The Long Walk Home

Today we continue our devotion from the book “Time with God for Fathers by Jack Countryman.” Our focus is going to be on keeping joy throughout our walk and living for God’s ambition during that walk.

The Long Walk Home

1 Peter 1:8-9

“Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith – the salvation of your soul.”

The Christian life is intended to be both taken seriously and full of joy. It takes a spirit-filled, conscious effort to contemplate our faith in a way that brings a noticeable positive impact in our lives.

But how could we not be joyful knowing the creator of everything, knows, cares for and loves every single one of us?

As you go through this life, walk in step with the one who loves you dearly, and do your best to let that love show.

Looking out for Number Two

Philippians 2:3-4

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interest, but also for the interest of others.”

The whole idea behind this verse is living for something other than ourselves. Specifically, God and his ambitions. Especially in today’s culture, that is so hard to do. We want to live FOR US, our desire and ambition are often the driving for behind how we live.

God wants to live through us. So our thoughts and actions should be centered around that concept. That might mean reaching out to someone who makes us uncomfortable or giving up something we know isn’t good for us. First and for most, we are to help forward the kingdom.

It’s important to note though, that this verse also does encourage self-care and ambition when it says “Let each of you look out not only for your own self-interest…”

NOT ONLY is the key phrase there. God doesn’t want us to neglect ourselves. Often, you’ll find that what God wants for your life is also beneficial to you. Therefore, by focusing on God’s interest, you indirectly satisfy your own.

Attitude of Gratitude

This picture says it all…

We are so thrilled to have been a part of this year’s planning and production of the Dan Emmett Music and Arts Festival.  This picture represents a small part of our DEMAF family, led by (moving right from me) co-director Trina Trainor (pink hat), Marcy, Hunter, co-director Joe Bell, Rachel, treasurer Heather Brayshaw and Emily.

It’s just another example of how things are better when we do them together!

Thank you to our community for coming to the Festival – after all, it’s for YOU!

Today’s Mystery Monday question was: If you could be a doctor for a day, what are the top two things you would look most forward to?

1- getting a paycheck
2- helping people
3- operating
4- going golfing
5- giving shots
6- vacation

Congratulations to Dan from Howard who wins the $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley.

From the Inside Out

Today, we continue our devotions from the book “Time with God for Fathers” by Jack Countryman, discussing how we strive to live from the inside out.

2 Corinthians 4:16 says:

“Therefore, we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, the inward man is being renewed day by day.” (NIV)

So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.” (The Message)

Living for God from the inside out begins with a change of heart; and your decision to be a different person.

The way you walk, talk, and interact with your family and friends will change as you are called to reflect Jesus Christ in every area of your life.

When you become a Christian, you assume a personal responsibility to live for Christ. Although your sins have been forgiven through Christ’s sacrifice, you are still responsible for your behavior.

What you do on this Earth matters. You are free in Christ, but you are also a bondservant of Christ. Pleasing God is to be your first priority. As a Christian father, who you are in Christ will be reflected in your children as they observe the way you live…from the inside out.
