  • Today is FLAG DAY! Celebrating the adoption of the flag by the second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. President Woodrow Wilson, on May 30, 1916, issued a presidential proclamation declaring June 14 to be National Flag Day.
  • Today is also the birthday of the U.S. Army, which was first established by the Continental Congress back in 1775 to fight against the British during the American Revolutionary War. Happy birthday to our Army vets and THANK YOU for your service!

It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all.”
Sajak joined the syndicated show in 1981. Additionally, he hosted a daytime version of the series throughout the ’80s. He’s won three Daytime Emmy Awards, as well as a Lifetime Achievement honor, for his work. In Wheel of Fortune‘s 36th season, in 2018, he succeeded the Price Is Right‘s Bob Barker as the longest-running host of a game show.
  • The Chosen,” the hit Biblical series about the life of Jesus, is coming to The CW this summer. The network announced Friday that it had picked up the first three seasons of “The Chosen”, which will debut on July 16 at 8 p.m. EST. The Angel Studios show will continue airing through the fall until concluding its run with a Christmas Eve finale. The CW is the first U.S. broadcast TV network to air “The Chosen,” which was created by Dallas Jenkins and stars Jonathan Roumie as Jesus. The Christian historical drama started as a crowdfunded project that went on to become a worldwide hit with 110 million viewers in 175 countries.

Making an impact…and extending a tour!

Today’s Artist News includes:

CHRIS TOMLIN

We are so excited to let you know that Chris and Lauren Tomlin’s non-profit foundation, “FOR OTHERS,” in partnership with the Troubadour Golf and Field Club in College Grove, Tennessee and Discovery Land Company Foundation, raised over $12 million at the 2nd Annual Troubadour For Others Vision Gathering in May.

Over 30 celebrities from across sports and music participated in the benefit golf tournament and auction, including Drew Brees, TobyMac, Kirk Herbstreit, Vince Gill, Ben Roethlisberger and Carrie Underwood.

For Others President David Nasser called the event, “400 people united to do together what we could never do alone. The funds raised will allow us to push the gas pedal even harder as we serve America’s vulnerable and help them find safe and loving homes.”

Chris said, “This year’s Troubadour For Others Vision Gathering exceeded our expectations in countless ways. What a day! Best golf experience, incredible ladies’ gathering, and most of all, we witnessed an evening of laughter and heart that reached beyond our highest hopes. Because of the generosity of our guests, we’ll be able to fund even more adoptions than planned this year so that families can focus on welcoming their new child wholeheartedly without financial stress. I’m so sincerely grateful to everyone who attended and to those who chose to donate. You’re our heroes.”

Proceeds will go to help improve the lives of vulnerable kids and families across the USA.

CAIN

After selling out 22 shows during their first-ever headlining tour this Spring, award winning sibling trio, CAIN, has added 33 new tour dates to their Fall 2023 calendar, extending the CAIN Live & In Color Tour presented by World Vision, promoted by Premier Productions. Joined by Katy Nichole and David Leonard, CAIN Live & In Color will kick off Wednesday, September 20, in Baton Rouge, LA.

“This fall, we are coming to 33 cities across the US on our LIVE AND IN COLOR Tour,” said Taylor Cain. “We were inspired to name the tour LIVE AND IN COLOR because wearing matching colors has become part of our tradition. We want the audience to join us in wearing the chosen color for each night and together we create a family experience for everyone.”

“We’re trying to do something new with our tour! We want people to get to know who we are and the other artists joining us.” added Logan Cain. “We promise you are going to experience something very unique which includes fun and entertainment as well as ministry, worship and a chance to encounter the presence of God.”

Takeaways from Momentum 2023

So you may know that five members of our WNZR team (Marcy, Jonathon Langdon, Mike Basko, Mackenzie Holder and me) spent May 30-June 2 in Orlando, FL at the Christian Music Broadcasters’ Momentum 2023 conference. CMB is an organization that exists to support faith-based radio stations, both digital and terrestrial, plus all of their digital products, including podcasting, social media and video. CMB also helps link artists and broadcasters. WNZR has been a member for many years.

