A Thanksgiving Performance and Charity of the Year

For Artist Newsday, Mike talked about what Caleb & John have been up to over the holidays. The duo just performed their debut hit “Hallelujah Feeling”– which has become the highest charting debut single by a new artist this year– in Houston’s H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade! Click here for more about them.

Abby shared that Natalie Grant’s outreach organization, Hope For Justice, was named Charity of the Year at the 5th Annual .ORG Awards. Hope for Justice aims to fight human trafficking and all those affected– and they will receive a donation of $60,000 from the Public Interest Registry along with the award. Natalie Grant has shared that her passion for this cause began after an eye-opening trip to India, which inspired her to become co-founder of Hope for Justice. If you want to read more about this outreach, click here.

But I picked myself back up and I started telling me

No, my God’s not done making me a masterpiece

He’s still working on me

We did not have a winner for today’s Song Poetry…so that means next week will be worth TWO gift cards to Watt’s Restaurant.

Thanks for listening!

Blessed to be a Blessing II

Today we shared more ideas of ways you can bless others during this Christmas season. How we embody the phrase, “Blessed to be a Blessing..”

  • purchase extra dog or cat food and donate it to an animal shelter
  • also consider donating old towels or blankets to those same shelters
  • send a ‘thank you’ card or note to officers at your local police or fire station
  • leave a box of goodies in your mailbox for your mail carrier
  • email or write to a former teacher who made a difference in your life
  • find a blood drive near you and donate (MVNU is hosting one

Name an occasion where parents force their kids to wear a certain outfit.

Blessed to be a blessing – Part 1

Yesterday I was excited to kick off Thanksgiving week with a church service where we talked about blessings and also how to love and serve.

Our pastor shared a list of 100 things we can to do make a difference – how we can embody the term, “Blessed to be a Blessing.” Here are 5 we shared today:

  1. Compliment the first three people to you talk to today
  2. Smile at everyone you come across today
  3. Set an alarm to go off three times today and when it does, stop and take time to pray for someone else
  4. Take some time to clean up outside – even if it’s not your place. Pick up trash at a park, on the sidewalk, etc.
  5. Write a positive review for a local business.

Name something an athlete might ‘break’:

Bone/Body Part (80)
A Record (16)
Bat/Equipment (2)
Rules/The Law (2)

Congratulations to Bob from Howard, who guessed those those top two answers and wins the $5 gift card to Watts Restaurant in Utica.

One Week Until Thanksgiving Special!

Today, Mike and Abby celebrated Thanksgiving early with encouraging verses and fun Thanksgiving facts for the Holiday! They talked about what they like to do on Thanksgiving, as Mike is a big football fan and Abby loves the Dog Show!

Mike shared 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, which says,” Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” He talked about how this verse reminds him to be thankful in all circumstances and that being thankful brings more joy!

Abby shared Psalm 4:7-8 which says, “Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” She shared how encouraging it is to have joy and safety in the Lord. These are certainly things to be thankful for!

Today’s Name That Tune was Hold You Tight by Dan Bremnes! Congrats to Janell from for getting it right! She wins two $5 gift cards to Watts’ restaurant in Utica!

Our final Totally Tasty Tom Turkey Hunt winners were Kristi and Grace they are now registered for a shot at winning a 14-16 pound turkey from Smithisler meats.

Cereals, Fridges and a famous Santa

Who Knew?

  • Are you excited about Raisin Bran Day? In 1925, Skinner’s Manufacturing Company based out of Omaha, Nebraska, introduced the United States to Skinner’s Raisin Bran, the first bran cereal to add raisins into the mix. For several years, Skinner’s held the exclusive right to the name “raisin bran” but that didn’t stop the copycats. Skinner’s took their trademark to court. Despite being the first to trademark the name, Skinner’s lost on the grounds that the words “raisin bran” are merely ingredients. Enjoy a bowl of Raisin bran today to celebrate this special day!
  • It is rumored that National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day was started by the Whirlpool Corporation, an American company that has been making refrigerators since 1955. The actual day, however, only got its start in 1999. The reason for the timing of the event? Mid-November seems to be a good time to do this task just prior to celebrating the winter holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas
  • I was born November 15, 1929 in Kansas City
  • I served in the US Army Signal Corps for two years
  • I studied journalism and drama in college before dropping out
  • I made my TV acting debut in 1957
  • I won seven Emmy Awards, five for the same character, Lou Grant
  • I played Santa Claus in Elf
  • I was the voice of Carl in the Pixar film, Up
  • I died in 2021 at 91 years of age

I am…Ed Asner. Congratulations to Joni from Mount Vernon who wins the $5 gift card to Watts Restaurant in Utica.

Who got registered? Jim and Jennifer, both from Mount Vernon. Congrats!
