Congrats to Cheryl from Danville and Jeff from Mount Vernon as they are now registered for the Totally Tasty Tom Turkey Hunt! Don’t forget to be listening to Tom’s gobble every time you hear a live dj for your chance to get registered. Thanks to Smithhisler Meats of Mount Vernon we will be giving away 5 Turkeys and the winners will be announced at 7:30am this Friday, November 18th on the Morning Thing!

We did not have a winner this week for song poetry, but stay tuned next week for song poetry as we give away 2 CDs. Don’t forget to listen to the Afternoon Drive tomorrow for Who Knew Wednesday with Joe Rinehart and Dylan Elliott.

Two New Albums!

Totally Tasty Tom Turkey registrations start now and ends Thursday November 17th! Congrats to Phyllis from Danville and Monica from Gambier and they are registered for their chance to win one of five turkeys from Smithhisler Meats of Mount Vernon. WNZR allows one registration per person per day. Anyone winning within the last 30 days is eligible for this contest!

It’s Artist News Day and Jonathon shared that Hope Darst has released new music! “If The Lord Builds The House” is her seven-song project and it is out today!

Emma continued Artist News Day that Tasha Layton is releasing a Christmas album this Friday, November 11th called This is Christmas. The 10-track was produced by Layton’s husband Keith Everette Smith. The album will feature four original Christmas songs and six classic Christmas songs like; “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” and “Somewhere In My Memory,” from the 1990 blockbuster movie Home Alone. Layton shared “the central theme of this project is comfort and joy,”

It’s Game Time Tuesday with song poetry! Congrats to Courtney from Fredericktown and she wins a Casting Crowns CD. The correct answer from our song poetry was “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe. Stay tuned tomorrow on the Afternoon Drive with Joe Rinehart and Dylan Elliott for your chance to win a CeCe Winans CD.

We also talked about how your kids can get involved in the Knox County Food for the Hungry Elementary School Drive. This years drive has been planned and is underway with the help of Psi Iota Xi Sorority. All the donations benefit the 41st annual Food for the Hungry Drive. Classrooms from Mount Vernon, Centerburg, Danville, East Knox, and Fredericktown Elementary Schools will join in the Sorority’s collection efforts. Donations may be made from Monday, November 14th through Friday, November 18th. Cash and Checks that are made out to Food for the Hungry are welcome!

Getting to Know Red Rocks

For the first hour of today’s show we heard interviews with Kory Miller of Red Rocks Worship, one of the artists that will be at SonFest this year. Kory shared how excited the band is playing at SonFest this Saturday. He also shared with us how God has worked within the band and the exciting news that the band is recording a new album! If you miss the interviews you can listen on our Sound Cloud.

Emma shared day two of the devotional called While We Wait. Sharing the encouraging message that God is working in your waiting season. This devotional talks about the story of David, that he had to wait 20 years before he became King of Israel. We all have a purpose and a calling, which means we have to embrace the waiting.

Jonathon shared a devotional from Our Daily Bread titled God in the Details, making a connection between a family craving carrots and a God that is in every aspect of our lives. This devo also shares the story of Moses and his calling to free the Israelites from the hands of Egypt.

Game Time! We played name that tune and SonFest Trivia. Congrats to Jan of Howard for winning name that tune! The song was God Is on the Move by 7eventh Time Down. Congrats to Damon of Danville for winning today’s SonFest Trivia. He wins two tickets to SonFest!

Thanks for listening!

The Dog Star?

August First Friday is just around the corner and we are excited to be hosting the main event for this month – the “Dog Days of Summer” Dog Parade! First Friday will run from 6-9pm, but registration for the dog parade is on-site only in Downtown Mount Vernon from 6:30-7:15.

We have all heard the phrase “Dog Days of Summer”, but what does that actually MEAN?

Sure, this time of year is typically the hottest it gets, but that is not the origin of the phrase. This saying is actually derived from astrology and this time of year celebrates when Sirius – known as the “Dog Star” rises to its most noticeable point. So next time you are out stargazing, keep an eye out for the Sirius star because it’ll only be prominent until roughly August 11th.

You can read Scott Smith’s article that we referred to during the show here!

Who Am I?

  • I was born on this date in 1901 in New Orleans
  • I moved to Chicago to start my music career as a trumpet player in the late 20s
  • I eventually became one of the pioneers of scat singing and formed a big band named after myself in the 40s
  • Some of my biggest hits include “What a Wonderful World” and “Mack the Knife”
  • I died of a heart attack in 1971 at the age of 69

I am… Louis Armstrong!

Congratulations to Kathy of Mount Vernon for correctly guessing our trivia and winning a $5 gift card to Everlasting Cup!

Thanks for listening!
