Devotionals and Dr. Seuss!

It’s Praise Thursday on the Afternoon Drive, and Dylan and Judah talked about Lifeline 2023, praises and Seussical Jr. The duo talked about their experiences from Lifeline 2022 and what the special event means to them. Dylan and Judah also shared devotionals for Praise Thursday.

The Afternoon Drive Co-Hosts talked about Casting Crowns coming to the Ohio State Fair this summer and gave details about the date and location. They also gave away Seussical Jr tickets during their trivia game.

Judah’s devotional from Our Daily Bread is titled: “This Love Is Real”. You Can find the link to his devotional here.

Phil Wickham’s First Grammy Nomination

Today on the Afternoon Drive we end the show at 4:45 as we get ready for the MVNU women’s basketball game against Bethel University. Pre-game will starts at 4:45pm and the game will start at 5:00pm!

Emma shared some news about how Phil Wickham has been nominated for his first Grammy Award. He was nominated for his song “Hymn of Heaven” was nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song!

Last Day for Totally Tasty Tom Turkey Registration!

To kick off Praise Thursday Emma shares her devotional from “Wellbeing” day 3. Sharing that we have very little control over our emotions or our environment. That when we worry it’s our brain’s way to gain control when there is none. “A healthy mind doesn’t try to control its situation, a healthy mind accepts that sometimes life will bring hard circumstances.”

Jonathon then continues with his devotional from Our Daily Bread titled “A Heavenly Reunion.” He talked about when we die God promises a heavenly reunion that can comfort us when we are grieving the loss of a loved one who trusted Jesus. Also our promised future with Jesus gives us hope when facing our own immortality, until we are called home or Jesus comes back.

Today is the last day to be registered for the Totally Tasty Tom Turkey Hunt! Congrats to Jana and Jennifer from Mount Vernon they are registered for the Totally Tasty Tom Turkey Hunt. There is still only ONE chance for you to get registered, TONIGHT at 8 with Ben Alexander.

Behold! New Music, New Artists, New Opportunities!

Today, Emma and I shared about some artists in the news this week, and we also shared some new Christmas songs that were added to our playlist last weekend!

Congratulations to Kirk Franklin, who is currently on tour with Maverick City Music, as he will participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade! You can read more about it HERE

Also in the news is Colton Dixon. Well…kind of. His wife is launching her solo career in the music industry! Read about it HERE

Congrats to Cheryl from Danville and Jeff from Mount Vernon as they are now registered for the Totally Tasty Tom Turkey Hunt! Two New Albums!

Totally Tasty Tom Turkey registrations start now and ends Thursday November 17th! Congrats to Phyllis from Danville and Monica from Gambier and they are registered for their chance to win one of five turkeys from Smithhisler Meats of Mount Vernon. WNZR allows one registration per person per day. Anyone winning within the last 30 days is eligible for this contest!

It’s Artist News Day and Jonathon shared that Hope Darst has released new music! “If The Lord Builds The House” is her seven-song project and it is out today!

Emma continued Artist News Day that Tasha Layton is releasing a Christmas album this Friday, November 11th called This is Christmas. The 10-track was produced by Layton’s husband Keith Everette Smith. The album will feature four original Christmas songs and six classic Christmas songs like; “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” and “Somewhere In My Memory,” from the 1990 blockbuster movie Home Alone. Layton shared “the central theme of this project is comfort and joy,”

It’s Game Time Tuesday with song poetry! Congrats to Courtney from Fredericktown and she wins a Casting Crowns CD. The correct answer from our song poetry was “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe. We also talked about how your kids can get involved in the Knox County Food for the Hungry Elementary School Drive. This years drive has been planned and is underway with the help of Psi Iota Xi Sorority. All the donations benefit the 41st annual Food for the Hungry Drive. Classrooms from Mount Vernon, Centerburg, Danville, East Knox, and Fredericktown Elementary Schools will join in the Sorority’s collection efforts. Donations may be made from Monday, November 14th through Friday, November 18th. Cash and Checks that are made out to Food for the Hungry are welcome!

Albums and Tours

Emma and Jonathon kicked off the show by sharing that the Afternoon Drive would end a bit early today, as the MVNU Men’s Basketball team will be hosting University of Northwestern Ohio in Ariel Arena tonight at 7pm. You can hear the live action here on 90.9FM and wnzr.fm. You can also see the live action on wnzr.tv. Don’t forget to tune in during half-time for Cougar Conversation as we sat with Morgan Forney from the MVNU Women’s Cross Country Team!

