Who knew about allergies?

It’s that time the year when the sniffle and sneezes happen.  Spring allergies have arrived! This is the time we start asking ourselves, Why? How? What?  Who Knew Wednesday was all about allergies on the Afternoon Drive!

WebMD says, “The biggest spring allergy trigger is pollen — tiny grains released into the air by trees, grasses, and weeds for the purpose of fertilizing other plants. When pollen grains get into the nose of someone who’s allergic, they send the immune system into overdrive.”

Do you want to get rid of these pesky allergens?  The Morning Thing found 9 ways to to do just that! Check out this article from today.com.  We can fight the sniffles!

We can’t forget the Word of the Day! Today’s word is hoi polloi. It is a noun and means; the masses.  Now you can sound smarter to your friends!

Have a great Wednesday night!

Praise Thursday – 8/27

Today was an extra special Praise Thursday, as we are celebrating the arrival of the new freshman class on the campus of MVNU!

It was also my first show back in what feels like forever, but was really only a little over a week, due to vacation and prepping for the new students to arrive on campus.

Joe shared a lot from Psalm 139, which you can find over here.

We told you about some upcoming On The Road With Big Blue events, and you can find our full calendar by clicking here.

Our Word of The Day was recusant, a noun meaning one who refuses to accept or obey authority. You can read more on that here.

Have a great end to your week!

A Fishy Mystery Monday

Today was Mystery Monday and we had the return of the Mystery Box.

After receiving several guesses for things such as Pop-Tarts, strawberries, Popsicles, mini-donuts, and fruit roll-ups, Emily from Howard called in and correctly guessed that the item Joe hid in the box was assorted-flavored Swedish Fish.

We gave you lots of information for On The Road with Big Blue for this week, and you can find out everything you need to know over here.

Our Word of the Day was umpteen, an informal adjective meaning very many or lots of. You can read more on that here.

Have a fantastic week!

Praise Thursday – Operation Christmas Child

Today was Praise Thursday and we had our monthly spotlight on Operation Christmas Child.

We shared a story from Livia, a girl you received an Operation Christmas Child box that significantly impacted her life. You can read the whole thing here.

We encourage you to take advantage of the back to school sales, as well as the tax-free weekend that starts tomorrow, to stock up on things you can put in shoe boxes OCC in a couple of months. You can find more information on Operation Christmas Child over here.

Our Word of the Day was lampoon, a noun that means satire directed at an individual. You can read more on that here.

And don’t forget to click here to make sure you are up to date on all the places we will be On The Road with Big Blue the next few weeks.

Have a great rest of your week!

A Sugary Who Knew Wednesday

Today was Who Knew Wednesday on the show, and we decided to do something a little different.

Joe talked about his experience in the bulk candy store at the Ohio State Fair on Monday, so we opened the phones and asked you to call in and tell us what candies you would pick if you could go into a candy store and choose 8 different 4 ounce bags of candy.

Joe chose Indian Corn, Mike & Ike’s, Swedish Fish, Maple Nut Goodies, peach rings, honey roaster cashews, orange slices, and Reese’s Pieces.

I said that I would get 3 bags of dark chocolate covered raisins, and then one bag each of peach rings, sour gummy worms, M&Ms, blue raspberry Sour Patch Kids, and blue raspberry sour tape.

We received several calls from people saying they would choose Chick-o-sticks, black licorice, chocolate covered raisins, malt balls, Bit-O-Honey, JuJu Fish, Sno Caps, Skittles, Laffy Taffy, Swedish Fish, Twix, Sweet Tarts, Smarties, and gummy bears.

Joe also shared a list of the top 25 selling candies, which you can find over here.

Our Word of the Day was forswear, a verb meaning to promise to stop doing or give up something. You can read more on that here.

Plus, don’t forget to head over here to see all the information on where we will be during the next week of On The Road with Big Blue.

Have an awesome Wednesday evening!

Game Time Tuesday – 8/4

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive.

We played song poetry with these lyrics:

Could it possibly be
That we simply can’t believe
That this unconditional
Kind of love would be enough

Josiah from Sunbury called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belonged to MercyMe’s song Flawless.

Joe talked about the Chris Tomlin concert at the Ohio State fair that he and some of our staff got to attend. You can see all the pictures from that by clicking here.

We also told you that our Big Blue Crew will be on the road at August First Friday, the Hartford Fair, and the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival. You can find out all the information on those events over here.

Our word of the day was luminaria, a noun that is a traditional Mexican Christmas lantern. You can read more on that here.

Have a terrific Tuesday evening!

Mystery Monday – Fairs, Food, and Chris Tomlin

Today was the first day almost back to normal for the Afternoon Drive.

We were On The Road at the Knox County Fair all last week and you can see all the pictures and videos from that over here on our Facebook page.

It was also Mystery Monday, and since Joe Rinehart was On The Road with Big Blue and the rest of our crew at the Ohio State Fair in preparation for the Chris Tomlin concert, I decided to have an Ohio State fair themed Mystery Monday question.

I asked what the most popular fair food is at the Ohio State Fair and, after receiving around 30 guesses from corn dogs to saltwater taffy, I finally got a call from Rosana from Butler correctly guessing deep fried buckeyes.

Our Word of the Day was leitmotif, a noun meaning a dominant recurring theme. You can read more on that here.

Have a great week!

-Jess
