Mystery Monday, Fair-style!

dsc03774Here’s Joe preparing to sample some lamb meatballs while judging at the annual
Knox County Fair lamb cook-off Sunday.

This week we’re live at the Knox County Fair bringing you updates and interviews.  Today’s Mystery Monday question also had to do with the fair’s history:

The land where the Knox County Fairgrounds sits was purchased by the Knox County Commissioners in 1928 for $9,000.  What year was the current grandstand built?

The answer? 1932…and it was erected by the Mount Vernon Bridge Company.  Read more about Knox County Fair history by clicking here. Congratulations to Karolyn of Mount Vernon who won the $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley.

We also gave away a pair of tickets to see Lecrae at the Ohio State Fair this Thursday, July 28th. Congratulations to Lori from Mount Vernon who won the tickets. We’ll give away our last pair tomorrow!

Our Word of the Day today was pantechnicon, which is a British noun meaning a moving van or a furniture van.

Thanks for listening!

Mystery Monday – Fairs, Food, and Chris Tomlin

Today was the first day almost back to normal for the Afternoon Drive.

We were On The Road at the Knox County Fair all last week and you can see all the pictures and videos from that over here on our Facebook page.

It was also Mystery Monday, and since Joe Rinehart was On The Road with Big Blue and the rest of our crew at the Ohio State Fair in preparation for the Chris Tomlin concert, I decided to have an Ohio State fair themed Mystery Monday question.

I asked what the most popular fair food is at the Ohio State Fair and, after receiving around 30 guesses from corn dogs to saltwater taffy, I finally got a call from Rosana from Butler correctly guessing deep fried buckeyes.

Our Word of the Day was leitmotif, a noun meaning a dominant recurring theme. You can read more on that here.

Have a great week!

Who Knew? Fair stuff! 7/22/15

270754_193986810650953_651394_nToday I spent some time talking about fair season, specifically the costs associated with going to the Knox County Fair and the Ohio State Fair.

The Knox County Fair will have a FREE rides night this Saturday from 6 to 10pm thanks to a generous sponsor. Starting Sunday, the daily cost for the fair is $7 (ages 9-senior citizens). Friday 7/31 is $10 due to the country concert with the Swon Brothers. Seniors entering before 5pm each day get in for $3 with their Golden Buckeye Card.

Kids 8 and under are free admission, but still pay for rides (don’t forget that!)

Veterans with their driver’s license ID get in free on Thursday 7/30 before 5pm.

Your best bet is to get a season pass, which is $25 for adults 18-seniors, $20 for seniors with their GBC, and $17 for ages 8-17. Find out more here at the official fair website.

The Ohio State Fair prices are listed at this link on their website.

Today’s WORD OF THE DAY was homonymous (ho-MON-ih-mus), meaning something ambiguous or having the same designation.

Thanks for listening!

-Joe

Chris Tomlin Game Time Tuesday

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive, and we had a special version of Song Poetry.

We played Chris Tomlin Song Poetry with these lyrics:

There’s a place where mercy reigns and never dies

There’s a place where streams of grace flow deep and wide

Where all the love I’ve ever found

Comes like a flood, comes flooding down

Travis from Mt. Vernon quickly called in and guessed that those lyrics belonged to Chris Tomlin’s song At The Cross (Love Ran Red) to win a pair of tickets to see Chris Tomlin at the Knox County Fair on August 3rd. We’ll be playing Chris Tomlin Song Poetry on the Afternoon Drive and Morning thing all this week and next week for your chance to win a pair of tickets, so make sure to keep listening.

We had a Buzzword stumper with the word French.

Our Word of the Day was histrionic, an adjective meaning theatrical. You can read more on that over here.

We also talked about junk food, in celebration of today being Junk Food Day. You can read more on the holiday over here, and find the list we shared of extreme junk food over here.

Make sure you head over here for all the information on the Knox County Fair and to register your family for all the different prizes we’ll be giving away.

Mystery Monday – Joe’s Return

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive, and it was also Joe’s long-awaited return!

We played Mystery Box and, after several guesses, Eric from Fredericktown called in and correctly guessed the item was a cherry Air Head.

We recapped our trip to the Utica Community VBS kickoff yesterday. You can find pictures, a recap video, plus the video Joe and I talked about where Wesley and I competed in Slurping for Snakes over here.

Our Word of the Day was hobbyhorse, a stick with a imitation horse’s head on it. You can read more about that here.

Plus, head over here to register your family for all the awesome prizes we are giving away next week at the Knox County Fair.

Have a great week!
