Today’s Monday Motivation includes a reminder about our need for God from Pastor David Platt and Peter Chin’s devotional from Our Daily Bread, called ‘Not Second Rate.” Click here to read it.
In his book, Radical, Platt writes, “In the gospel, God reveals the depth of our need for him. He shows us that there is absolutely nothing we can do to come to him. We can’t manufacture Salvation…we can’t program Salvation…and we can’t produce Salvation. We can’t even initiate it.”
“God has to open our eyes, set us free, overcome our evil and come to us. This is the beauty of the gospel.” He did come to us, in the person of Jesus!
As long as you and I understand Salvation as a “checking off of boxes” to get to God, we will find ourselves in this meaningless sea of world religions that actually condemn the human race by exalting our supposed ability to get to God. On the other hand, when you and I realize that we are dead in sin and deserving of God’s wrath, with no way out on our own, we begin to discover our desperate need for Christ.
Our understanding of who God is (and who we are) dramatically affects our understanding of who Christ is and why we need him.

This weekend, our community at MVNU experienced tremendous loss…four people directly to our campus passed away. Both Todd and I were impacted because we have friendships with the families who lost loved ones.
So…what do we do with that grief? Author Amy Peterson shares her thoughts in this Monday Motivation devotional.
Today we shared some encouraging words from author Xochitl Dixon about establishing an atmosphere of gratitude. Making sure we’re expressing thanks for what God has done and what others around us do to enrich our lives.
Today’s Monday Motivation starts with a ‘accidental’ type of prayer that turned into a tradition…read about ‘Haystack Prayers’ from Our Daily Bread by clicking here.
Today we shared Monday Motivation from the story of Joseph in Genesis – the Joseph who had the coat of many colors…was sold by his brothers into slavery…became favored in the Pharoah’s palace…ran from Potiphar’s wife, was falsely accused, but still went to jail…but found favor by interpreting the warden’s dreams…then saved Egypt from famine…reunited with his brothers and forgave them!
What can we learn from Joseph?
we often don’t see life’s shocks coming
keep your eyes fixed on God, especially throughout the twists and turns we can’t forsee
run from sin
use your abilities for what God is doing in the world
in everything, our soul’s enemy means it for evil, but God means it for good
be careful what you allow to become the defining moment of your life
God specializes in redeeming messed-up situations, bringing salvation where there was only destruction
