Game Time Tuesday -2/2

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive!

First, we told you all about the WNZR Valentine’s Banquet that is taking place NEXT Friday, February 12th. You can find all the information on that over here. And make sure you get your tickets soon, because the deadline is THIS Friday!

We played song poetry with the lyrics Look up, see the sun is shining / There’s hope on a new horizon / Calling you. Brendan from Gambier called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belong to You Are Loved by Stars Go Dim.

Our Word of the Day was foliage, a noun meaning a cluster or leaves, flowers, or branches. You can read more on that here.

The Study and Application of Scripture

Today we talked about the habit of studying and applying scripture to our lives.

Some call this ‘dwelling’ in the word.
The book ‘Lead Like Jesus’ offers us some practical tips to create a habit of dwelling in the word.
1 – seek opportunities to HEAR the word
2 – make room to READ the word
3 – find resources that help you STUDY the word
4 – look for passages you can MEMORIZE
5 – find time to MEDITATE on the word

Game Time Tuesday – 1/19

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive!

First, we told you about Happy Bean Coffee coming to MVNU’s Hunter Hall. You can find their Facebook page here.

We played Song Poetry with the lyrics I wanna know You / I wanna find You / In every season / In every moment, and Kristen from Mount Vernon quickly called in and guessed that those lyrics belong to Lauren Daigle’s song First.

Also, Joselyn from Howard was our winner with Name That Tune, which My Lighthouse by Rend Collective.

Our Word of the Day was kerflooey, an adverb meaning to cease functioning, especially suddenly and completely. You can read more on that here.

Praise Thursday – The Habit of Prayer

Today was Praise Thursday on the Afternoon Drive! We continued our topic of habits for the new year by talking about the habit of prayer.

We shared the ACTS Model of Prayer from the book, Lead Like Jesus by Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges:

ADORATION –all prayer should begin here; tell the Lord you love Him and appreciate Him for who He is (I Chronicles 29:11)

CONFESSION – this is where we confess our sins in response to the fact that we adore God (I John 1:9)

THANKSGIVING – this is the heartfelt expression of gratitude to God for all He has done in creation, in redemption and in our lives. (Ephesians 5:19-20)

SUPPLICATION – this is where we sometimes start…but we should finish here. This is simply a big word for asking what you need. (Matthew 7:7)

We need to think about this question: ‘How’s Your Prayer Life?’

Mystery Monday – 12/14

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive!

We took a break from the Mystery Box today since we’re in the middle of the WNZR Christmas Gift Exchange. Congratulations to Barb and Larry, our two winners for today’s show!

Our Christmas Word of the Day was poinsettia, a plant with large, red, pink, or white petals that look like leaves. You can read more on that over here.

Mystery Monday – 12/7

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive!

Since it is Food For The Hungry week, I had a mystery question about Food for the Hungry. I asked how much money and how many truckloads of food were collected in the first ever FFTH drive in 1982. We didn’t receive a winner for this question, but $1,600 and 7 truckloads of food were raised at the 1982 drive.

Mystery Monday

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive.

I hid something in the Mystery Box, and after the hearing, smell, and taste tests, Stephen from Mt. Vernon called in and correctly guessed the item in the box was Chick-fil-a Sauce.

We told you all about the Fredericktown Christmas Walk, which is happening this Saturday from 4 pm – 8 pm in downtown Fredericktown.

Our Word of the Day was advent, a noun meaning both the coming of Christ, or the arrival of a notable person, event, or thing. You can read more on that here.

Mystery Monday – 11/23

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive!

I started off the show with a Mystery Question about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I asked what character has had more balloons than any other character in the history of the parade, and Rhonda from Mount Vernon called in and correctly answered Snoopy. And speaking of parades, make sure you head out to the Mount Vernon Christmas Walk & Parade this Sunday from 1 pm – 5 pm in downtown Mount Vernon. The parade will start at 2:30 pm.

Mystery Monday – 11/16

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive!

Joe hid something in the Mystery Box, and we received several guesses, but Valerie was the lucky winner who guessed that the box contained a pouch of brownie brittle.
