Our Mystery Monday question today was as follows: Name something around the house that your family members use the last of and don’t replace.
The answers?
1. Toilet Paper (46)
2. Milk (33)
3. Kleenex/tissues (7)
4. Toothpaste (7)
5. Soap (5)

Congrats to our winner, Karen from Mount Vernon.

This weekend was also International Coffee Day! You already know that we celebrated here at WNZR! We shared with you some fun facts about this magic elixir.

Did you know that coffee is the second most traded commodity on earth?
Yep! There are approximately 25 million farmers in over 50 countries involved in producing coffee. Coffee is second only to oil.
Did you also know Beethoven was kind of a jerk about his coffee?
Unfortunately! When he drank his coffee, he was extremely particular about its preparation. He insisted that each cup he consumed be made with exactly 60 beans.

Want more fun facts? Check out Good Housekeeping and Mental Floss‘s articles filled with some more interesting tidbits on coffee!

Of course, it isn’t the Afternoon Drive celebrating a national holiday without some recipes to go along with it. Here are some recipes to help you do this day right! Pick one recipe from each category to make your perfect Coffee Day meal!

Let’s Pray: Prayers for Guidance and Direction

Today, we continue sharing devotionals from the book Let’s Pray: Talking to God with the Words of the Bible, by Dr. James Banks, who serves as a pastor at Peace Church in Durham, North Carolina and is a regular writer for Our Daily Bread. We finished up our chapter from Let’s Pray on Prayers for Guidance and Direction today.

The temptation we often face is to run our own lives and then ask God to bless us. What God wants from us is very different. Oswald Chambers observes, “If we could see the floor of God’s immediate presence, we would find it strewn with the ‘toys’ of God’s children who have said, “This is broken. I can’t play with it anymore, please give me another present.” Only one in a thousand sits down in the midst of it all and says “I will watch my Father mend this”.

David prayed “O Lord, I give my life to you… show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you”. The Bible’s prayers for guidance and direction all have dependence as their starting point. In every instance, God matters more than what is asked, even though the request may be urgent.

Our Shepherd wants us near Him, especially when we don’t know which road to take. These are prayers to help us draw close…

1. Show me the right path

“O Lord, I give my life to you. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”

2. Send your light to guide me
“Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live. There I will go to the altar of God, to God – the source of all my joy. I will praise you with my harp, O God, my God.” (Psalm 43:3-4)

3. Guide my steps by your word
“Your laws are wonderful. No wonder I obey them! The teaching of Your word gives light, so even the simple can understand. I pant with expectation, longing for your commands. Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name. Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. Ransom me from the oppression of evil people; then I can obey your commandments. Look upon me with love, teach me your decrees. Rivers of tears gush from my eyes because people disobey your instructions.” (Psalm 119:129-136)

Prayer starters…
Show me your presence, Lord – From Exodus 33:18
Show me to how to have more faith – From Luke 17:5
What should I do? – From Acts 22:10

Welcome in to another jam packed Afternoon Drive!
Today on the show, we gave you three things…

2. Uplifting News and
3. Chances to win!

Let’s break it down, shall we?

Our friend Austin French dropped his ‘Wide Open‘ album last week!
Stars Go Dim also dropped an album last week, it’s called their ‘Better’ EP. It includes 7 songs, featuring ‘Heaven on Earth”.

Speaking of our friends from Stars Go Dim, they’re going on tour with the ever-amazing Francesca Battistelli!
It’s called  “The Breakup Tour” and you can read more about dates, times, places, and tickets here!
Danny Gokey, Tauren Wells and Riley Clemmons are also on the road for their “A Hope Encounter” tour. Read more about their tour stops here!

Secondly, Uplifting News…
We had the opportunity to hear from the Chaplain of the Cincinnati Bengals, LaMorris Crawford, in Chapel on Monday. It was an incredible service that really slapped us across the face with a 2×4. It was a CONVICTING service, but also an uplifting one.
If you would like to be encouraged, I reccomend you watch the service! It’s now on-demand, so you can do so! Click here and it will take you right to the service!

A couple short take-aways from LaMorris that we wanted to share with you…
– You were created on purpose, for a purpose.
– Jesus bought you with a price.

