Game Time Tuesday – 3/22

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive!

We started off the show with song poetry using these lyrics: I’ll surrender to the power / Of being crushed by love / Till the beauty that was hidden/ Isn’t covered up. Kristen from Mount Vernon called in and guessed that those lyrics belong to Hawk Nelson’s song Diamonds.

Our winner for Name That Tune was Sherrisa from Howard who guessed that the clip we played belonged to Dara Maclean’s song Wanted.

Our Word of the Day was affinal, an adjective meaning related by or concerning marriage. You can read more on that here.

And make sure to head over here for all the information on Lifeline 2016, which kicks off one week from tomorrow!

Have a terrific Tuesday evening!

March 1st! Super Tuesday?  Call it Rainy Tuesday here in Knox County…but it’s not getting us down. We have a new partner on board for the All Request Drive Home – Troyer’s of Apple Valley. You can click their name to find out more about their business. Thanks to Troyer’s for supporting WNZR and the Afternoon Drive!

We had fun today giving out prizes, including a Hillsong CD and a $5 gift card to Troyer’s for our music games. Song Poetry today was from ‘Hanging On’ by Britt Nicole, while Name That Tune’s :10 clip was ‘All Things Possible’ by Mark Schultz.

I’m flying solo this week as the ladies enjoy time off for spring break.  Here’s more from Jess and her adventures…

Monday was day 2 of my spring break road trip – go check out yesterday’s blog to read all about day 1! We spent pretty much the whole day exploring Asheville, North Carolina. We started our day off with some of the best doughnuts I’ve ever had, including a white chocolate raspberry one that was AMAZING, at Vortex Doughnuts. Then, we headed over to the Asheville arts district and found an entire graffiti village, which we spent about an hour just walking through and taking tons of photos and videos. Next, we spent a few hours just walking around downtown, checking out some cool local shops and taking fun pictures. After a very long day in Asheville, we drove a little over 2 hours to get to Charlotte where we’re staying for the night. Tomorrow, we’re headed off to Wilmington to check out some filming locations from one of our favorite shows, One Tree Hill!

Please continue to pray for Faith as she and a group of MVNU students work in Belize!

Tomorrow we’re talking about the lost art of being a gentleman…don’t miss it!

Word of the Day today is appropriate for Super Tuesday – PUNDIT, a noun meaning a person who knows a lot about a particular subject and who expresses ideas and opinions about that subject publicly (such as by speaking on television and radio shows).

Thanks for listening and stay dry!

Twinkies & Game Time Tuesday

Today, we did something a little different for Game Time Tuesday – we made it all about Twinkies!

We gave you some different recipes involving Twinkies:

TWINKIE GRASSHOPPER (serves 3-4)

Things you’ll need:

  • 2 1/3 cups milk
  • 6 Twinkies
  • 4 chocolate-covered mint cookies
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream

In a blender, combine 2 cups of the milk and the Twinkies and blend for 5 to 10 seconds. Add the cookies and syrup and blend until smooth, then add the ice cream and blend until smooth once again. Pour in the remaining 1/3 cup milk and blend until thoroughly mixed. Serve immediately.

PINEAPPLE TWINKIE PUDDING (serves 8)

Things you’ll need:

  • 6 Twinkies
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup drained canned crushed pineapple in juice
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, cut into pieces

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Butter a 9-inch pie pan and dust with flour. Tear each Twinkie into 6 pieces and place in a bowl. Add the beaten eggs and mix gently to coat. Blend in the pineapple and butter, then spoon into the prepared pan. Place in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until lightly browned. Allow to stand for 5 minutes before serving.

TWINKIE BANANA SPLIT (serves 4)

Things you’ll need:

  • 4 Twinkies
  • 4 bananas, halved lenghtwise
  • 1 quart vanilla ice cream
  • 1 jar strawberry topping
  • 1 jar pineapple topping
  • 1 cup frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/2 cup chopped cashews
  • 4 maraschino cherries

Place 1 Twinkie in each of 4 banana split dishes and arrange a banana half on either side of each Twinkie. Place 2 scoops of ice cream with each Twinkie. Top with the strawberry and pineapple toppings and a dollop of whipped topping. Sprinkle on the cashews and top with a cherry. Serve immediately.

(Recipes are from The Twinkies Cookbook)

Since we shared some recipes about Twinkies, we decided to play some games and give away a couple prize bags featuring banana flavored Twinkies!

We played song poetry with the lyrics I’m a brand new man in a foreign land / I’m a man who’s feelin’ that fire / And it’s all so clear when I’m standing here at the peak of my desire. Jane from Mount Vernon called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belong to TobyMac’s song Burn For You.

Also, Rodney from Gambier won Name That Tune, which was Hope Is What We Crave by For King & Country.

Our Word of the Day was peccadillo, a noun meaning a slight offense. You can read more on that here.

Cold? Yes! Really cold? Maybe…

Today we shared some facts about the cold.  Let’s face it…the weather is cold around Ohio today, but it could be like 1899.

The cold snap that covered the USA from February 1-14, 1899 is known as the Great Arctic Outbreak.  The Weather Channel shared some facts from that two-week span:

  • EVERY state in the Union (45 at that time) had at least one day where the temperature was below zero.
  • Tallahassee, Florida, dipped to -2 on February 13, 1899, the only subzero low in the city’s history. This remains the all-time record low for Florida.
  • All-time record lows were set in 12 states.
  • Temperatures dipped as low as -61 in Montana.
  • Cape May, New Jersey got 34 inches of snow from February 11-14.
  • Engineers said trusses on the Brooklyn Bridge contracted 14 feet!

So…maybe it’s not that cold, after all?  Okay, yea.  It’s cold.

Congratulations to Cheryl, who won Song Poetry by guessing the lyrics we shared belonged to Natalie Grant for ‘Perfect People.’

Today’s Word of the Day was PERIPATETIC (pair-uh-puh-TET-ik), an adjective describing someone who walks or travels about.

Thanks for listening!

Are you kvelling today?

151129-christmas parade 2015-40No, that’s not a typo…KVELL was our word of the day.  It’s a Yiddish and Middle German word that means ‘to feel happy and proud.’  Pronounced just like it sounds: kuh-VELL. So are you feeling happy or proud today? Marcy sure was in this picture from the MV Christmas Parade!

Today’s Song Poetry was a stumper, so we’ll carry it over to next week:

Suddenly it’s like a weight is lifted, when you hear the words that you are loved!
He knows where you are and where you’ve been…
and you never have to go there again.

Thanks for listening!

-Joe
