Today on The Afternoon Drive, we released details about the 18th annual Valentine’s Banquet.

WNZR’s annual Valentines Banquet will be Friday, February 12th!

WNZR’s 18th annual Valentine’s Banquet will be held on Friday, February 12th at 7 p.m. in the President’s Dining Room located in the Hyson Campus Center on the MVNU campus.

This year’s theme is “Love & Laughter”. We will feature a discussion on how humor is important for all relationships, but is essential when a couple is striving for a healthy, loving relationship.

We will have a Couples Challenge with fun games and fabulous prizes. Couples attending the banquet will have the opportunity to sign up to participate in Love Song Poetry, Movie/TV Trivia and How Well Do You Know Your Spouse.

An Italian buffet dinner will be served including chicken parmesan, fettuccini alfredo, tossed salad, antipasto salad, fruit salad, garlic bread sticks and chocolate layer cake for dessert.

Guests will also get the chance to win from over $1,000 dollars’ worth of door prizes!

Entertainment will be provided by several WNZR staff members.

Banquet tickets are $18 per person and include the full buffet dinner, entertainment and door prizes. Tickets are on sale now. They are available at the WNZR studios located on the second floor of Founders Hall on the MVNU campus, and at Gospel Supply Shop, 117 South Main Street, in Mount Vernon. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, February 5, at 6 p.m. and seating is limited. All profits from this year’s Valentine’s Banquet will go to support MVNU broadcasting students who plan to attend a national broadcasting convention this year.

Checks need to made payable to Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

WNZR studios are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (ticket sales available during those hours only).

Gospel Supply Shop is open from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from on 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturdays. (Ticket sales available during those hours only).

Are you cold? Do you find yourself yourself shivering as you get in the car on your way home from work? If so, don’t worry because we have information you never knew about! Today on Who Knew Wednesday Jess and I talked about everything you should know about cold weather clothing!

The key to cold weather dressing is layering.  There are three basic layers you need to use in this cold weather.
1. Base layer
2. Insulating layer
3. Protective layer

Your cold weather base layer lies against your skin and is primarily meant to provide the first layer of insulation and most importantly deal with moisture removal. Staying warm and active means occasionally sweating, and sweating is bad if your clothing doesn’t allow it to move out and away from your skin. Water on the skin in cold weather can turn deadly as it can lead to rapid heat loss, so ensure you use an inner layer that pulls sweat away from the body.

The job of your main insulating layer is to trap in heat.
Natural fibers like goose down and wool have excellent insulating properties. They provide a lot of heat for reasonably light weight, which is a concern for more active cold weather situations like skiing or hiking. Wool can absorb 30% of its weight and not feel wet and even continues to provide some insulation when soaked, while down loses its effectiveness when wet.

Your outer layer is the shell that keeps all the inner layers protected from the elements. It’s usually (though not always) a single layer, and doesn’t necessarily have to have any insulation.  The most important consideration for your protective layer is that it traps air and stops wind. It should also be breathable enough to allow moisture out–you don’t want your sweat trapped under your shell with you. That means that most outer layers are water-resistant but not fully water-proofed.
