WNZR Listeners’ Favorite Christmas Songs!

There is no NZ Top 10 this week! Instead, we took your Christmas song requests all afternoon long!

We heard requests from Darcy and Laurie for ‘Silent Night,’ Karen for ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,’ and Tracy for ‘The Christmas Shoes.’

Fun fact: Darcy shared that her grandfather used to sing ‘Silent Night’ to her in German when she was a child. Laurie also shared that her grandmother, also from Germany, used to do the same thing!

Also today, we got to ask Chris Tomlin what some of his favorite Christmas songs are!

Chris told us he loves the old hymns, like “Angels, We Have Heard on High,” and “Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel.” We got to listen to some of these during the show today! Listen to Ethan’s conversation with Chris on our Soundcloud page!

Congratulations to our winners in the WNZR Christmas Gift Exchange! Find the list here!

Thank you for listening!

Tours and Talk Shows!

This week, we explored one of the most highly anticipated tours in Christian music coming up next year and we also checked in on the crazy year that Amy Grant has had!

This past Friday, Chris Tomlin and Hillsong UNITED announced their upcoming joint tour for 2022! The “Tomlin UNITED” Tour will kick off in Greensboro, North Carolina on February 9th. The tour in all will reach 33 venues all across America before ending in Duluth, GA on April 13th.

Tickets for the tour go on sale October 22nd and will be available at tomlinunited.com. A date to remember for this tour is when the group will be in Columbus on Friday, February 18th at Nationwide Arena.

Even four decades since beginning her career, Amy Grant has continued her very successful year by performing live for The Kelly Clarkson Show on NBC. The six time Grammy Winner sang her 90s track “Good For Me” on the show, a show which has been extremely popular lately as the highest rated talk show to debut in 7 years.

This, however, was just a glimpse at the kind of year Amy has had after being inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame for the Class of 2021. She is also wrapping up her 42 city fall tour and preparing for the Christmas season where she will appear in several shows with Michael W. Smith. For more information, make sure to visit AmyGrant.com.

I have tasted
All that this world has to offer
The here and gone that leaves you wanting more
But can’t satisfy

This song was a stumper! So come back next week for a chance at TWO $5 gift cards to Everlasting Cup!

Thanks for listening!

Fingerprints of God: Creation

Good afternoon! Today, we continued our series on the Fingerprints of God!
We’d like you to leave us a comment on what part of creation you love most! Let us know what part of creation just leaves you speechless!
For me, it’s a beautiful sunset, and for Joe, it’s snowflakes!

We read Genesis chapter 1, and it really lays the baseline for creation.
“And God saw that it was good.”
Read the story of creation here

We read from Job 12 today, and this chapter is just an incredible reminder that God holds the world in His hands. He is powerful and He is faithful even in the midst of trial.
Job 12:10 says:
“In his hand is the life of every creature

and the breath of all mankind.”
If you’d like to read the whole chapter, which I strongly encourage, check it out here!

We focused on two songs today that went along with the theme of creation, and those songs were Indescribable from Chris Tomlin and Overwhelmed from Big Daddy Weave.

When we played Indescribable, I read some of the program notes I wrote when my elementary choir performed this my senior year of High School. Here’s a bit of it…
“Indescribable – adjective – too unusual, extreme, or indefinite to be adequately described. That is a perfect word to describe our perfect God. Indescribable, uncontainable, amazing, all powerful, and all the other adjectives that Chris Tomlin uses in this song make the point that our God is truly amazing.”
Check out the song here!

We also looked at the song Overwhelmed, and the opening lyrics of this song point straight at the glory and majesty of God.
“I see the work of Your Hands
Galaxies spin in a Heavenly dance oh God
All that You are is so overwhelming”
Take a listen to the whole song here

In animals, we see patterns and we see the work of Gods hand. In a ram, we see the spirals of the horn that grow with age, like the rings in trees that you can count to see how old they are. Check out this article from FaithHub that goes into further detail on this here!

Also, the universe is proclaiming the name of God through its’ vastness and incomprehensibility. Did you know that the Andromeda galaxy is our closest galactic neighbor? It’s roughly 2.5 million light-years away. It’s 140,000 light-years across, but it isn’t bright enough to be seen in the night sky by our eyes. If it were brighter, it would appear six times larger than the full moon!
There was a video I saw a while ago at the Creation Museum, and it talked about how complex and incredible our universe actually is.
I highly encourage you to check this out. It’s a 22-minute video, but it’s well worth your time. Check it out here!

Our word of the day today was very relevant! It was ‘overwhelm‘. [oh-ver-hwelm]
This is a verb and it means: to overcome completely in mind or feeling.

I’m so thankful for an overwhelming and indescribable God today!
Thanks so much for listening!

Game Time Tuesday – 8/4

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive.

We played song poetry with these lyrics:

Could it possibly be
That we simply can’t believe
That this unconditional
Kind of love would be enough

Josiah from Sunbury called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belonged to MercyMe’s song Flawless.

Joe talked about the Chris Tomlin concert at the Ohio State fair that he and some of our staff got to attend. You can see all the pictures from that by clicking here.

We also told you that our Big Blue Crew will be on the road at August First Friday, the Hartford Fair, and the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival. You can find out all the information on those events over here.

Our word of the day was luminaria, a noun that is a traditional Mexican Christmas lantern. You can read more on that here.

Have a terrific Tuesday evening!

-Jess
