Mystery Monday!

Today Malisa, Joe and I gave you a chance to win a $5 gift card to Troyers of Apple Valley with mystery box! Today Joe hid an item and Malisa and I had to guess by doing some tests of the senses.

We started with our first hearing test. Malisa and I shook the mystery box…Here are the two questions that Malisa and I asked Joe after we did our hearing research.

  1. Is this item made out of fabric?

Joe’s Answer: Part of it is, not the core, but part of it.

2. Is it top heavy or bottom heavy?

Joe’s Answer: I would say that it is bottom heavy because that’s where the fabric part is.

Then we did a second hearing test, this time Malisa and I closed our eyes and Joe took the mystery item…here are the questions we asked:

  1. Is it a bell?

Joe’s Answer: Nope!

2.  Is there a part that is metal?

Joe’s Answer: Yes, the core of it is.

Then we did the touch test, here are the questions we asked:

  1. Is this item used to strengthen a part of your body?

Joe’s Answer: Yes

2. Is this item something that you can hold in one hand?

Joe’s Answer: Yes

Congratulations to Kassandra from Gambier…she correctly guessed that our item was a hand grip! She won that $5 gift card to Troyer’s of Apple Valley that I mentioned earlier.

Here is a picture of our mystery item: (and no, I am not licking our item) e

Special thanks to Jenna Potts, Rachel Rinehart and Lilly for helping today and to Carissa Bush for being our awesome host teacher!

The Mystery of the Cheese Doodle

Maybe it should be called “orange fingers day,” but we celebrate the cheesy, poofy, crunchy snack today.

The National Day Calendar shares this information:

“The actual inventor of Cheese Doodles is under debate. Generally, the credit goes to a man named Morrie Yohai who made a variety of extruded snack foods in the 1940s for his family’s company called Old London Foods. Other sources show patents for similar products in the 1930s and still other competing accounts in Wisconsin and in New Orleans as well.”

Frito-Lay says it produces Cheetos in 22 countries and there are 50 different flavors! They include Fizzy Pepsi Cheetos in Japan, Japanese Steak in China, Ketchup Cheetos in Poland and Strawberry Cheetos in Russia.

Today’s Mystery Question: How many cows does it take to make a year’s worth of Cheetos?

The answer, according to Frito-Lay’s communications office, is 5,000! A year-long production run requires 11 million gallons of milk, or 10 million pounds of cheddar cheese used in the Cheetos seasoning. WHOA.

Congratulations to Daniel of Mount Vernon, who wins the $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley!

Thanks for listening!

From the touch test, we learned exactly what it was!|
Congratulations to Linda from Utica!
It was a soap bar shaped like a gemstone!
Pretty neat Christmas gift I got from my friend Megan : )

Our word of the day today was…
