Game Time Tuesday – 11/10

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive!

First, Faith and I told you all about Totally Tasty Tom Turkey Hunt. You can find all the information on that here.

We played Buzzword with the word “cake”, and after several people attempted, Kim from Mount Vernon was our winner!

We also played song poetry with these lyrics: In the face of my depravity / For God so loved the world, He died for me / My fire burns, ‘till He returns / And takes me home beyond the galaxy.

Melody from Mt. Vernon called and correctly answered that those lyrics belong to You Are Not Alone by Owl City and Britt Nicole.

Game Time Tuesday – 10/27

Today was a packed full Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive!

First, we told you all about how you can still register your pastor to win for the last week of Clergy Appreciation Month. Just head over here and tell us why you love your pastor.

We had a round of song poetry using these lyrics:

We can build a shelter for the weak

Rob from Fredericktown called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belong to Tenth Avenue North’s song No Man Is An Island.

We also told you about how you can pick up a doggy goody bag by emailing us a picture of your dog in his/her Halloween costume to wnzr@mvnu.edu. You can find out more information on that over here.

And make sure to mark your calendar for WinterJam 2016! The tour will stop in Columbus at the Schottenstein Center on Saturday, January 9th, in Cincinnati at the U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, February 19th, and at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland on Sunday, February 21st. The tour will feature some amazing artists, like for King & Country, Crowder, Matthew West, Sidewalk Prophets, and many more. Game Time Tuesday – 10/13

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive!

We told you all the information on how you can win tickets to see TobyMac with our Feel It, Film It contest. You can find all the info on that over here.

Then, we played Buzzword, and Matt from Mount Vernon was our winner with the word “pick”.

We played song poetry with the lyrics:

We’re never given the spirit of fear

Game Time Tuesday – Aladdin Jr. & Emergency Preparedness

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive,  and Faith and I gave away some Aladdin Jr. tickets!

We played song poetry with the lyrics, Yeah, it’s like a new day/ Woke up to hear You say/ I came to give you life/ So spread your wings and fly. Lisa from Fredericktown called in and guessed that those lyrics belong to Jamie Grace’s song Do Life Big.

We had a buzzword stumper for the word “after”.

We also told you it was Get Ready Day, a day where we are reminded to make emergency preparedness plans. You can read more on that day here. We also told you about this website, where you can find tons of information on how to plan, and what exactly you should even plan for.

Our Word of the day was viridity, a noun meaning innocence. You can read more on that here.

Chris Tomlin Game Time Tuesday

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive, and we had a special version of Song Poetry.

We played Chris Tomlin Song Poetry with these lyrics:

     There’s a place where mercy reigns and never dies

     There’s a place where streams of grace flow deep and wide

     Where all the love I’ve ever found

     Comes like a flood, comes flooding down

Travis from Mt. Vernon quickly called in and guessed that those lyrics belonged to Chris Tomlin’s song At The Cross (Love Ran Red) to win a pair of tickets to see Chris Tomlin at the Knox County Fair on August 3rd. We’ll be playing Chris Tomlin Song Poetry on the Afternoon Drive and Morning thing all this week and next week for your chance to win a pair of tickets, so make sure to keep listening.

We had a Buzzword stumper with the word French.

Our Word of the Day was histrionic, an adjective meaning theatrical. You can read more on that over here.

We also talked about junk food, in celebration of today being Junk Food Day. You can read more on the holiday over here, and find the list we shared of extreme junk food over here.

Game Time Tuesday – NYC, Concerts, and the Hillsong Movie

It was Game Time Tuesday on today’s Afternoon Drive!

We started off with song poetry with these lyrics:

I also told you about some concerts from some of our favorite artists. You can catch Chris Tomlin in concert at the Ohio State Fair on Monday, August 3rd at 7 pm. Tickets are $23 and you can get them over here. You can also sees Newsboys in Columbus at the Palace Theater on Saturday, December 5th at 6 pm. You can find out more information on that concert here.

