Who Knew Wednesday: Sanity -Saving Kid Tips – Temper Tantrum solved?

Today Todd and I said “who knew?” quite a lot! We had a super fun topic, which was chapter 15 in our Who Know? book, was “Sanity saving kid Tips”!

Where are the tips we shared today!

Numb the “Ick” of Taking Medicine
Nothing’s worse than having to give a sick child medicine he or she can’t stand the taste of. To make things a little easier, have him or her suck on a popsicle for a few minutes before taking the medicine. The popsicle will not only act as an incentive, it will also numb his or her taste buds making the medicine easier to swallow.

 Cheap childproofing
Use a shower curtain ring to keep a toddler out of your cabinets. Just run the ring through the two handles that are closed by and latch.

Make your kids stand out
If you know you’re going to a crowded place, make sure to dress your children and bright colors so you can easily spot them. To make them stick out even more, buy each kid a cheap helium balloon and tie it around the wrist. Kids love balloons, and so will you when you realize you can see a mile away in the mall.

 Make your swing set safer
You’ve just bought your kids a new swing set, and you’re peering out the window just waiting for one of them to fall off. Fear no more! Place carpet remnants or free carpet samples from a local store underneath the swings for extra padding. They’ll kill the grass underneath, but your kids would have done that anyway.

 Make ripping off Band-Aid painless
Before removing a bandage from your child’s skin, douse the area with baby oil. The baby oil will soak into the bandage and make it easier to remove without hurting him or her.

 Make slides more fun
If your kids have tired of that expensive playground set you bought them, make the slide even more fun by giving them each a large piece of wax paper. If they sit on the paper as they are going down the slide, they’ll move much faster and they’ll never call it born again (or at least not for a few weeks.)

 Get pen marks off skin
If you know any children, you know they like to get marker and pen all over their hands. The fastest way to get them ready for company is to use green or black tea bags. You use the actual wet bag itself to dab at the stains once you’re done brewing a cup with it and it has cooled down.

 Temper Tantrum solved?
When taking your kids on a trip always bring along a bottle of bubbles. If and when the tantrum hits, take out the bubbles and start blowing. This distracts them enough so that they calm down and they can actually listen to what you’re saying. Then hand over the bottle and let them help. Not only is this rewarding them for a stoping crying, but it also allows the child to take a deep breath and become even more relaxed.

 Stop the Popsicle drips
Keep messy melting popsicles from getting all over your kid’s hands and the floor, by poking the stick end of the popsicle through a coffee filter or a cupcake liner before you hand it over. The filter or cupcake liner will soak up the drips.

Popcorn, Without the dishes
If you’re serving popcorn to the kids but don’t want to wash a bunch of bowls afterward, considering using a coffee filter as a disposable Bowl instead of a paper bowl, because it uses less paper and is cheaper!

 Kids shoelaces coming untied?
If you are children shoelaces are often coming untied you maybe tying them wrong. This is because we were taught to tie your shoes in a way that’s easy for our hands but it may not be tying a nice square knot.  Here’s a video on how to tie them the right way:  For Kids

Here is the Questions of the day:

In a survey by The Early Childhood Investment corporation, parents cited simply being with their children as the best part about parenting, and discipline as the worst part of parenting.

What is your favorite part about interacting with your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews or any of the children you interact with? Let us know below!

Mystery Monday: There is no way this weighs 1,000 pounds!

Starting out a dreary Monday with some Monday Motivation to drive the dreary away, along with a chance to win with our Mystery Monday mystery question!

I shared about hope in a world where we are bombarded by messages. But in the midst of “You need” “You should” and “You will” , God says that you are not alone, you are enough, you are loved, you are forgiven and there is a hope beyond this broken world.
Hebrews 6:19 says “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. “

Joe shared a devotional about recognizing God’s presence and touch in the midst of things that scare you from Our Daily Bread. You can read the whole devotional HERE.

Praise Thursday: The two last “Devotionals For Leaders”!

Today Todd and I had a melancholily day, as we did the last two devotionals from “Time with God for Fathers” by Jack Countryman, but as we like to call it “Time with God for Leaders”.

Here are the last two devotionals we did today:

A father’s reward comes in many different ways

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your ways to the Lord, trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass.” – Psalms 37 4-5

God wants more than anything else to give you the desires of your heart. You belong to him, and his love is forever. When you choose to trust him, he calls you to live in such a way as to honor him and to do good to others so that they might see goodness through you. Your close fellowship with God is the key to a deep commitment to live for Him in every area of your life, in turn, wants to bless you. When you delight yourself in the Lord, he places in your heart his desires for you so that you might glorify him in all that you do.

