Who Knew? 11/18

Who Knew Wednesday is all about the Knox Needs Market Place! Mount Vernon Nazarene University will host a “Knox Needs Mega Marketplace” on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Donoho Recreation Center in the Prince Student Union. Participants can get rid of their after-summer garage sale goods or come and sell their handmade items to benefit the Knox County community.

Donated items must be dropped off Friday, Nov. 20, from 4-6 p.m. at the DRC. Handmade goods can be brought the day of the sale. MVNU encourages community businesses and associations to participate.

Those planning to donate or sell crafts can contact Wendi Lahmon at Wendi.Lahmon@mvnu.edu, or call 740-397-9000 ext. 4602.

There will also be a coffee tasting featuring Starbucks holiday flavors at noon in the 586, located in the PSU.

As part of MVNU’s partnership with Food For The Hungry, the Knox Needs initiative addresses local issues of hunger. Knox Needs specifically focuses on food insecurity and difficult living conditions within the Knox County community. Food insecurity means that at least some household members are uncertain of having, or unable to acquire, enough food due to insufficient resources.

It’s Thursday, Praise Day!

Praise Thursday is all about patience!
James 1:2-3 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
Galatians 4:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Sometimes we are so quick to complain we forget to be patient.  God desires us to have control of our patience which can result in a good attitude.
Chuck Swindoll said, ” I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it.  And so it is with you…we are in charge of our attitudes.”

The Word of the Day
Williwaw
-noun
A sudden violent wind

Have a fantastic Thursday!

Who Knew Wednesday- Stress Awareness!

Who knew how to help distress ourselves?

Stress is unavoidable fact of life, but it’s how you deal with it that counts.  According to The BeingWell, a not-for-profit helping achieve mindfulness with six simple ways.

1. Appreciate your food

When you eat lunch, don’t do other things at the same time, even if you are eating at your desk. Take time to eat and enjoy the company you are with.

2. When you walk, focus on the action

Don’t allow your mind to drift to unpleasant places when walking, like the many emails you have to reply to or the document you have to finish by the end of the day. Just focus on putting one foot in front of the other and it’ll hep clear your head. Look at what is around you, go with a friend, listen to some music, whatever makes you relax!

3. Pay close attention to your breathing

Thinking too many negative and stressful thoughts can actually stop you doing your job properly in some cases, but moving your concentration to your breathing helps break the pattern.

4. Pause for a moment before doing simple things

When you have a busy job, you can find yourself always in a rush, and once you’re in that mindset it’s hard to break out of it. Smell the roses! Soak up the moments you are in.

5. Don’t rush to speak

When someone at work is talking to you, or if you are in a group discussion and everyone except you seems to be saying something, don’t rush to offer your own opinions. Relax, let the words wash over you and only speak when you know exactly what it is you want to add. When you’re stressed you need to make you say what you mean and not rash comments you only feel at a fragment of the moment.

6. Don’t do exactly the same thing day after day

Falling into the same pattern of events every day can cause you to lose touch with what’s going on outside your own little bubble. Just small, regular adjustments can help you gain some perspective.

Word of the Day
trepid
-adject
timorous, fearful

Have a great Wednesday!
