Back to School Mystery Monday

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive and we had a back to school themed Mystery Monday question.

A recent study, which you can find over here, listed the top 3 topics that kids talk to their parents about before going back to school. We told you that bullying was one topic and asked you to name the other two.

We recapped the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival and our awesome photo booth we had there yesterday. You can check out all the pictures from the photo booth and the rest of the festival here.

Our Word of the Day was infinitesimal, an adjective meaning extremely small. You can read more on that here.

Have an awesome week!

Game Time Tuesday – 8/11

Today was Game Time Tuesday and we had a special prize this week.

We played Song Poetry for your chance to win a free chicken barbecue dinner from Kiwanis at the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival this Saturday.

We used the lyrics:

Don’t think you need to settle for a substitute
When I’m the only love that changes you
     Open your heart
It’s time that we start again

Tomi from Mt. Vernon called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belonged to Hawk Nelson’s song Drops In The Ocean.

Our Word of the Day was ulterior, an adjective meaning kept hidden in order to get a particular result. You can read more on that here.

A Sugary Who Knew Wednesday

Today was Who Knew Wednesday on the show, and we decided to do something a little different.

Joe talked about his experience in the bulk candy store at the Ohio State Fair on Monday, so we opened the phones and asked you to call in and tell us what candies you would pick if you could go into a candy store and choose 8 different 4 ounce bags of candy.

Joe chose Indian Corn, Mike & Ike’s, Swedish Fish, Maple Nut Goodies, peach rings, honey roaster cashews, orange slices, and Reese’s Pieces.

I said that I would get 3 bags of dark chocolate covered raisins, and then one bag each of peach rings, sour gummy worms, M&Ms, blue raspberry Sour Patch Kids, and blue raspberry sour tape.

We received several calls from people saying they would choose Chick-o-sticks, black licorice, chocolate covered raisins, malt balls, Bit-O-Honey, JuJu Fish, Sno Caps, Skittles, Laffy Taffy, Swedish Fish, Twix, Sweet Tarts, Smarties, and gummy bears.

Joe also shared a list of the top 25 selling candies, which you can find over here.

Our Word of the Day was forswear, a verb meaning to promise to stop doing or give up something. You can read more on that here.

Game Time Tuesday – 8/4

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive.

We played song poetry with these lyrics:

Could it possibly be
That we simply can’t believe
That this unconditional
Kind of love would be enough

Josiah from Sunbury called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belonged to MercyMe’s song Flawless.

Joe talked about the Chris Tomlin concert at the Ohio State fair that he and some of our staff got to attend. You can see all the pictures from that by clicking here.

We also told you that our Big Blue Crew will be on the road at August First Friday, the Hartford Fair, and the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival. You can find out all the information on those events over here.

Mystery Monday – Fairs, Food, and Chris Tomlin

Today was the first day almost back to normal for the Afternoon Drive.

We were On The Road at the Knox County Fair all last week and you can see all the pictures and videos from that over here on our Facebook page.

It was also Mystery Monday, and since Joe Rinehart was On The Road with Big Blue and the rest of our crew at the Ohio State Fair in preparation for the Chris Tomlin concert, I decided to have an Ohio State fair themed Mystery Monday question.

I asked what the most popular fair food is at the Ohio State Fair and, after receiving around 30 guesses from corn dogs to saltwater taffy, I finally got a call from Rosana from Butler correctly guessing deep fried buckeyes.

Our Word of the Day was leitmotif, a noun meaning a dominant recurring theme. You can read more on that here.

Have a great week!

We played Chris Tomlin Song Poetry with these lyrics:

There’s a place where mercy reigns and never dies

There’s a place where streams of grace flow deep and wide

Where all the love I’ve ever found

Comes like a flood, comes flooding down

Travis from Mt. Vernon quickly called in and guessed that those lyrics belonged to Chris Tomlin’s song At The Cross (Love Ran Red) to win a pair of tickets to see Chris Tomlin at the Knox County Fair on August 3rd.
