The Barriers to our Building Project

Jess beach hairToday we continued our Praise Thursday discussions on our Lifeline 2016 theme, “Build Your Kingdom Here.”

Jess sent me this picture of her on the beach in North Carolina trying to take a picture, but the wind just wouldn’t cooperate!  It reminded me that sometimes, there are lots of potential barriers to our projects.  They can be physical or mental, even natural like in this picture.

Our challenge this year for Lifeline is to allow ‘His construction crew’ to start a kingdom project in us…and we know that the process of allowing Jesus to have control and reign in our hearts can sometimes be painful.  The web blog ‘Taking it Deeper’ by Sterling Tarrant compares the process to stepping on a toy building block in the middle of the night…the pain to your bare foot is real. Sometimes our effort to remove the barriers to the throne of our heart (see Ephesians 4: 25-32 for ideas of barriers) can be painfully real.

In the end, the pain we experience in the process of building pales in comparison to the joy in seeing His kingdom take root in our lives and the lives of others.  The song reminds us that ‘the hurt, the sick (and) the poor’ will be at peace.

Jess continues her week long road trip to North Carolina and Faith is with the MVNU service team in Belize.  I know both of them would certainly appreciate your prayers for traveling safety.

Our word of the day is CAMARADERIE (com-ROD-uh-ree), a noun that means a spirit of friendly good fellowship.

Who Knew? This one’s for us, gentlemen.

A couple weeks ago, The Morning Thing shared 21 lost gentleman traditions that still apply today. We re-shared that list for Who Knew Wednesday? today.

Note: This is an article about being a gentleman: honor, respect, courtesy, and manners. It’s for men, by a man.

We hope that chivalry is NOT dead. Click HERE to see the list.
It is our hope that men, young and old, will adopt some of these traditions in 2016.

Our Word of the Day is timely: ETIQUETTE, which is a noun meaning…the rules indicating the proper and polite way to behave.

March 1st! Super Tuesday?  Call it Rainy Tuesday here in Knox County…but it’s not getting us down. We have a new partner on board for the All Request Drive Home – Troyer’s of Apple Valley. You can click their name to find out more about their business. Thanks to Troyer’s for supporting WNZR and the Afternoon Drive!

We had fun today giving out prizes, including a Hillsong CD and a $5 gift card to Troyer’s for our music games. Song Poetry today was from ‘Hanging On’ by Britt Nicole, while Name That Tune’s :10 clip was ‘All Things Possible’ by Mark Schultz.

I’m flying solo this week as the ladies enjoy time off for spring break.  Here’s more from Jess and her adventures…

Monday was day 2 of my spring break road trip – go check out yesterday’s blog to read all about day 1! We spent pretty much the whole day exploring Asheville, North Carolina. We started our day off with some of the best doughnuts I’ve ever had, including a white chocolate raspberry one that was AMAZING, at Vortex Doughnuts. Then, we headed over to the Asheville arts district and found an entire graffiti village, which we spent about an hour just walking through and taking tons of photos and videos. Next, we spent a few hours just walking around downtown, checking out some cool local shops and taking fun pictures. After a very long day in Asheville, we drove a little over 2 hours to get to Charlotte where we’re staying for the night. Tomorrow, we’re headed off to Wilmington to check out some filming locations from one of our favorite shows, One Tree Hill!

Please continue to pray for Faith as she and a group of MVNU students work in Belize!

Tomorrow we’re talking about the lost art of being a gentleman…don’t miss it!

Word of the Day today is appropriate for Super Tuesday – PUNDIT, a noun meaning a person who knows a lot about a particular subject and who expresses ideas and opinions about that subject publicly (such as by speaking on television and radio shows).

Leap Day? Spring Break?

So this February 29th is a one-of-a-kind day, in more ways than one…

MVNU is on its new academic calendar, so spring break is a bit early this year and is two weeks, allowing trips that used to happen in January to happen now. Faith is overseas working on a mission trip in Belize (see last Wednesday’s post). Jessica and a couple friends are taking a road trip down to the Carolinas…here’s a little bit more about it from her:

Since it is spring break at MVNU, I get to take a week off of the show to do some traveling! Myself, along with Annabelle Harray (WNZR’s production director), and our friend April, are road tripping all over the place this week. Today (Sunday) we got up and departed Mount Vernon just after 6am and headed to the Smokey Mountains. After several hours of driving, a pit stop for lunch in a random Kentucky park, and sitting in traffic on the side of a mountain for over an hour, we finally made it to Gatlinburg, Tennessee around 3:30 pm. We rode on an awesome alpine coaster, which is like a little personal roller coaster you control that takes you on a scenic ride throughout the outskirts of the Smokey Mountains. We also hiked for a little bit in the National Park and got to see a really cool waterfall and some amazing views of the mountains. It was really awesome to be able to spend a few hours in nature, just taking in God’s beautiful creation. Up next – Asheville, North Carolina!

The Mystery Monday question asked what the Top 10 comfort foods were in a recent Harris poll.  I gave you #1 – pizza, and #10 Mexican food…Michelle called in to guess three more, and got #2 – chocolate, #3 – ice cream, and #8 popcorn.

Today’s Word of the Day is LEXICAL, an adjective meaning: of or relating to words or the vocabulary of a language as distinguished from its grammar and construction.

NZ Top 10

Our crew is back from NRB…Jessica stopped in and told us all about the trip to Nashville! She and Alex Sneed placed second for the Cooking with Chef Paul video project from 2014 Food For the Hungry. We are so proud of her and I am so glad to have Joe and Jess back safely! They were able to listen to great speakers and saw the JJ Weeks Band in concert! Jess also brushed shoulders with Matt Maher.

Focused on the Building

lifeline banner-01Lifeline 2016’s theme is Build Your Kingdom Here, based on the song by Rend Collective. Today for Praise Thursday we continued talking about the meaning behind the song and why we chose it for Lifeline.  Our theme verse is Luke 17:20-21.

The website Taking it Deeper had a recent post about the song where they focused on the word build and asked us to think about the verb ‘building.’

“When it comes to the Church, most of us equate it to a structure on a street corner.
Instead try thinking of a church as something that is being built in the hearts of millions of people around the globe. The church is the people, not the building. Is it being built in your heart everyday? Here are ways you can tell: Are you becoming more caring toward people? Meeting their needs? Praying for them? Are you building up more and more compassion in your life? Putting others first?”

How can we build his kingdom in our hearts? That is where it has to start.  We want to focus on this theme this year.  We have an amazing opportunity to build God’s kingdom with the airwaves.  WNZR is committed to reaching people with a positive message of grace and hope.  Help us to be kingdom workers by being the hands and feet of God.

Who Knew Wednesday 2/24

Spring Break is right around the corner for MVNU which means spring break trips!  This year I am going to Belize! Belize is a small country in Central America.  It is between the Caribbean Sea and dense jungle.  There are many vacation spots and amazing natural wonders.  The Mayan ruins are also a big attraction.  However, I’m not going to be enjoying the scenery; instead I will be going to a small school and working there.

I am going to Belize with a team of MVNU students.  We are going to be setting the foundation for two classrooms, then other teams will slowly piece the classrooms together. If you would like more information about how MVNU is involved in Belize, check out mvnu.edu.

Joe goes ON the road to Nashville!
