Praise Thursday! DTR?

Today on Praise Thursday we talked about DTR…define the relationship…with God.
We dove into Kyle Idleman’s book, Not A Fan. We need to define the relationship we have with Christ. Is it just casual or is it a serious commitment?  Are we fans or followers?

A fan is someone who makes cultural experiences.  They look at the commitment level of others around them and feel like their relationship with Jesus is solid.  Fans also use a religious ruler.  They point to their observance of religious rules and rituals as evidence that they are really followers.

Who are we going to be? A fan, or a follower that is committed to have a relationship with God.

Well, you can’t see the wind, but it moves the leaves
From the bottom to the top of the tallest trees
You are everything I will ever need
And they can’t take that from me

The Second Round of Sound Poetry lyrics cam from Tenth Avenue North’s No MAn is an Island.

I wish you never thought you had to go
I wish you never thought you had to leave
We can always lift each other up
We can build a shelter for the weak, come on

Praise Thursday on The Afternoon Drive

It’s Praise Thursday and Conflict Resolution day so we combined them! We took a look at how to resolve conflict based on God’s word.

http://www.focusonthefamily.com/lifechallenges/relationship-challenges/conflict-resolution/tips-and-tools-for-healthy-conflict-resolution

Mary Yerkes references Ken Sande’s book The Peacekeeper, in her article from Focus on the Family. “Peacemakers are people who breathe grace,” says Sande. “They draw continually on the goodness and power of Jesus Christ, and then they bring his love, mercy, forgiveness, strength, and wisdom to the conflicts of daily life.”

Conflict is inevitable. No relationship is immune. When managed biblically, conflict can serve as a catalyst for change and an opportunity for spiritual and relational growth.

Skill and practical tools for resolving conflict are important. Here some practical tips, gleaned from professional conciliators, that can help you resolve personal conflict:

  • Define the problem and stick to the issue. Clearly define the issue and stay on topic during the discussion.
  • Pursue purity of heart. Before approaching others regarding their faults and shortcomings, prayerfully face up to your own. Confess any way you might have contributed to the problem.
  • Plan a time for the discussion. Plan a time to meet with the other person when you are both rested and likely to respond in love to the other person’s concerns.
  • Affirm the Relationship. Affirm the relationship before clearly defining the problem.
  • Listen carefully. Once you share your feelings, listen to the other person’s perspective.
  • Forgive. Forgive others as Christ has forgiven you.
  • Propose a solution. Remember the relationship is more important than the issue.

Praise Thursday – Involving Yourself in Supportive Relationship

Today, we wrapped up the series where we discussed habits to lead like Jesus, and we talked about the habit of involving yourself in supportive relationships.

Blanchard and Hodges encourage us to surround ourselves with an intimate community of 3-4 trusted friends who can speak truth into our lives.  They also encourage involvement in a small group setting.

You can find the scripture we shared on that by clicking here and here.

Our Word of the Day was divarication, a noun that means the action or process of spreading or diverging. You can read more on that here.

Have a great Thursday night!

Praise Thursday!!

Today on the Afternoon Drive we continued to talk about Leading Like Jesus.

We have focused on 5 habits of leading like Jesus from the the book Lead Like Jesus from Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges.  Today we dove into the habit of Trusting in God’s Unconditional Love.

When you cast off your doubts and reservations about God’s love and accept that you can’t earn it, don’t deserve it, and can’t add to it or lose it, you can proceed in that reality to live and lead the confidence, humility, and true freedom. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

The word of the day is quidnunc a noun, which means, a person who is eager to know the latest news or gossip.

We had a winner for Song Poetry!

Ethan from Utica won two tickets to the Broken Hearts Tour featuring Mandisa, Newsong, and Danny Gokey! The convert is Thursday October 8th in Zanesville!

Have a great night!

Praise Thursday!

Today was Praise Thursday on the Afternoon Drive.

We continued to talk about the leadership habits of Jesus from the book Lead Like Jesus.  We discussed the habit of study and application of scripture.  It’s important to hear the word, read the word, study the word, memorize the word, and meditate on the word.

Bible stands for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. The Bible is intimate love letter to us from God that helps us in our everyday life.  We must go deep within the scriptures to listen to God.

The Word of the Day is, adduce which a verb meaning, to cite as evidence.

Where is the World is Colton Dixon: The last day is tomorrow! Make sure to tune in to The Morning Thing Friday morning from 6-9am for clues.  Also check out our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

Mystery Monday – 9/21

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive!

Joe hid something in the Mystery Box, and after I gave clues that the item was small, light, cylindrical, and smelled like a mix of fruit and chemicals, Kristina from Fredericktown called in and correctly guessed that the item was a scented (grape) markere.

We also had another edition of “Where In The World Is Colton Dixon?”, and Ashley from Mt. Vernon called in and guessed that he was in the public square in downtown Mount Vernon.

Our Word of the Day was apophasis, and you can read about that here.

Have an awesome week!
