Ice Cream, Tea and Yoda?

Today we celebrated National Tea and National Talk Like Yoda Day!

I’m sure you’re wondering ‘How on earth do I celebrate National Talk Like Yoda Day?’ Well to align yourself with Yoda grammar, just flip around your nouns and verbs when you speak sentences, and pretty soon, you’ll be speaking exactly like this little green humanoid. Speak like Yoda you can!

We also celebrated National Tea Day! Now, celebrating this today is a very simple task. All you need to do, is just enjoy your favorite kind of tea… OR try a brand new kind of tea! If you’re not a tea person, well maybe give tea one last wholehearted attempt at redemption today! If it doesn’t deliver, then maybe coffee or hot chocolate are a good close second for today.

We shared some fun facts about an upcoming On The Road With Big Blue event– The Utica Ice Cream Festival! We’re going to be in the parade, throwing out candy and frisbees, and giving out gift cards all afternoon long! There’s so much to do during the festival, you can click here to check out the parade route, the schedule, and the plethora of activities you can enjoy all weekend!

We played a Who Am I? today, where we give you five clues about a mystery person. See if you can guess who this is:

  1. My birth name is Laurence Tureaud. I was born on May 21, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois.
  2. I served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman and was awarded the title of “Top Trainee of the Cycle” during basic training.
  3. I am best known for the catchphrase “I pity the fool!,” after my role as Clubber Lang in the film Rocky III.
  4. I also gained widespread fame playing B.A. Baracus on the hit 1980’s TV series The A-Team.
  5. I am easily recognized by my Mohawk hairstyle and by wearing large amounts of gold chains and jewelry.

I am… Mr. T! Congratulations to Tammy from Fredericktown for calling in and correctly guessing, winning that $5 gift card to Watts Restaurant in Utica!

Thank you for listening!

Who Knew About These Unique Holidays?!

Today was Who Knew Wednesday and we talked about weird and unique holidays you may not have known existed.

Jess on cakeToday is Star Wars Day (aka May the 4th), so we encouraged you to watch one of the Star Wars films tonight to celebrate. You can also head over here to check out the official Star Wars May the 4th Hub. To celebrate, I thought I’d add a throwback picture from Joe’s birthday where my face on Princess Leia’s body was put on Joe’s cake as part of a WNZR joke.

Tomorrow is Password Day, a holiday created to make sure all of your passwords are secure and up-to-date. You can click herehere for more information on the holiday, and head over here to find a ton of tips on how to make sure you have strong and unique passwords.

This Friday is No Homework Day, a holiday created to give kids a small break from their homework and a chance to relax a little bit as they are hitting the craziness of the end of the school year. Plus, since it’s on a Friday, your kids still have the rest of the weekend to do their assignments.

Next Monday, May 9th, is Lost Sock Memorial Day. This day was created just to mourn the loss of any socks you may have lost over the years, while still celebrating the random leftover socks you still have. You can read more on this holiday over here.

Our trivia question for the day had to do with Lost Sock Memorial Day. We asked how many socks the average person loses each year, and Dallas from Utica called in and correctly guessed that the answer was 15 socks. (The average person actually loses around 1,264 socks during their lifetime! You can read more on that study over here.) Dallas picked up a $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley.

Our Word of the Day was wisenheimer (WYE-zun-hye-mer), a noun meaning a smart aleck or wiseguy. You can read more on that here.

And don’t forget to get your tickets for Mom’s Night Out, happening THIS Saturday, May 7th. Tickets are FREE, but seating is limited, so head over to Gospel Supply Shop in downtown Mount Vernon, or stop by our studios on the second floor of Founders Hall on the campus of MVNU to pick up your tickets. You can find all the information on Mom’s Night Out by clicking here.

Have an awesome Wednesday evening!

Reboot week – Star Wars

Reboot week continues this week with STAR WARS!

As you may know, Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens releases on December 18th. It will pick up the story around 25-30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi.

This new film brings back Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford), plus Chewbacca, C3PO and R2D2.  New characters include Rey (Daisy Ridley), a salvage trader on the planet of Jakku, stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) and X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Issac).  It is also rumored that the role of Sith villain Kylo Ren will be played by Adam Driver.

Lucasfilm also announced (link here) at this month’s Star Wars Celebration that a new Anthology Series will debut in December of 2016 with Rogue One, the story of the rebels who stole the plans to the Empire’s first Death Star.

Today we also talked about the benefits of CHICKEN FEET, namely collagen.  Chicken feet are a delicacy in many countries like China, Vietnam, Korea, Jamaica, Trinidad/Tobago and South Africa.  Using chicken feet as a cooking supplement is much cheaper than buying supplements.

Our word of the day is ANFRACTUOUS, meaning full of winding and intricate turns.

Thanks for listening!

-Joe
