This afternoon, Mike and Abby celebrated National Do Something Nice for Someone Else Day!
Abby shared 1 John 3:16-18 which says, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” She shared how doing something nice for someone else can be hard, but is always worth it!
Mike also talked about how his Young Adults Pastor made him feel wanted and appreciated on a missions trip! Mike also shared a verse to help us remember the importance of thanking our pastors for clergy appreciation month! It was 1 Timothy 5:17, “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.” It’s a great reminder to thank and honor your pastor! Today on the show I talked about how today is National Cinnamon Roll Day! I also did our weekly Who am I? trivia question where one lucky person has a chance to win a $5 gift card to Watts Restaurant.
Did you know that cinnamon can be dated back as far back as 2800 BC in Chinese writings? I had no idea either!
Here are some of the notes that I took on National Cinnamon Roll Day:
Did you know that Cinnamon can be dated as far back as 2800 BC in Chinese writings? Cinnamon is known as Cinnamomum verum.
Cinnamon comes from the bark of a tree.
Its botanical name is “amomon” which translates to a fragrant spice plant.
The spice was used for medicinal purposes for healing, such as sore throats or coughing.
The 16th century is when it is believed to have been used in traditional styles of baking.
Cinnamon Rolls are believed to have been founded in Europe after the arrival of cinnamon to the continent.
They didn’t become popular until the country Sweden made them in the early 20th century.
During WWI Swedish people weren’t able to afford the spices, so it wasn’t until after WWI that Sweden was able to afford luxury items like spices.
But it wasn’t until decades later after WWI that cinnamon rolls really started to catch on in Sweden. It became a part of their cultural identity.
Sweden during the wintertime is a very dark and cold country. So in response to this, cinnamon is enjoyed because of the warmth from it.
Many Swedish people have fond memories of coming home after school and enjoying freshly made cinnamon rolls made by their moms and grandmas. And I don’t know about you, but I have several fond memories of making cinnamon rolls in the oven and then eating them with the cream cheese icing melting on top of the rolls!
It wasn’t until 1999 that Cinnamon Roll Day became a thing. It was founded by Kaeth Gardestedt and the Home Baking Council in Sweden.
This day is also celebrated in Finland.
The reason this holiday was created by the Swedes was to build upon their national identity which is associated with this delicious treat.
Get this, anyone guess how many cinnamon rolls the average Swedish person consumes? Well, if you guessed 316 cinnamon rolls a year, you would be the winner! That is an incredible amount of Cinnamon Rolls consumed.

How do we do this? Well, one of the ways you can do this is by going to a local bakery. You could also go to the grocery store to get the supplies to make them.
Learn to Make Cinnamon Rolls
Cinnamon rolls are messy while making them, but they are totally worth it! The ingredients include flour, sugar, eggs, milk, yeast, vanilla extract, and butter. And, of course, the most important ingredient is cinnamon.

This is also a time when you can get to spend time with your friends while eating a delicious cinnamon roll!

In more cinematic news, the movie “Home by Sunday” will dive into the 20 years that Casting Crowns has spent as a band, and the legacy they have had on Christian music. This film will explore the unique beginnings of the group, the inspiration behind one of their most beloved songs, and the near-life-ending diagnosis that impacted their journey.

This afternoon, Mike and Abby had a time of praise for both praise Thursday and the week of student prayer! They both shared encouragement about what God has been doing in their lives lately.
Abby shared about how God has made us fearfully and wonderfully, and how special we are to God with Psalm 139:14 which says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” It’s a great reminder of your value to God!
Mike shared Psalm 63:3-4 and talked about the reasons we have to praise God! It says, “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.”