I go to Momentum when my calendar permits for two main reasons – to be spiritually and professionally fueled. I always learn something new that I can apply to my work as a professor and a member of the WNZR on-air team.

So…here are just a couple of my big takeaways from this year that I hope you can also ponder, use or apply…and I will continue to share these over the next few weeks.

Speakers Billy Dunn (leadership coach) and Lisa Harper (link here) challenged us on Wednesday to do some internal accounting – some self-reflection – of both our spiritual and leader selves. And let’s face it – we are all leading or influencing something or someone. Billy talked specifically about leadership being a gift; a service to be given, so we should make sure we are in a regular habit of doing self-assessment and thinking about Ephesians 5:15-16, “15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” If you had a broken GPS system, you’d work to fix it, right? So we need to be aware when our own internal GPS breaks down, and how to fix it.

Our leadership should be reflecting humility – tossing aside things like arrogance, entitlement and any thought of invincibility. Billy reminded us that the people you lead need to know you care and that you can be real and authentic – even when you make mistakes!

Trust is at crisis levels in our country, especially among leaders. We can foster trust when we are self-aware and pray fervently that Christ would guide our way, allowing us to value self-control, empathy, and building strong connections.

Lisa talked specifically about kicking your impostor to the curb – about peeling off everything that is keeping you from a deeper relationship with Jesus. When I heard that, I thought of Hebrews 12:1-2, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith….”

Lisa shared her belief that we need to prioritize being alone and praying transparently with our Lord. Remember, He already knows, but even on our worst days, He still says, “that’s my son…that’s my daughter.” We don’t need to pose for Him, we simply need to accept and respond to His unconditional love!

Psalm 84:11 says, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold, from those whose walk is blameless.”

Name a color associated with summer.

Thank God it’s Praise Thursday!

Today on the Afternoon Drive, Zoe read a devotional from Our Daily Bread.

In Martin Handford’s Where’s Waldo? books, a series of children’s puzzle books first created in 1987, the elusive character wears a red and white striped shirt and socks with a matching hat, blue jeans, brown boots, and glasses. Handford has cleverly hidden Waldo in plain sight within the busy illustrations filled with crowds of characters at various locations around the world. Waldo isn’t always easy to see, but the creator promises readers will always be able to find him. Though looking for God isn’t really like looking for Waldo in a puzzle book, our Creator promises we can find Him, too.

Through the prophet Jeremiah, God instructed His people on how to live as foreigners in exile (Jeremiah 29:4–9). He promised to protect them until He restored them according to His perfect plan (vv. 10–11). God assured the Israelites that the fulfillment of His promise would deepen their commitment to call on Him in prayer (v. 12).

Today, even though God has revealed Himself in the story and Spirit of Jesus, it can be easy to get distracted by the busyness of this world. We may even be tempted to ask, “Where’s God?” However, the Creator and Sustainer of all things declares that those who belong to Him will always find Him if they seek Him with all their hearts (vv. 13–14).

Let there be Light!

Today is Praise Thursday! Here is the Devotional Zoe shared from Our Daily Bread

In my daughter’s earliest days, I often named for her the things she encountered. I’d identify objects or allow her to touch something unfamiliar and say the word for her, bringing understanding—and vocabulary—to the vast world she was exploring. Though my husband and I might naturally have expected (or hoped) her first word would be Mama or Daddy, she surprised us with an entirely different first word: her small mouth murmured dight one day—a sweet, mispronounced echo of the word light I’d just shared with her.

Light is one of God’s first words recorded for us in the Bible. As the Spirit of God hovered over a dark, formless, and empty Earth, God introduced light into His creation, saying, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3). He said the light was good, which the rest of Scripture bears out: the psalmist explains that God’s words illuminate our understanding (Psalm 119:130), and Jesus refers to Himself as “the light of the world,” the giver of the light of life (John 8:12).

God’s first utterance in the work of creation was to give light. That wasn’t because He needed light to do His work; no, the light was for us. Light enables us to see Him and to identify His fingerprints on the creation around us, to discern what is good from what is not, and to follow Jesus one step at a time in this vast world.
