Look up and see the cross!

Today’s Monday Motivation comes from Anne Wilson and her collaboration with Chris Tomlin, ‘The Cross.’

Anne shared this message on her Facebook and Instagram pages this summer, explaining how she hopes it inspires listeners to turn back to God:

“A rebel knows who paid the price for her mistakes,” Wilson said. “1 Peter 2:24 says, ‘He Himself bore our sins and His body on the tree, so that having died to sin we might live for righteousness. By His wounds, you have been healed.’”

“I wrote the song ‘The Cross’ on my new album as a reminder of what Jesus did for us — that He gave up His life so that we can have life in and through Him,” she continued. “And I want to remind all of you that no matter what you have done, no matter how far you have run from God, that it is never too late to come back to Him. He loves you so much, and He gave up everything to give you everything.”

The Rock on Which I Stand

Cody Carnes’ ‘Firm Foundation’ is our Monday Motivation song today.

Here’s what Cody shared about the inspiration behind the song: “In such a shaky season, it was burning in my heart to write a song that declared what Jesus teaches us in Matthew 7. It says, Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. The world can be in chaos all outside our windows, but when we build our house on Jesus, we can have confidence knowing that our foundation is secure. We’re not going down! This song celebrates that truth. It was me singing my way out of fear by declaring a truth! I pray it blesses you.”

You’ve got me on the edge!

TobyMac and Cochren and Co. teamed up in 2019 for what I like to call a great ‘driving song…’ Edge of My Seat. But this song is less about driving and more about, as Toby shares, posture.

He shares, “This song is about posture and the way we take our days on. You can either sit back – arms crossed, eyes rolled – wondering what this day is going to hold, but you’re sort of jaded to it.

Or there’s the other posture which is out on the edge of your seat where you’re wide-eyed in wonder of what God is going to do with that day. You’re hoping. There’s anticipation. You’re on the edge of your seat, and your posture is different – like a child thinking ‘whatcha gonna do with this day, Lord? Let’s go.'”

Running back to the table, back to our hope!

Seph Schlueter’s (SHLEE-tur) new song, ‘Running Back to You,’ is our Monday Motivation song today. The Erie, Ohio native shares this about his latest release:
“This song is one of wanting people to understand the joy and freedom that comes from knowing the Gospel, knowing what Jesus did. The Gospel literally means good news, but for too much of the church, we think it’s just okay news. But this is the best news ever!
Romans tells us the Gospel is the power of salvation to all who believe that it literally brought us from death to life, from slavery to freedom, and we get to live in that reality now. And it’s so exciting, it’s such a joyful thing. And so, ‘Running Back To You’ is a reminder that no matter where we’ve been, no matter how far we’ve wandered, the beauty of the Gospel is that we have a God who welcomes us in with open arms, who calls us back to the table, and who still loves us.”

Let’s come back to the table…and come back to hope!

Seeing the creator’s hand…everywhere.

Today’s Monday Motivation song is Leanna Crawford’s ‘How Can You Not?’ Inspired by, believe it or not, fireflies (or, some might say, lightning bugs).

Leanna shares, “I actually wrote that song…(while) my parents were visiting me in Nashville. My sister and I moved there together five years ago, and we moved from the good old northwest. And in the northwest there are no fireflies, but of course in this part of the country, fireflies everywhere. And so not growing up with them, I just think it’s the coolest thing every summer, every year to see them. Well, my dad had never seen fireflies and they were going to be there. My parents were there for a whole week.
And during firefly season, the height of it, and we were about to see some fireflies. I don’t know where they were. We went on walks every single night, not a single firefly was found. The night before, they’re about to fly home where there’s no fireflies. So sad. We go for one final walk and we are walking by this field, and I’ve walked by this field like 100 times, and I’d never seen anything like this. It lit up. It looked like stars were in the field just full of fireflies. And my dad looked over to us and he just said, ‘How can you not see a creator?’ And that’s where this song came from.”

Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.’ (Jeremiah 32:17)

Your goodness is running after me!

Today’s Monday Motivation song comes from a personal and MVNU favorite – Goodness of God!

We sang this one again today in our chapel service, as our voices joined singing, “All my life, you have been faithful. All my life you have been so, SO good! With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the GOODNESS OF GOD!”

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord. for He is good! For his mercy endures forever.” (I Chronicles 16:34)

Author Tim Elmore reminds us that one of the marks of maturity is that a mature person expresses gratitude constantly. So let’s belt this one out, whether we turn it up or sing it out!

We don’t fight alone!

Jon Reddick says Hebrews 12 was a big inspiration for his song, ‘Don’t Fight Alone.’ Reddick cites Hebrews 12:1: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”

Jon shared, “the marathon of faith is easier to endure when we know we have people cheering us on.” This includes our loved ones not just here on earth, but also those who have gone before us, who now call Heaven home!

Kids question: What makes you healthy and strong?

  1. Eating ??? (30 votes)
  2. Drinking ??? (27)

His fingerprints around us!

Today Monday Motivation comes from our friend Dan Bremnes and the song, ‘Fingerprints.’

Psalm 139 reminds us that the fingerprints of God are everywhere, but especially on us, because we are fearfully and wonderfully made – and God knit us together! Sometimes, we only need to look in the mirror to see His fingerprints, and know that we are loved!

He loves “people like us…”

Today’s Monday Motivation song comes from Micah Tyler and Emerson Day, “People Like Us.”

In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says, ““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

So if you’re on the mountain top, in the valley, somewhere in-between, weary or burdened, joyful or energized, remember – God loves people like us!
