No Matter What…Give Him Praise!

Easier said than done, huh? We can say this and repeat it to ourselves and others as much as we want…sometimes it just doesn’t help.

It’s Praise Thursday on The Afternoon Drive, and we’re trying to remind ourselves to give thanks in ALL circumstances.

Yep, even when we don’t feel like it, HE is worthy of praise!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

If you’re finding yourself tired, burnt out and maybe just plain over it all, remember that God is always there to lift you up when you need Him.

Today’s track was “Running Back To You” by Seph Schlueter, correctly named by Rochelle from Mount Vernon! She wins TWO $5 Gift Cards to Watts Restaurant since last week’s was a stumper!

Getting You To The Finish Line!

When you just want it to be Friday, Thursday can feel like the longest day ever. If you need that boost of encouragement to get to the finish line, we’ve got you covered!

It’s Praise Thursday on The Afternoon Drive, so of course we’ve got to give you some motivation to finish the week strong!

  • My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you—
    I whom you have delivered.Psalm 71:23
  • But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.Psalm 13:5-6

These verses are the perfect reminders of the help and hope the Lord provides. If you’re struggling and need help, the Lord will always hear your cry.

“In The Eye of the Storm” by Ryan Stevenson is fantastic song about turning to God in the middle of despair:

“In the eye of the storm (yeah, yeah)
You remain in control (yes you do, Lord)
In the middle of the war
You guard my soul
You alone are the anchor
When my sails are torn
Your love surrounds me (Your love surrounds me)
In the eye of the storm (in the eye of the storm)”

A stumper this week! Next week’s Name That Tune will be worth TWO $5 Watts Restaurant Gift Cards!

Finding Joy in Tough Moments

You’ve heard it before. I know, I know, it’s extremely cliché. But life is hard. Sometimes, its really hard. When it gets hard, what do we do? To be completely honest, I haven’t quite figured that part out. But what I have figured out is that when things feel overwhelming, the one place to turn where peace is always guaranteed is.

It’s Praise Thursday here on The Afternoon Drive, and if life has you down lately, you definitely aren’t alone. I’ve found it draining just getting through the week. But thankfully, we have a source that is the ultimate provider of joy:

“Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV)

When you feel overwhelmed with worry, anxiety or just exhaustion, remember that the source of true strength is not found in yourself, but in the Lord.

We also had some fun sharing weird, but very true facts, including Neil Armstrong selling his hair for $3,000. Wish I could sell mine for that much…

Today’s track was “Never Get Used To This” by Forrest Frank and JVKE. Congrats to Terry from Mount Vernon for naming the right tune. Since last week’s was a stumper, he wins TWO $5 Watts Restaurant Gift Cards!

Running Back To Him!

When we need rest and a reminder of who we truly are, the Father’s arms are always open wide for us to run back to you.

It’s time for a little Monday Motivation on The Afternoon Drive, and we think that Seph Schlueter’s “Running Back To You” is the perfect example of a reminder of finding our hope and rest in the Lord! When we feel lost, confused, anxious, tired…whatever it is, God will ALWAYS be there for us, no matter what.

“When I’m drowning in questions, when I’ve lost the path
Your love is the answer as You’re calling me back

Back to the table, back to my home
Back to my Father who never lets go
Whatever I’m facing, I know what to do
With my arms wide open, I’m running to back to You”

Let these words be a reminder of where to go when you don’t know where to turn.

Name the most common snack you’d find at a ball park:

-Hamburgers-Top choice in 13 states

-Popcorn-favorite in 7 states

-Nachos-top choice in 5 states

-Hot dog- The favorite in OHIO!

Congratulations to Bob from Howard, he named Hot Dog as one of the top four choices! He wins the $5 Watts Restaurant Gift Card!

Jesus…The Ultimate Example of Finding God in Unexpected Places.

Sometimes, when we expect God to show up…He doesn’t. But just not in the way we thought He would. Oftentimes we think God is going to work things the way we want them. Yet time and time again, we see things work out in completely unexpected ways…that sometimes are so much better than we could have every originally imagined!

It’s Praise Thursday on The Afternoon Drive, and today we got to share about God showing up in the most unexpected places, whether that be in our own lives or the lives of others.

Sometimes, we find God through a book found in a Goodwill: https://guideposts.org/inspiring-stories/finding-god-in-unexpected-places/

Maybe it’s in your local pharmacy: https://christiantoday.com.au/news/finding-god-in-unexpected-places.html

Or maybe we want to look at the word of God itself to see where He shows up!: https://proverbs31.org/read/devotions/full-post/2022/05/02/experiencing-gods-presence-in-unexpected-places

No matter where you are in life, remember that God will always be with you, and will not forget you.

Deuteronomy 31:8: The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Who Influences You?

Who’s setting the example for you? Or who are you setting the example for?

It’s National Set A Good Example Day for Who Knew Wednesday on The Afternoon Drive, and we all have people who influence our lives everyday. Whether it’s our parents, spouse, kids, coach, or even people on social media and other entertainment, somebody or something is influencing us every single day of our lives.

We have to be incredibly mindful in choosing who we follow and who we watch…they can have an endearing impact on us, good and bad!

Be the influence in someone’s life that lifts them up and encourages them, and follow the example of those that encourage and have encouraged you!

Finding Reasons To Give Thanks!

When we come to the end of a year and begin a new one, it becomes pretty easy to reflect on the good, and the bad, of the past year. But instead of brushing the old year off and eagerly embracing the new one, it’s important to remember how far we’ve come. Every heartbreak, every rough time, every difficult…you made it through. You still have breath in your lungs, you still have a new year, a fresh start to look forward to. God, through His amazing grace, brought you through those tough moments…and He will continue to do so.

A stumper today! Make sure to tune in next week for Name That Tune, because next week’s game will be worth TWO $5 Watts Restaurant Gift Cards!

There’s Something Different About Christmas

Maybe it’s the lights, maybe it’s the fresh blanket of now…or maybe it’s the love of Christ!

It’s Praise Thursday on the Afternoon Drive, and we just had to talk about this…Christmas time really seems to bring put kindness and joy out of most people, and sometimes we see moments of God’s incredible love and kindness shining through people. One moment I saw as a kid was when my dad gave a whole pizza he had bought for our family to a homeless man during Christmas time. What’s yours?

Other acts of random kindness around the holidays are always so cool to hear! You check out these funny, uplifting and even touching stories of people’s kindness! https://www.buzzfeed.com/lds/random-acts-of-holiday-kindness

Today’s tune was “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” by Downhere. Congratulations to Caitlin from Mount Vernon for naming the right track! She wins the $5 Gift Card to Watts Restaurant in Utica!
