Honor Starts with God and He will Stay with You

Today we continued our devotional, “Time With God For Father’s” by Jack Countryman!

God Promise’s You Will Never Be Alone
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 New International Version (NIV)

16″ May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.”

The Bible tells us over and over again that God will never leave us or forsake us. He is eternal, never changing and he reminds us of this in Malachi (Ma-li-keye) 3:6- “I am the Lord I do not change.” We should invite God into our lives during the best of times and the worst of times. As long as you give him the invitation, he will always want to come in. He will forever be your comforter and an encouragement

Honor starts with God
Proverbs 3 9-10. “Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the first fruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.”

Sometimes it is hard for us to remember that everything we own really belongs to God. And just as he blesses us with good things everyday, we should strive to bless others. When we do this, we become the hands and feet of God.

Jack writes about how God notices our everyday decisions and actions. He knows what we need when we need it and invites us to ask for his council. He is waiting to bless us with his love and grace and wants us to serve him by blessing others.

The Long Walk Home

Today we continue our devotion from the book “Time with God for Fathers by Jack Countryman.” Our focus is going to be on keeping joy throughout our walk and living for God’s ambition during that walk.

The Long Walk Home

1 Peter 1:8-9

“Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith – the salvation of your soul.”

The Christian life is intended to be both taken seriously and full of joy. It takes a spirit-filled, conscious effort to contemplate our faith in a way that brings a noticeable positive impact in our lives.

But how could we not be joyful knowing the creator of everything, knows, cares for and loves every single one of us?

As you go through this life, walk in step with the one who loves you dearly, and do your best to let that love show.

Looking out for Number Two

Philippians 2:3-4

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interest, but also for the interest of others.”

The whole idea behind this verse is living for something other than ourselves. Specifically, God and his ambitions. Especially in today’s culture, that is so hard to do. We want to live FOR US, our desire and ambition are often the driving for behind how we live.

God wants to live through us. So our thoughts and actions should be centered around that concept. That might mean reaching out to someone who makes us uncomfortable or giving up something we know isn’t good for us. First and for most, we are to help forward the kingdom.

It’s important to note though, that this verse also does encourage self-care and ambition when it says “Let each of you look out not only for your own self-interest…”

NOT ONLY is the key phrase there. God doesn’t want us to neglect ourselves. Often, you’ll find that what God wants for your life is also beneficial to you. Therefore, by focusing on God’s interest, you indirectly satisfy your own.