Plus, I told you about the Hillsong UNITED movie, Hillsong: Let Hope Rise, that is releasing this fall. The movie hits theaters September 30th, and you can check out their website over here for the trailer, information about the film, and to meet the band.

Game Time Tuesday – July 7th

It was Game Time Tuesday on today’s Afternoon Drive!

We played Buzzword and Song Poetry. Our Buzzword was “body” and Evelyn from Mount Vernon quickly called in and won a Ginny Owens CD.

We also played song poetry with these lyrics:

     I won’t fear what tomorrow brings

     With each morning I’ll rise and sing

     My God’s love will lead me through

We didn’t have a Song Poetry winner, but those lyrics belong to Rend Collective’s My Lighthouse. You can check out that song here.

We talked about Chocolate Day and Global Forgiveness Day, which are both today. The best way to celebrate would be to combine the two and send a delicious chocolate treat to someone you need to forgive.

Our Word of the Day was nostrum, a noun meaning a questionable remedy or scheme. You can read more about that here.

We told you our Big Blue Crew will be going on the road THIS Saturday, July 11th for Christmas in July. Miriam Hayslett and Annabelle Harray will be traveling to different collection points throughout Mount Vernon from 10 am – 12 pm to give you live updates on what is happening. Click here to see what items are needed most and the complete list of collection sites.

Joe also shared some recipes for a couple different casseroles he made for our summer staff, and I highly recommend trying both of them. Here they are:

Crock Pot Bread Breakfast Casserole

10 eggs
2.5 cups of milk
8-10 slices of buns or bread, broken into bite-sized pieces
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups cheddar jack cheese
2 cups diced ham (or crumbled sausage or bacon)
FYI – 1/2 cup of green pepper and/or onion is also optional in the recipe

1. Prep the Crock Pot with cooking spray
2. In a bowl, combine the eggs, milk, salt and pepper; blend until mixed together
3. Layer the bottom of the pot with half of the bread, then layer in half (1 cup) of the ham, then half of the cheese
4. Put the rest of the bread in the pot, then layer in the rest of the ham and cheese
5. Pour the egg mixture over everything
6. Put the lid on the Crock Pot; cook on low for a minimum of 4 hours

French Toast Casserole

8 eggs

2.5 cups milk

10 slices of buns or bread, broken into bite-sized pieces

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

handful of additional brown sugar to sprinkle over the top before baking

1. Prep a 9×13 pan with cooking spray

2. Mix the brown sugar and butter in a stove top pan, mixing until blended and syrupy

3. Combine eggs, milk and vanilla in a bowl; whisk until blended

3. Layer the bottom of the pan with the hot brown sugar/butter mix

4. Put the bread across the pan evenly, about 1 1/2-2 inches high

5. Pour the egg mixture over everything; make sure all bread is coated

6. Sprinkle cinnamon over the mixture

7. Cover and put in the fridge overnight

8. Next morning, uncover, sprinkle brown sugar over the top

9. Bake at 450 degrees for 30 minutes

10. Serve with syrup if desired

On today’s Afternoon Drive, we gave you everything you need to know about our Take Dad To Dinner promotion.

With Father’s Day coming up in just under 2 weeks, we want you to tell us why you love your dad and why you want to take him to dinner. Just go over to our website (click here) and click on the Take Dad to Dinner banner for the entry form. Then, on Friday, June 19th, the Morning Thing will share some of these messages on-air and then draw 4 lucky dads to win some awesome prizes! Each winning dad will receive a $25 gift certificate to Jake’s Restaurant located on Coshocton Avenue in Mount Vernon. They’ll also get an NIV Bible and will have the chance to choose 2 prizes from a our special Father’s Day prize stash, courtest of Gospel Supply Shop, including:

  • A perpetual calendar with 366 inspirational messages

It was also Game Time Tuesday and we had a Buzzword stumper with the word “Bill”.

Our word of the day was pica, which is an abnormal desire to eat substances that are not normally eaten, such as chalk. Joe read a little bit from an article about pica that we got from kidshealth.org. You can check out the entire article here.
