New week, new wisdom

How are you building your house? As we approach this week, Xochtil Dixon reminds us of how we can struggle if we build our house on anything other than the solid rock:

“Jesus knew the futility of building a house on sand. After warning the disciples to be wary of false prophets, He assured them that loving obedience demonstrates wisdom (Matthew 7:15–23). He said that everyone who hears His words and “puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (v. 24). The one who hears God’s words and chooses not to put them into practice, however, is “like a foolish man who built his house on sand” (v. 26).

When circumstances feel like shifting sands burying us under the weight of affliction or worries, we can place our hope in Christ, our Rock. He will help us develop resilient faith built on the unshakable foundation of His unchanging character.”

Author Mike Wittmer also encourages us to choose joy when we think from an ‘eternal’ perspective. Read more here.

2023: Try curbing the criticism

From author Kimya Loder in Our Daily Bread:

“We’ve learned to publicly criticize everything from the beliefs people hold to the clothes they wear. The reality, however, is that a critical and unloving attitude doesn’t align with who God has called us to be as believers in Jesus. While there will be times when we have to deal with disagreement, the Bible reminds us that as believers we’re to always conduct ourselves with “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12). Instead of being harshly critical, even of our enemies, God urges us to “bear with each other and forgive one another if [we have] a grievance” (v. 13).

This treatment isn’t limited to the people whose lifestyles and beliefs we agree with. Even when it’s difficult, may we extend grace and love to everyone we encounter as Christ guides us, recognizing that we’ve been redeemed by His love.”

Maybe 2023 can become the year we push back against the social media and gossip culture of criticism…and start leaning on the fruits of the spirit.

Praise God for this wisdom!

One heartbeat…

Today I shared several instances of how I’ve experienced the ‘family of God’ in a very real way. We are so grateful for your prayers and kind words as my father-in-law went to be Jesus last week. Dylan and Jonathon held down the studio so I could be with Marcy during this pivotal moment of her life. Your generous response to Knox County’s Food For The Hungry campaign has been incredible as we’ve surpassed $321,600!

I’m so glad to be part of this family…

Kirsten Holmberg shared recently in ‘Our Daily Bread’ about the heartbeat we share when we experience the story of God. Read it by clicking here.

Today, we talked about how Jordan Feliz came out with a children’s book back in September named after his hit song “Beloved”. You can find the book here!

Also, a more recent news story came from Crowder because his house was chosen for Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” Christmas special on Disney+. Read all about it here!

We also shared stories behind songs that topped our NZ Top Ten throughout the year! Stay tuned Friday because we will share our “Songs of the Year” this Friday for the NZ Top Ten!

Christmas Devotionals

To start this Christmas edition of Praise Thursday I shared a devotional from “The Christmas Story,” it talked about how God brought two totally different groups together when Jesus was born. The first group being local shepherds and the second being the wise men. Showing us that God invites everyone to celebrate the birth of His Son!

Dylan then shared a Christmas Devotional from “Our Daily Bread,” sharing the story about Christmas Eve in 1968 when the Apollo 8 astronauts, who where the first humans to enter lunar orbit, read Genesis 1 during a live broadcast. Years later they were told that broadcast was the “largest audience that had ever listened to a human voice.” Showing us that God gives us an opportunity to share His word and it all comes back to the story of His Son Jesus!

Congrats to Jane from Howard, she was the 9th caller for Christmas Gift Exchange during the show! She is now entered into our Grand Prize drawing, which is tomorrow Friday, December 23rd during The Morning Thing at 7:30am! So don’t forget to tune in!

Thanks for Listening!
