A prayer for our sorrow on this 9/11

On this day of remembering September 11, 2001, I’m sharing a prayer from the book ‘The Right Prayers for Every Need,’ from Christine Dallman and Randy Petersen.

Even as my heart is full of sorrow, Heavenly Father, thank you for the blessing of your comfort.

I admit, sometimes I don’t even realize you’ve come with your gentle touch until the moment passes. But I’m grateful for each bit of comfort that you bring. Those blessed distractions – the hummingbird at the feeder, my pet’s needs and affections, and a visit or phone call from a friend – these things give us a break from the ever-encroaching sadness.

And the reasons to keep going – people you’ve given me to love, skills and abilities I have to contribute to help others, and the sense of a future – all remind me that grief is not all there is to life.

Help me NOT reject these kindnesses from your hand but allow them to become a part of my healing.

I was born on September 6, 1860, in Cedarville, Illinois.

I was the eighth of nine children.

My father was a prosperous miller and also a political leader. He served for 16 years as a state senator, and he also fought in the Civil War.

In 1905, I was appointed to Chicago’s Board of Education and was made chairman of the School Management Committee.

I was the leader in the women’s suffrage movement and advocated for world peace. I was arguably the most prominent reformer of the progressive era.

I won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931 for my work as a social worker in America. I am recognized as the founder of the social work profession in the United States

I died on May 21, 1935, at the age of 74.

Peace in the Desert and in the Storm

Happy Praise Thursday and last day of August!

Mike shares a Bible verse that is meaningful to him, Colossians 3:15 (ESV)- “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” In the hectic and hurry of our daily lives, it is important to remember the peace that Christ offers us.

Abby also read a devotional from Our Daily Bread which you can find here. God is a loving father, and will carry us the same way a father would carry his son. Even as their faith faltered, God delivered the Israelites through hardship and guided them in the desert. This is another reminder that we can find peace as we are carried by our father!

Marshmallows, Beaches, and Nuclear Physics

What do all of these things have in common? Well nothing actually. Today on the show I talked about how today is National Toasted Marshmallow Day. Today is also National Beach Day. I shared some good memories about sitting around the campfire and roasting marshmallows and making smores. I also shared several upcoming events that the Big Blue Crew will be a part of. New collaborations!

We talked about some exciting collaborations for Artist Newsday! We The Kingdom just teamed up with Anne Wilson to release a new rendition of their single “Jesus Does.” The two artists even surprised fans with a joint performance at Red Rocks Ampitheatre! Read more about it here.
