summer concerts

Almost Friday…

Might as well rename Thursday this.

It’s Praise Thursday on The Afternoon Drive, and we had a ton of fun on the show today!

We shared encouragement to pick up your bible and get in the word again, because we need that encouragement just as much as you do!

We also gave away tickets to Tim Hawkins’ comedy routine March 22nd on the campus of MVNU! Congratulations to Doug Litteral for making me (Judah) laugh! He wins two VIP tickets to Hawkins’ 7pm show!

Marissa is going to see Tauren Wells this summer at the Ohio Sate Fair Summer Concert Series! She played Beat The Box Office and correctly named the track “Take It All Back” by Tauren!

This week’s track was another stumper. Call in next week for your chance to win TWO $5 Watts Restaurant Gift Card!

Thanks for listening!- Judah

Devotionals and Dr. Seuss!

It’s Praise Thursday on the Afternoon Drive, and Dylan and Judah talked about Lifeline 2023, praises and Seussical Jr. The duo talked about their experiences from Lifeline 2022 and what the special event means to them. Dylan and Judah also shared devotionals for Praise Thursday.

The Afternoon Drive Co-Hosts talked about Casting Crowns coming to the Ohio State Fair this summer and gave details about the date and location. They also gave away Seussical Jr tickets during their trivia game.

Judah’s devotional from Our Daily Bread is titled: “This Love Is Real”. You Can find the link to his devotional here.

Dylan’s devotional from Our Daily Bread is titled: “Comfort On Doorframes”. You can find the link to his devotional here.

Our trivia question for the Seussical Jr. tickets was: What was the title of Dr. Seuss’s first book?

The answer was: And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

Congratulations to Tim of Mount Vernon for guessing the correct answer! He wins two tickets to Seussical Jr.!

Thanks for listening!

Ice Cream and Hot Dogs!

We’re celebrating two American favorites today on the Drive!
ICE CREAM AND HOT DOGS! (I’m a little too excited about it).

Here’s some fun facts about Ice Cream!

  • The cone didn’t appear until 1904, when a Syrian waffle maker at the St. Louis World’s Fair began rolling his pastries into horns to help an ice cream vendor who had run out of dishes.
  • The idea of the ice cream cone had been patented a year earlier, in 1903, by an Italian in New York City, but the fair popularized it.
  • Today the average American eats about 20 quarts of ice cream a year―the world’s highest per capita consumption, according to the International Dairy Foods Association.
  • Top-selling ice cream flavors are: vanilla, with 33 percent of the market, and chocolate, with 19 percent.
  • It takes 5.8 pounds of whole milk and one pound of cream to make one gallon of ice cream.
  • June is the month that the most ice cream is produced.
  • California produces the most ice cream in America.
  • Chocolate syrup is the world’s most popular ice cream topping.
  • 87% of Americans have ice cream in their freezer at any given time.
  • It takes about 50 licks to finish a single scoop ice cream cone.
  • The perfect temperature for scooping ice cream is between 6 and 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In Canada, more ice cream is sold in the winter months than in the summer.
  • Hawaiian Punch was originally an ice cream topping.
  • Among the most unusual flavors of ice cream ever manufactured are avocado, garlic, jalapeno, and pumpkin. Perhaps the weirdest of all: dill pickle ice cream, which was marketed to expectant mothers.
  • It takes 12 gallons of milk to create one gallon of ice cream.

We gave away $5 to Troyer’s of Apple Valley today by asking this question…
What are the names of the two original characters for Hawaiian Punch?
Their names were Punchy and Oaf!
Congratulations to Betsy from Mt. Vernon who correctly answered!
Image result for punchy and oaf(Here they are, by the way, if you wanted to see what they looked like).

Our For King and Country concert ticket artist trivia question today was a bit of a tricky, numerical one!
We asked how many kids, including Joel and Luke, are in the Smallbone family!
    There are 7 of them!
Joel, Luke, Libby, Rebecca, Ben, Daniel, and Josh!
Congratulations to Troy of Mt. Vernon! She correctly guessed and won the tickets!

