Praise Thursday 12/3

We found an article from stressfreemama.com.  This article focuses on spiritual ways to maintain stress. There are many ways to manage stress but without a solid spiritual connection, those ways are just surface fixes. You must know who you are, and what your life is about to live a life of ease and peace.

1. Break the stress cycle where you can.

Relieve your symptoms of stress–do what you need to reduce headaches, settle your stomach, get some sleep. If your head hurts, you can’t meditate, so first get the symptoms under control.

Take care of your body–Begin, slowly and gently, to do the things that you know are good for you. Eat well, exercise, sleep. You must reduce cortisol, and increase serotonin for your body to have the capacity to find quiet.

Watch your reactions–observe your reactions to stressors and whether they are appropriate for the situation. Are you overreacting? Is there some other way to respond to the stressors in your life. Start by simple observation. Don’t try to “fix” yourself, just observe what is happening. Observation alone is a great way to manage stress.
2. Look for grace. Keep an eye out for little miracles.

3. Find quiet. God talks when we listen. But its more like a whisper than a shout. Find quiet so you can hear.

4. Do that which makes you feel close to God. Put yourself in the environment where you feel God, and if you don’t feel Creator now, go where you remember you used to feel sacredness. If you go to church, go back to church and just sit. Go to your most sacred places and sit.

5. God is the Creator so do “creative” things. Find passion again.

6. Remember what you love. For mothers, loving our children can reconnect us to the Divine. But don’t forget to love nature, love life, love your partner. Being in love can reduce stress.

7. Find a trusted person or persons to support your desire to reconnect. This person could be a priest, minister or friend or grandmother. Talk about the sacred. Remember it. Discuss ways to manage your stress spiritually.

8. Remember when you used to be connected and make it a practice to remember that every day. When stress approaches, recall that peaceful time and imagine actually being there. Remember the trust you had. Remember how protected you felt.

9. Mindless to mindfulness–Practice being fully present and mindful. Give yourself the assignment of being mindful for 1 day, 1 hour or 1 minute. Really be present. Observe yourself and the events around you and fully participate with your heart.

10. Choose to change your patterns–Make a choice to find yourself again, but make that choice like an open window catching a breeze. Don’t force it, don’t make a “to do” list, don’t stress about it. The best ways to manage stress don’t involve creating more stress.

11. Pray. Meditate. Take time to talk to God.

12. Be grateful–Remember to say thank you everyday for the gifts you have.

Word of the Day

Game Time Tuesday – 12/1

It’s the first day of December, and also Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive!

For the first round of song poetry, I used these lyrics:

Light of lights eternal hope has come
By and by to lead us back to love
Come behold a manger for a bed
Where the King of Kings has laid his head

Katie from Mount Vernon called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belong to Danny Gokey’s new Christmas song, Lift Up Your Eyes.

The second round of song poetry featured these lyrics:

Love wide as galaxies
Love deeper than the sea
Countless as all infinity
Love like a shooting star
Tearing apart the dark
Shining for all eternity

Julie from Fredericktown called in and answered that the song was You Will Never Run by Rend Collective.

All throughout the show, I gave you tons of information on all the different events happening that are benefiting Food For The Hungry. You can find all of those events and the full details over here and here.

Have a terrific Tuesday evening!

Mystery Monday

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive.

I hid something in the Mystery Box, and after the hearing, smell, and taste tests, Stephen from Mt. Vernon called in and correctly guessed the item in the box was Chick-fil-a Sauce.

We told you all about the Fredericktown Christmas Walk, which is happening this Saturday from 4 pm – 8 pm in downtown Fredericktown.

Our Word of the Day was advent, a noun meaning both the coming of Christ, or the arrival of a notable person, event, or thing. You can read more on that here.

Have a great week!

It’s Game Time!

Jess and I are excited to share our game experience!  We played LAZER TAG for Jess’ birthday this past weekend!  We had a blast! Jess’ favorite part was getting Kelsey and Annabelle out.  My favorite part was getting Jess out! Overall it was a great experience and many memories were made!

Faith and Jess

We also played some games during the show!  Today we played Buzz Word!  The buzz word was “HAPPY” and our winner for Buzz Word is Heidi from Mount Vernon!

We also had Operation Christmas Shoebox totals! They were absolutely outstanding! The Fredericktown location at New Life Community Church received 523 shoe boxes! The Mount Vernon drop off location at Brandon Baptist Church received 5323 shoe boxes!  Thanks to everyone who participated in Operation Christmas Child.
If you were not able to make a box you still can! Go to http://www.samaritanspurse.org and pack a shoe box online!

Have a great Tuesday!

Mystery Monday – 11/23

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive!

I started off the show with a Mystery Question about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I asked what character has had more balloons than any other character in the history of the parade, and Rhonda from Mount Vernon called in and correctly answered Snoopy. You can find out more information and fun facts about the parade over here.

And speaking of parades, make sure you head out to the Mount Vernon Christmas Walk & Parade this Sunday from 1 pm – 5 pm in downtown Mount Vernon. The parade will start at 2:30 pm.

Head over here for all the details on Go Green With Big Blue on Black Friday.

The Operation Christian Child shoe box drive ended today, but you can still pack a shoe box online over here.

Have a great week!
