Chris Tomlin Game Time Tuesday

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive, and we had a special version of Song Poetry.

We played Chris Tomlin Song Poetry with these lyrics:

There’s a place where mercy reigns and never dies

There’s a place where streams of grace flow deep and wide

Where all the love I’ve ever found

Comes like a flood, comes flooding down

Travis from Mt. Vernon quickly called in and guessed that those lyrics belonged to Chris Tomlin’s song At The Cross (Love Ran Red) to win a pair of tickets to see Chris Tomlin at the Knox County Fair on August 3rd. We’ll be playing Chris Tomlin Song Poetry on the Afternoon Drive and Morning thing all this week and next week for your chance to win a pair of tickets, so make sure to keep listening.

We had a Buzzword stumper with the word French.

Our Word of the Day was histrionic, an adjective meaning theatrical. You can read more on that over here.

We also talked about junk food, in celebration of today being Junk Food Day. You can read more on the holiday over here, and find the list we shared of extreme junk food over here.

Make sure you head over here for all the information on the Knox County Fair and to register your family for all the different prizes we’ll be giving away.

Game Time Tuesday – NYC, Concerts, and the Hillsong Movie

It was Game Time Tuesday on today’s Afternoon Drive!

We started off with song poetry with these lyrics:

And on those days when the sky begins to fall

You’re the blood of my blood

We can get through it all

Herb from Fredericktown quickly called in and guessed that those lyrics belong to NEEDTOBREATHE’s song Brother.

We also had a Buzzword stumper with the word ticket.

I told you about the videos our Big Blue Crew put together from their trip to Louisville, Kentucky for the Nazarene Youth Conference last week. You can check out all of those videos below.

(Click the title of each for that video)

NYC15 Recap – Day 1

NYC15 Recap – Day 2

NYC15 Recap – Day 3

NYC15 – How Will You Shine Forth?

NYC15 MVNU Flash Mob

NYC15 – Wrap Up

I definitely recommend checking out all of those videos!

I also told you about some concerts from some of our favorite artists. You can catch Chris Tomlin in concert at the Ohio State Fair on Monday, August 3rd at 7 pm. Tickets are $23 and you can get them over here. You can also sees Newsboys in Columbus at the Palace Theater on Saturday, December 5th at 6 pm. You can find out more information on that concert here.

Plus, I told you about the Hillsong UNITED movie, Hillsong: Let Hope Rise, that is releasing this fall. The movie hits theaters September 30th, and you can check out their website over here for the trailer, information about the film, and to meet the band.

Our Word of the Day was chicane, a verb that means to use deception, or to trick or cheat. You can read more on that here.

Have a terrific Tuesday evening!

Game Time Tuesday – July 7th

It was Game Time Tuesday on today’s Afternoon Drive!

We played Buzzword and Song Poetry. Our Buzzword was “body” and Evelyn from Mount Vernon quickly called in and won a Ginny Owens CD.

We also played song poetry with these lyrics:

I won’t fear what tomorrow brings

With each morning I’ll rise and sing

My God’s love will lead me through

We didn’t have a Song Poetry winner, but those lyrics belong to Rend Collective’s My Lighthouse. You can check out that song here.

We talked about Chocolate Day and Global Forgiveness Day, which are both today. The best way to celebrate would be to combine the two and send a delicious chocolate treat to someone you need to forgive.

Our Word of the Day was nostrum, a noun meaning a questionable remedy or scheme. You can read more about that here.

We told you our Big Blue Crew will be going on the road THIS Saturday, July 11th for Christmas in July. Miriam Hayslett and Annabelle Harray will be traveling to different collection points throughout Mount Vernon from 10 am – 12 pm to give you live updates on what is happening. Click here to see what items are needed most and the complete list of collection sites.

Joe also shared some recipes for a couple different casseroles he made for our summer staff, and I highly recommend trying both of them. Here they are:

Crock Pot Bread Breakfast Casserole

10 eggs
2.5 cups of milk
8-10 slices of buns or bread, broken into bite-sized pieces
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 cups diced ham (or crumbled sausage or bacon)
FYI – 1/2 cup of green pepper and/or onion is also optional in the recipe

1. Prep the Crock Pot with cooking spray
2. In a bowl, combine the eggs, milk, salt and pepper; blend until mixed together
3. Layer the bottom of the pot with half of the bread, then layer in half (1 cup) of the ham, then half of the cheese
4. Put the rest of the bread in the pot, then layer in the rest of the ham and cheese
5. Pour the egg mixture over everything
6. Put the lid on the Crock Pot; cook on low for a minimum of 4 hours

French Toast Casserole

8 eggs

2.5 cups milk

10 slices of buns or bread, broken into bite-sized pieces

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

handful of additional brown sugar to sprinkle over the top before baking

1. Prep a 9×13 pan with cooking spray

2. Mix the brown sugar and butter in a stove top pan, mixing until blended and syrupy

3. Combine eggs, milk and vanilla in a bowl; whisk until blended

3. Layer the bottom of the pan with the hot brown sugar/butter mix

4. Put the bread across the pan evenly, about 1 1/2-2 inches high

5. Pour the egg mixture over everything; make sure all bread is coated

6. Sprinkle cinnamon over the mixture

7. Cover and put in the fridge overnight

8. Next morning, uncover, sprinkle brown sugar over the top

9. Bake at 450 degrees for 30 minutes

10. Serve with syrup if desired

Have fun trying out these recipes and have a terrific Tuesday evening!

Game Time Tuesday

Today, Joe and I returned to the show after having missed a few days for our WNZR Leadership Team retreat. It was Game Time Tuesday and we played song poetry with these lyrics:

And this is who You are, more constant than the stars

Up in the sky, all these years, all my life

Katie from Mount Vernon called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belong Colton Dixon’s song, Through All Of It.

We talked about the new Hillsong UNITED movie, Hillsong: Let Hope Rise, coming out later this year. The movie, which hits theaters September 30th, follows the rise to popularity of the Australian-based worship band. You can check out the trailer and find more information on the film by clicking here.

We also did a little recap of our WNZR retreat, where we really focused on finding our identity in Christ and letting God build His Kingdom in our hearts, so that we can then go out and build His Kingdom in the world. A great song that really stresses this idea is Build Your Kingdom Here by Rend Collective, and you can check out the video for that over here.

Plus, we shared some information on our WNZR Fireworks Viewing Party that is coming up THIS Friday, July 3rd. You can find out all the details on that event here.

Our word of the day was exacerbate (not to be confused with exasperate). It’s a noun that means to make more bitter or severe, or to make a situation worse.

Have a great week!