Jonathon kicked off Artist New Day with the announcement that MercyMe has released a new album. This is their 11th studio album called Always Only Jesus. They will also be rapping up their fall tour dates, they’ll be on the road with Chris Tomlin for their Chris Tomlin X MercyMe: A Winter Tour tour this December 1st-13th. Also, big news for MercyMe is that their hit “I Can Only Imagine” has just received 5x RIAA Platinum Certification. Lead vocalist Bar Millard says, “when it released over 20 years ago, we never knew the impact it would have. We are just so grateful we have the opportunity to still make music that we hope will draw people ultimately closer to Jesus.

Emma then continued Artist News with for King & Country announced that their spring tour will be part 2 of the What Are We Waiting For? Tour. They will be on tour starting on March 25th-May 31st, and they will be in Columbus on April 7th for that tour. Pre-sale tickets are available now! For King & Country will also be in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, December 4th for their A Drummer Boy Christmas Tour.

Apples and Bread!

We started the show with the new total from the Starting Point Family Day and 5K event that was last Saturday October 1st. The current total is at $36,440 with $1,560 to go to reach their goal of $38,000. If you would like to donate to help reach this goal just click on this link and click donate.

Johnathon shared a devotional from “Our Daily Bread” titled Lego Lessons. In this devotional told the story of the creator of Legos Ole Kirk Christiansen. That it took Christiansen years until Legos were finally sold in stores. That with perseverance in challenges of work we can strive to grow not only in our work but also in our faith.

Emma then shared day five ofWhile We Wait.” The author of day 5 Liz Sarno wrote about her trip to NYC and all of the delays that she went through on her trip. That because of these delays we become agitated and frustrated, but we have no clue what amazing things God has for us in those delays. That when we are patient and embrace the waiting it can refine us and bring us to a place of wholeness.

Big Names in the News

On the road with Big Blue! Join WNZR for a special celebration of our 36th Anniversary this Saturday, October 1st. Join us at the Knox Starting Point Family Day and 5K from 10am- noon. As well as, Memorial Park in Mount Vernon for the TAC (Teen Advisory Council). At both events the first 90 people to stop by Big Blue will get homemade buckeyes from The Least Of These Ministries.

Today Jonathon shared news from Cece Winans, one of our top artiest who is releasing a new book! The book is named after #1 song “Believe For It” and the book is all about passing love of Christ on to the next generation. The book will be released to the public on November 15th, but you can pre-order the book right now at this link!

Emma also shared about Lauren Daigle teasing about an upcoming album. This past weekend Daigle had a show in Las Vegas, she announced that her “Look Up Child era” is coming to a close. She then played an upcoming song called “Be Okay,” which is written about a 13-year-old girl who got a life-changing diagnosis. We will give an update once album date is released!

Game time! It was song poetry day during the Drive and congrats to Bonnie of Mount Vernon for winning a five dollar gift card to Round Hill Dairy. The song was Rise Up (Lazarus) by CAIN!

Beloved

Jonathon first shared about the 25th Anniversary of Third Day’s self-titled debut album, Provident Label Group/Sony Legacy will re-release the band’s debut album including live tracks that span the early Third Day years captured at various locations. Third Day 25th Anniversary will release on October 21st on all platforms. “Time flies when you’re having fun,” shares Third Day frontman Mac Powell. “Can’t believe the “bus album” Is over 25 years old now. I still get requests live for so many songs from that album and always love revisiting them!”

Emma shared about her experience at SonFest 2022. She shares that her home church’s youth group came up for the event and says, “its still so amazing to see kids that age worshipping God in a very pure way.” Don’t forget to check out WNZR’s Facebook page to check out some of the highlights from SonFest this year.

Then also in artist news, Emma shared about the release of children’s book based on Jordan Feliz’s hit song “Beloved” he partners with children’s book author Jes Woller and illustrator Hilary Griffith. The book titled “Beloved” tells a story about a little girl named Jolie and her journey trying to find out why she is beloved. Finding out that she is so beloved because she is a child of God.

Game Time! We first played song poetry and congrats to Ruth from Mount Vernon for winning two $5 gift cards to Round Hill Dairy. We then gave away tickets for this Saturday’s show of Shrek Jr. and congrats to Sandye from Mount Vernon for being caller number three.