True Prosperity is the receipt of God’s reward

“This book of the Law must not leave your mouth. Think about it day and night, so you may be careful to do all that is written in it. Then all will go well with you. You will receive many good things.” – Joshua 1:8

When we do God’s Will and God’s way and with God’s help, no one or nothing stands in the way of our success. The key is the presence of the Lord. God commanded Joshua to meditate on his word day and night, and he’s asking us to do the same today. He wants every leader to be successful and prosperous and his work and with his family. Yet, He wants you to remember that your true treasure will accumulate in heaven. God’s word is your Guide to Life. When you discover his wisdom and apply it to your life, everything changes. Your focus, priorities, emotions, and heart become god-centered. When this occurs, you and your family will be so very blessed, and in whatever you choose to do, you will receive God’s we’re just reward of Peace, guidance Cana salvation, and an eternity spent with him.

Who Knew Wednesday: Going back to our roots – with Life Hacks!

Today Todd and I got back to the roots of Who Knew Wednesday! The reason we started Who Knew Wednesday is because we found some pretty awesome books called “Who Knew? 10,001 East Solutions to Everyday Problems” and “More Who Knew? Thousands of Money-Saving Secrets for Cooking, Cleaning and all-around Your Home”, both by Bruce Lubin and Jeanne Bossolina-Lubin!

We are excited to announce that our Valentine’s Day Banquet tickets are officially on sale! Click HERE to find out more!

Today we decided to focus on Chapter 16 from the first Who Knew? book about Car hacks! Here are the hacks we shared:

  • Make the most of that expensive gas!
    • Keep your tires inflated. It’s much harder for your engine to get your car to move when your tires are even a little bit flat. Invest in a gauge and make sure to keep them as inflated as possible without over-inflating.
    • Change your oil regularly. As oil ages, it’s thicker and harder to push through the engine, causing more energy to be used. By changing your oil regularly you’ll make sure you get the best fuel economy possible.
    • Roll up your windows on the highway. Having the wind streaming through your hair might be fun, but it increases drag on the car and make it take more energy to run. In this case, it’s actually usually cheaper to run the AC.
    • Other quick tips to save gas:  Be smart with the route you pick, stay at or under the speed limit, remove any excess weight in your car and try to carpool as much as possible!
  • Who knew Classic Tip: if your windshield wipers are smearing your windshield while they work, wipe the blades with rubbing alcohol.

  • Keep your car doors from freezing: it’s hard enough to have to dig out your driveway and scrape off your car after a snowstorm. Save yourself the trouble of worrying about car doors freezing shut by spraying WD-40 in the lining. Once at the beginning of winter should do it!

  • Condition Your Car: You might think we are crazy, but applying conditioner, leaving for 5 minutes, and then rinsing it off will give your car a just-waxed shine. As an added bonus, it will more effectively repel water!

  • For supple leather: if your car has leather seats, regularly apply a thin layer of baby oil to the leather and let it dry. This will prevent your seats from drying out and cracking.

  •  Removing bumper stickers: Get those old bumper stickers off and bring your car up to date. Rub cold cream on the stickers and wait 10 minutes. Say goodbye and peel the bumper sticker right off.

  •  Stop ice before it starts: To keep your car door locks safe from ice during the cold winter months place a refrigerator magnet of the lock you can even take an old magnet (that 2008 calendar from the local realtor, perhaps) and cut it into pieces that fit perfectly.

  •  It pays to restart your engine: If you are waiting for longer than 30 seconds in your car, turn off the engine. Use more fuel idling after 30 seconds then you use to restart your car.
  • Impromptu shovel: Stuck in the mud, sand or snow with no way to dig yourself out? A shovel may be closer than you think. Just detach your hubcap and use that instead!

  •  Bonus tip of the day:

    • Take two aspirin for yourself, then to for your car: if your car battery has died and you don’t have jumper cables, don’t get a headache just yet. First, try dropping a couple of aspirin tablets into the battery the acid in the aspirin can provide it with just enough to charge get you to the nearest service station.

  • Question of the Day:
    •  According to insurance agencies, green and yellow cars are the least likely to get in a car accident, and red and black cars are the most likely. Why do you think this is? Let us know below in the comments section!

Road trips, band changes and Batmobiles!

Today for Artist Newsday, Todd shared stories about:

I Am They‘s new member – read the story here from NewReleaseToday.com

Rock the Universe is this weekend – read more here from JesusFreakHideout.com

Thought I’d also share a picture of YES, the Batmobile golf cart we discussed at the beginning of the show!  One of our show opens features the old 1966 Batman theme, so we ended up on this topic for a few minutes. This creation is part of an excellent (and funny at times) gallery from HotCars.com about Batmobiles people built.

I wanna sing with all my heart a lifelong song,
even if some notes come out right and some come out wrong.

The song is “Live It Well” by Switchfoot – congratulations to Cheyenne from Mount Vernon who wins the $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley.