Our Word of the Day is frankfurter, a noun that describes a hot dog
    noun ||  frank·furt·er \ˈfraŋk-fə(r)t-ər, -ˌfərt-\
It’s a cured cooked sausage (as of beef or beef and pork) that may be skinless or stuffed in a casing.
Did you know that the backyard barbecue staple is actually European? While it’s impossible to say who really “invented” the popular snack or where it came from, experts say hot dogs likely originated in Vienna, Austria, or Frankfurt, Germany.

    Thanks for listening!

Mystery Monday, Fair-style!

dsc03774Here’s Joe preparing to sample some lamb meatballs while judging at the annual
Knox County Fair lamb cook-off Sunday.

This week we’re live at the Knox County Fair bringing you updates and interviews.  Today’s Mystery Monday question also had to do with the fair’s history:

The land where the Knox County Fairgrounds sits was purchased by the Knox County Commissioners in 1928 for $9,000.  What year was the current grandstand built?

The answer? 1932…and it was erected by the Mount Vernon Bridge Company.  Read more about Knox County Fair history by clicking here. Congratulations to Karolyn of Mount Vernon who won the $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley.

We also gave away a pair of tickets to see Lecrae at the Ohio State Fair this Thursday, July 28th. Congratulations to Lori from Mount Vernon who won the tickets. We’ll give away our last pair tomorrow!

Our Word of the Day today was pantechnicon, which is a British noun meaning a moving van or a furniture van.

Thanks for listening!

Who knew there were so many concerts and musical festivals this summer?!

For this week’s Who Knew Wednesday, we gave you all the information on the different summer concerts and festivals featuring some of your favorite artists.

The first festival we talked about was the 28th annual Alive Festival, which will take place June 17th – 20th at Atwood Lake Park in Mineral City, Ohio. There are going to be over 70 different artists and speakers, including TobyMac, Skillet, Lecrae, Jeremy Camp, NEEDTOBREATHE, Tenth Avenue North, For King & Country, Meredith Andrews, Colton Dixon, and MANY others! You can see the complete lineup, ticket information, and everything else you need to know about the Alive Festival here!

This festival also has an incredible lineup, with headliners TobyMac, Switchfoot, Skillet, and Lecrae! There will also be performances from Colton Dixon, Blanca, Natalie Grant, Matthew West, and many more of your favorite artists. For all the details on that festival, click here!

Another festival that starts just one day later than Creation Northeast is SpiritSong, which combines two awesome things – concerts and roller coasters! You can catch Newsboys, Kari Jobe, For King & Country, Skillet, Jeremy Camp, Colton Dixon, Sidewalk Prophets, Tenth Avenue North, Love & the Outcome, and more! If you don’t want to attend an entire festival, but still want to catch some live music this summer, we highlighted a couple concerts you can see.

If you’re a fan of Rend Collective, they’ll be at Grove City United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 28th. You can check out all the information on that concert here.

You can also check out Christ Tomlin at the Ohio State Fair on Monday, August 3rd. The concert starts at 7pm and you can get all the information on that over here!

And, even though it isn’t happening until September 26th, we gave some information on SonFest 2015! The first three artists who have been announced are Colton Dixon, Leeland, and I Am They. More artists will be added to the lineup soon, and we’ll tell you as soon as they’re announced. Tickets will go on sale soon and you can head over here to find out how to get those and for all the other information on SonFest 2015.

Our word of the day was Yooper, which is a native or resident of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. (I like to imagine there’s a superhero who lives on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan who is named that Super Yooper)

Joe was also excited about his Soda Pop Shoppe Jelly Belly jelly beans. We tried all the different flavors – Orange and Grape Crush, A&W Root Beer and Cream Soda, 7-Up, and Dr. Pepper. If you could create any flavor of jelly bean, what would it be?

Have a great evening and thanks for listening!
