Candy Corn…yes or no?

It’s National Candy Corn day, and people have some strong opinions! Some love it, and some, well….think it tastes like chalk. We loved hearing your thoughts on it! Karen said she loves it with peanuts, so did Ashley, and our very own Joe Rinehart, who said it’s the perfect mix of salty and sweet.

Drop your opinions about it right here! We wanna know, do you love it, or can you not stand it?: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1093643916095736&set=a.392606606199474

Apparently, candy corn comes in a wide variety of flavors too!:

-Reindeer Corn (Vanilla)

-Candy Cane Corn

-Pumpkin Spice (YUM!)

-Pumpkin Pie

-Apple

-Caramel Apple!

And more!

Cake? Or Pie? Who Knew?

Boston Cream Pie? Is it? Today America celebrates one of the tastiest, but confusing desserts out there!

Is it pie? Or is it cake? Anne Byrn’s boonk, ‘American Cake,’ says Boston Cream Pie was created in 1856 by Armenian-French chef Mossburg Sanzian at the Parker House Hotel in Boston. The cake consisted of (from the menu) two layers of French butter sponge cake filled with thick custard and brushed with a rum syrup; its side was coated with the same custard overlaid with toasted sliced almonds, and the top coated with chocolate fondant.

So, what’s your favorite cake? What’s the worst? Here is a summary of what you told us!

BEST:
Chocolate cake donuts
Devil’s Food with caramel, brown sugar, or peanut butter icing
Carrot cake with buttercream or cream cheese icing
White wedding cake with buttercream or chocolate icing
German Chocolate cake
Red Velvet cake
Red Velvet cheesecake
4-layer black walnut cake
Boston Cream Pie
Pineapple upside-down cake
Dairy Queen Ice Cream cake

WORST:
boxed fruit cake
vanilla cake with vanilla icing
urinal cakes LOL (that’s from former WNZR DJ Patrick)

Car Names? Yeah, we all do it

It’s Who Knew Wednesday on The Afternoon Drive! Who knew, it’s National Name Your Car day, and we asked YOU what you’ve named YOUR car(s). You didn’t disappoint!

Alyssa’s first car was a Dodge Caravan named Vicky Van Halen, and her current car is a red Dodge named Clifford The Big Red Dodge (wink wink).

Jim said his car is simply called ‘The Pumpkin’. We really hope it looks like one.

Paula says her car from the 60s was called Sammy Scouts, and her Mazda from the 70s was Mandy Mazda (nice alliteration).

For whatever reason, we love naming our cars…and we loved seeing these names!

History Lessons: Dove Awards Edition!

Hey there!

Today for Who Knew Wednesday on The Afternoon Drive, we took a trip back in time to the origins of the Dove Awards. The rich history of the Awards show goes back all the way, originally conceptualized by gospel singer-songwriter Bill Gaither. Plus, there some interesting standards back then that qualified a song to be considered ‘gospel’. Apparently, the only qualified music was that sold in Christian Booksellers Association affiliated stores. Nowadays, the standards have changed quite a bit.

I was born in Oakland, California on September 25, 1951

Water Coolers, Tomato Shows, and Who Knew Wednesday!

Today on The Afternoon Drive we went On The Road With Big Blue for the 48th Fredericktown Tomato Show in downtown Fredericktown! Marcy shared updates with the Big Blue Crew as they had tons of fun, including a message from our friend Brad: “Come to the Fredericktown Tomato Show and meet the Big Blue Crew!”

We also shared some weird facts about water coolers for Who Knew Wednesday…who knew a song by the 80s band Toto could be named after one?

The 1982 hit song “Rosanna” by Toto, commonly believed to have been written about Rosanna Arquette, the actress daughter of Patricia and David Arquette, is actually about David Paich’s childhood water cooler, a Glacier Bay 5 Gallon Hot, Room and Cold Water Dispenser. Paich nicknamed the watercooler Rosanna, which unfortunately met her end in an accident during Paich’s parents’ move from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara in 1980- PointsInCase.com
