Going Barefoot and Being Grateful

On today’s show, we celebrated Praise Thursday by talking about bare feet and gratitude, and what exactly those two things have to do with each other.

Today’s is “One Day Without Shoes Day”, a day created by TOMS Shoes which encourages us to go barefoot in order to raise awareness for impoverished people around the world who do not have shoes, while simultaneously forcing us to be grateful for the small, simple things we have that we may not even realize are blessings.

We specifically talked about being grateful to be able to serve others, being grateful in all circumstances, and having an attitude of gratitude. You can read more about that in Colossians 3:15-17 and Philippians 4:6-7.

Our word of the day was opprobrium, a noun which means a public disgrace or vicious conduct.

We also talked about all the exciting stuff going on with Hillsong UNITED – they won Top Christian Artist at Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards, their new album EMPIRES releases next Tuesday, and they have a movie, Hillsong: Let Hope Rise, that will release at the end of September. You can tune in next Tuesday to hear more about the album, plus we’ll replay Joe’s discussion with the producer of the film, Jonathan Bock.

Don’t forget to come out this weekend as we kick off our Summer 2015 season of On The Road With Big Blue at the Utica Sertoma Ice Cream Festival and Mount Vernon’s Memorial Day Parade! You can find out more at wnzr.fm.

Have a great end of the week, and thanks for listening!

We Scream for Ice Scream on Who Knew Wednesday!

Today’s Afternoon Drive was full of a very sweet topic- ICE CREAM!

We shared some fun facts about ice cream that we found over at icecream.com and we also took their quiz to find out which ice cream flavor matched our personality! Joe’s result was mint and I got vanilla. You can take the quiz here!

And speaking of ice cream, make sure you come out to the 41st annual Utica Sertoma Ice Cream Festival! Our Big Blue Crew will be in the parade, which starts at 11 am and travels throughout the streets of downtown Utica. We’ll also be at the festival from 2 pm until 5 pm, so make sure you stop by to see us, pick up some free stuff, and register to win some gift certificates for FREE Velvet Ice Cream!

Also, our word of the day was cozen, which means to deceive or win over through artful coaxing.

Have a great rest of your week and come visit us this weekend as we kick off our summer 2015 season of On The Road with Big Blue!

May Ray Day

On today’s show, we celebrated May Ray Day – a day where you are encouraged to get outside and soak up the May sunshine! Make sure you get out and enjoy the May rays later if you haven’t already.

Our word of the day was dauntless, which you may recognize from the popular Divergent novel and film franchise. It’s an adjective which means resolute in the face of danger or difficulty, or fearless.

Joe shared a story about an adorable, two-week-old orphaned moose, Ojibwe, who was recently rescued and is now living at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. You can check out the full story (and see the cute pictures) here.

We also had a Buzzword stumper with the word old.

Make sure you come visit the Big Blue Crew at the Utica Ice Cream Festival and Parade THIS Saturday, May 23 and see us in the Mount Vernon Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25.

Have a fantastic Tuesday and thanks for listening!

Mystery Monday

We kicked off the week with a Mystery Monday question about rules: 57% of people said in a recent survey that they would NEVER break this rule. Sally from Mount Vernon was our first caller and correctly guessed that the answer was using the express checkout with more than 10 items.

Our word of the day was gadabout, a “social butterfly” who goes from place to place for different social activities. You can read more about that here.

We also talked about On The Road with Big Blue, which will kick off this weekend for Summer 2015. We’ll be at the Utica Ice Cream Festival and Parade this Saturday, May 23, and then we’ll be in the Mount Vernon Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25. You can head over to wnzr.fm for more information on both of those events.

Have a great week and come see our Big Blue Crew in action this weekend!

Who Knew Gardens Could Be So Small?

Today we talked about how you can use rubbermaid bins to plant small flowers and herbs. Tomatoes are also simple to grown out of a hanging pot on your porch. You can really utilize your window space by planting small things in the window inside or out!

We went live from Indiana with MVNU’s SID Kirk McDonnell who updated us on the MVNU Cougar Baseball team as they head into their Championship game and then on to Nationals! Go Cougs!

Blanca recently left Group 1 Crew after a successful run of around seven years…you can find out more about her and her new adventure here.

We also want to encourage moms, daughters and grandmas to join us for MOM’S NIGHT OUT this Friday in MVNU’s Foster Hall.  We’ll be showing the movie FINDING NORMAL.  Find out more here.

Our Word of the Day was REBARBATIVE – it is an adjective meaning something unattractive or objectionable.

Thanks for listening!
