“Who Knew” at the Hartford Fair

IMG_20160810_174325422_HDRToday, our Big Blue Crew went On The Road to the Hartford Fair for a special edition of Who Knew Wednesday. Joe deemed this event “Dudes’ Night Out” since he’s there with Eddie and Dan.

You can find out everything you need to know about the Hartford Fair by clicking here.

We gave away a $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley to the winner of our trivia question for the day. Since we’re in the middle of the Olympics, I asked how many gold medals Michael Phelps has won so far in Rio. Dan from Howard called in and correctly answered that he has won 3.

Make sure to visit us tomorrow thru Sunday in downtown Mount Vernon at the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival.

Have an awesome Wednesday evening!

The values series: Rest

struggles

Today we finished our series on reclaiming core values, inspired by the book #Struggles by Craig Groeschel.  Read more about the book here.

Today REST is our focus.  How do we replenish rest in our lives?  Craig shares an excellent quote attributed to St. Augustine: “Because God has made us for Himself, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him.”  Why do we struggle finding rest?  Maybe because we haven’t learned to rest in Him. Putting God first and trusting in Him are two big steps to help us rest.

Technology can rob us of our rest, especially our phones. Checking them constantly, especially first thing in the morning, having to be the first to know things and share things…it might mean we need to take a phone fast.  Yep, like a food fast.

Learning to be still and embrace Matthew 11:28-29 (below) is critical; even if it’s just 5 minutes a day.  I think 5 minutes to be silent and 5 more minutes to be silent and focused on God is really valuable. It helps us clear our minds and hear the ‘still, small voice’ of God.

Honestly, if we can’t take 5 minutes a day to unplug and listen to God, what kind of message are we sending to Him?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Our Word of the Day is edify, which is a verb meaning to instruct and improve especially in moral and religious knowledge. Synonyms are to uplift and enlighten.

Emily’s team gets points for being interviewed live on a radio or TV station, so WNZR was honored to give her that chance today!

Who Knew?- Fair edition

IMG_20160726_135413052_HDRWNZR’S Kelsey Bryte with Case Armstrong at the Fair!

Today Knox County Fair week brought a Who Knew Wednesday trivia question:

In what month and in what year was the first Knox County Fair?

The answer was October, 1849 – 167 years ago, making 2016 the 168th annual Knox County Fair.

Here’s a little more information from the Knox County Historical Society’s website:
In the winter of 1846-47, a group of farmers formed the Morris (Township) Agricultural Club, and in November of 1847 they held a one-day fair on the farm of William Bonar, displaying grains, fruit and livestock. From this simple beginning came the organization now known as The Knox County Agricultural Society, which held its first county-wide fair on October 23 and 24, 1849. From its earliest days, the Society was dedicated to “encouraging the improvements of farm products, including farm stock of all kinds, and the products of domestic industry and skill – in short, all that pertains to rural comfort, convenience, and elegance, as well as the products of the skilled artisan and mechanic.”

Congratulations to Mia from Mount Vernon who won the $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley.

Our Word of the Day is doff (DAHF), which is a verb meaning to take off a garment of clothing, or to remove your hat as a salute or tribute to someone.

Thanks for listening!
