Chapel Hill’s Fall Festival and Pablo Picasso!

Hi!

Today on the show I talked about how the Church at Chapel Hill’s Fall Festival is coming up. We talked with both Connie Jackson and Pastor Jon Whisner on what this event is all about. You won’t want to miss out on all the activities that will be at the event! Also, another person had a chance to win a $5 gift card to Watts Restaurant if they could guess the correct answer to our Who am I? trivia question.

  • I was born on October 25th, 1881, in Malaga, Andalusia, Spain.
  • My father was a painter who specialized in naturalistic depictions of birds. He also was a professor of art at the School of Crafts.
  • I have created around 50,000 artworks throughout my lifetime, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics.
  • I am the Co-Founder of Cubism which is an art movement.
  • The most famous painting that I am known for is the “Guernica” which I finished in 1937.
  • I died on April 8th, 1973, at the age of 91.

….I am Pablo Picasso

Congratulations to Elizabeth of Centerburg for guessing the correct answer! She wins a $5 gift card to Watts Restaurant!

Dove Awards Winners Share Their Comments!

Brandon Lake swept the night, taking home 4 awards! In accepting Artist of the Year, he shared a little about what this experience has meant to him–

“I’m so grateful to be a part of this community. During COVID, what was really beautiful is, the song ‘Gratitude’ says, ‘You’ve got a lion inside your lungs.’ Thousands of people were sending me messages of people that were in the hospital and the world would say, you’ve got death in your lungs, and they would say, no, you’ve got the Lion of the tribe of Judah in your lungs. Get up and praise the Lord!”

Blessing Offor took home “Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year” for his hit “Brighter Days.” Here are his comments about the meaning behind that song–

“Brighter days aren’t here yet, but they are going to be. There are going to be brighter days. It’s a waiting song; I always want to emphasize that to people. It’s not a song about things being perfect. It’s a song about holding out hope and believing that they will get better. That is the best truth you can ever share with anybody. They don’t have to be perfect now for you to know that it’s coming.”

Praising God for Rest!

In the first show back from Fall Break, Mike and Abby shared updates and highlights from the break, as well as talking about how they were able to rest, which was much needed!

Mike shared Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” He shared that no matter how heavy your life is right now, God is already bearing that burden with you.

Abby shared a devotional about facing daily tasks and buisiness, and how God will always be with you in the midst of them. You can find the devotional here! https://odb.org/2023/10/19/first-on-the-list