Third and finally, we gave you chances to win with Game Time Tuesday!
Our games today? Song Poetry and Name That Tune!
The Song Poetry lyrics we picked today were from an artist on tour…
and the song is also the name of the tour this artist is on right now…

“Sick and tired of being sick and tired
Had as much of you as I can take
I’m so done, so over being afraid.”

None other than Francesca Battistelli! That’s her latest called “The Breakup Song”!
A great message from that one!
Congrats to our winner, Sandy from Mt. Vernon!

For Name That Tune, we played from another artist that’s on tour as well!
Our song clip was from Riley Clemmons, and it was her song, “Broken Prayers”.
Congratulations to

Mystery Monday: Mystery Box Edition!

Today, Malisa, Joe and I gave you a chance to win with our mystery box contest! The way that these contests work are simple. One of us, today it was me, hide an item in the mystery box. We then use as many senses as possible, besides sight, and in this case, we didn’t use the sense of taste either.

We started with the hearing test.

Malisa shook the box and then asked these two questions:

Is this a common household item? Yes!

Where would this item be kept?  The kitchen.

Then we did touch test. Joe asked:

“Does this item have multiple sents? “Yes.’

“Is it used for cleaning?”  ‘Yep!’

After the touch test, we had Dan from Howard guess our Mystery Monday item! It was dish soap! He won the $5 Gift Card from Troyers of Apple Valley.

Let’s Pray – Guidance and Directon

Today, we continue sharing devotionals from the book Let’s Pray: Talking to God with the Words of the Bible, by Dr. James Banks, who serves as a pastor at Peace Church in Durham, North Carolina and is a regular writer for Our Daily Bread.

In this short book, we are reminded that the prayers of the Bible are an amazing gift from God and they have so much to teach us.

Scripture tells of God guiding His people through all kinds of circumstances. He went ahead of Israel through the wilderness, leading them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, as we read in Exodus 13:21. He sent angels to lead Lot and his family out of Sodom, which we find in Genesis 19:16, and led Peter out of prison, as we see in Acts 12:7.

Both David and Isaiah describe God affectionately in Psalm 23 as a shepherd and Micah prophesied about Jesus saying “He will stand to lead his flock with the Lord’s strength.” The Bible’s message is comforting and clear. Its message is this: even though God knows every detail of our lives, our heavenly Father still cares deeply about the intimated details of our lives.

With all the instances of God leading in scripture, the prayers for guidance and direction are relatively few. Haddon Robinson writes, “It’s surprising to note that nowhere in the Old Testament, the teachings of Jesus, or the New Testament epistles do we see any description of a step-by-step process by which we can determine God’s will”. There is a reason for this.

God’s guidance stems from our relationship with Him. Our shepherd wants to feed us, carry us in his arms, hold us close to His heart, and gently lead us. We find that in Isaiah 40:11. We are told through 1st Thessalonians 5:17 that we should pray continually because it is impossible to discern God’s leading in our lives without prayer.
As with prayers about everyday needs, the Bible’s prayers for guidance and direction are relational prayers. Relational prayer doesn’t just seek God’s will – it seeks His face as well. Relational prayer puts us in a place where the Lord can help us discover His leading and response with deeper obedience and love.

God reminded His people through Isaiah, “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength” and we find that in Isaiah 30:15. Fresh strength flows into us as we pray, fast, and wait before Him in His word.

Thanks for listening!

Who Knew Wednesday!

Today Todd and I walked about something that is very close to our hearts, and that is missions. Specifically, we shared with you some stories of people Todd and I know that are taking the word of God to places that don’t have a good understanding of our faith.

First, we talked about a man that my family is friends with. He gave up everything to do what God called him to. He moved across seas, meet his wife and they now share the word of God in a place where the word of God isn’t normally shared.

Then we shared with you about the ministry of Todd’s friends and what they are doing where God has called them to be, which is in a place that is very hostile to Christians. Todd shared about how brave these people are. He also shared about how these people have looked at mountains and told them to move and they did.

Todd and I both as asked that you pray for these people, who are being the hands and feet of God, and any other missionaries you may know.

We also gave away some Sonfest tickets with our Sonfest trivia!
