A Tasty Mystery Monday

Today was Mystery Monday and we had the return of the Mystery Box. After several people called in to guess, Trisha from Mount Vernon correctly guessed that Joe had hidden chocolate covered cherry jelly beams in the box.

We also gave updates on the TobyMac tour that will be in Columbus this October. Tickets for that went on sale today and you can get them here.

Also, we announced some information on SonFest 2015, which will take place on Saturday, September 26th. Colton Dixon, Leeland, and I Am They have all been confirmed and more artists will be added to the lineup soon. Make sure you stay tuned to WNZR for more information on SonFest 2015.

We talked about Say Something Nice Day, a day started in Charleston, South Carolina to promote being nice and positive to others. Joe and I will have a continuation of this tomorrow, as we’ll be sharing song titles that say something nice.

Our word of the day was fiduciary, an adjective that means involving confidence or trust, especially in reference to the relationship between a trustee and beneficiary. It’s also a noun, simply meaning a trustee.

Have a great week and don’t forget to say something nice!

A Season For Everything

It’s Praise Thursday and we decided to share some devotionals from Our Daily Bread.

We talked about learning and understanding the cost of our salvation in order to truly appreciate it. We shared 1 Peter 1:17-21. You can read the devotional here.

We also talked about there being a season for everything and shared Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. You can check out that devotional here.

Our word of the day was collywobbles, which is a fancy way of saying stomach ache. You can check out more on that word here.

We also gave an update on our Summer 2015 edition of On The Road With Big Blue. We’ll be at Mount Vernon’s June First Friday NEXT Friday, June 6th. You can see all the information on that over here.

Plus, we talked about Toby Mac’s “This Is Not A Test” tour, which will be stopping in Columbus at Nationwide Arena THIS October. Tickets go on sale Monday, June 1st and you can find them here.

SPF, UVA, UVB, Aloe – Sunscreen Overload!

For today’s Who Knew Wednesday, we talked all about sunscreen!

We defined some sunscreen terms, like SPF- Sun Protection Factor, UVA- Ultraviolet aging rays, and UVB- Ultraviolet burning rays.

We used an awesome infographic with tons of facts that you can check out here.

We also talked about the importance of protecting your lips from the sun and using a lip balm that has an SPF of 15 or higher. Plus, don’t forget to wear sunglasses that have protection against both UVA and UVB rays!

We compared lotion vs. oil vs. spray, and came to the conclusion that it is mostly just your preference. If you use spray, you just have to make sure you don’t get lazy and forget to rub it in, especially in the areas that burn easily, like your shoulders, neck, and ears. Also, oil isn’t the best if you’re prone to breakouts, because it stays in your pours. Whatever you use, just make sure that you use it correctly, generously, and OFTEN!

Our word of the day was youthquake, which is a noun meaning a shift in cultural norms influenced by the values, tastes, and morals of young people.

Have a great rest of your week and be sure to use sunscreen- and use it responsibly!

EMPIRES and Game Time Tuesday

Today, we celebrated the release of the NEW Hillsong UNITED album, EMPIRES. The album released today and features 12 songs, one of which we will be introducing during this week’s NZ Top 10. We also talked with Jonathan Bock about their movie, Hillsong: Let Hope Rise, which will be releasing this fall.

For Game Time Tuesday, we played Buzzword with Alicia from Fredericktown, who won a VeggieTales DVD. The Buzzword was old.

We also played Song Poetry with the lyrics “Your glory like a fire, Awakening desire, Will burn our hearts with truth”. Katie from Mount Vernon correctly guessed that those lyrics belong to Meredith Andrew’s song, Open Up The Heavens.

Our word of the day was flapdoodle, a noun that simply means nonsense. It’s a really fun word and I encourage you to start using it in your everyday conversations. You can read more about it here.

Have a great week and thanks for listening!

Going Barefoot and Being Grateful

On today’s show, we celebrated Praise Thursday by talking about bare feet and gratitude, and what exactly those two things have to do with each other.

Today’s is “One Day Without Shoes Day”, a day created by TOMS Shoes which encourages us to go barefoot in order to raise awareness for impoverished people around the world who do not have shoes, while simultaneously forcing us to be grateful for the small, simple things we have that we may not even realize are blessings.

We specifically talked about being grateful to be able to serve others, being grateful in all circumstances, and having an attitude of gratitude. You can read more about that in Colossians 3:15-17 and Philippians 4:6-7.

Our word of the day was opprobrium, a noun which means a public disgrace or vicious conduct.

We also talked about all the exciting stuff going on with Hillsong UNITED – they won Top Christian Artist at Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards, their new album EMPIRES releases next Tuesday, and they have a movie, Hillsong: Let Hope Rise, that will release at the end of September. You can tune in next Tuesday to hear more about the album, plus we’ll replay Joe’s discussion with the producer of the film, Jonathan Bock.

Don’t forget to come out this weekend as we kick off our Summer 2015 season of On The Road With Big Blue at the Utica Sertoma Ice Cream Festival and Mount Vernon’s Memorial Day Parade! You can find out more at wnzr.fm.

Have a great end of the week, and thanks for listening!

We Scream for Ice Scream on Who Knew Wednesday!

Today’s Afternoon Drive was full of a very sweet topic- ICE CREAM!

We shared some fun facts about ice cream that we found over at icecream.com and we also took their quiz to find out which ice cream flavor matched our personality! Joe’s result was mint and I got vanilla. You can take the quiz here!

And speaking of ice cream, make sure you come out to the 41st annual Utica Sertoma Ice Cream Festival! Our Big Blue Crew will be in the parade, which starts at 11 am and travels throughout the streets of downtown Utica. We’ll also be at the festival from 2 pm until 5 pm, so make sure you stop by to see us, pick up some free stuff, and register to win some gift certificates for FREE Velvet Ice Cream!

Also, our word of the day was cozen, which means to deceive or win over through artful coaxing.

Have a great rest of your week and come visit us this weekend as we kick off our summer 2015 season of On The Road with Big Blue!

May Ray Day

On today’s show, we celebrated May Ray Day – a day where you are encouraged to get outside and soak up the May sunshine! Make sure you get out and enjoy the May rays later if you haven’t already.

Our word of the day was dauntless, which you may recognize from the popular Divergent novel and film franchise. It’s an adjective which means resolute in the face of danger or difficulty, or fearless.

Joe shared a story about an adorable, two-week-old orphaned moose, Ojibwe, who was recently rescued and is now living at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. You can check out the full story (and see the cute pictures) here.

We also had a Buzzword stumper with the word old.

Make sure you come visit the Big Blue Crew at the Utica Ice Cream Festival and Parade THIS Saturday, May 23 and see us in the Mount Vernon Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25.

Have a fantastic Tuesday and thanks for listening!
