Praises and Prayers on Praise Thursday!

This afternoon, Mike and Abby had a time of praise for both praise Thursday and the week of student prayer! They both shared encouragement about what God has been doing in their lives lately.

Abby shared about how God has made us fearfully and wonderfully, and how special we are to God with Psalm 139:14 which says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” It’s a great reminder of your value to God!

Mike shared Psalm 63:3-4 and talked about the reasons we have to praise God! It says, “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.”

We also had our time of prayer for the schools, teachers, students, and parents in our area, plus our local leaders. You can submit your prayer requests and praises at wnzr.fm!

Today’s Name That Tune was a stumper! Tune in next week for a chance at two $5 gift cards to Watts’ restaurant in Utica!

Chocolate Milk, a Founding Father, and Prayer!

Hi!

Today on the show I talked about how today is National Chocolate Milk Day, World Tourism Day, and how today is a very special day for one of our Founding Fathers.

Did you know that chocolate milk really wasn’t discovered until the late 1600s? I had no idea either. Chocolate milk was used for Medicinal purposes early on, then when Hershey released their chocolate syrup it became more widespread and easy to make throughout the country. I personally love chocolate milk! And it is somewhat healthy for you as well.

Click this link daysoftheyear.com to read more information about National Chocolate Milk Day.

Today is also World Tourism Day. I have never personally traveled outside of the United States, but that is something that I want to do during my lifetime. So, if you’re feeling up to it, go visit different places around the world.

  • I was born on September 27, 1722, in Boston, Massachusetts.
  • I was one of twelve children in my family.
  • I attended Harvard College, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in 1740 and a master’s degree in 1743.
  • I am considered one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. I played a crucial role in the American Revolution and was a prominent figure in the movement for American independence from British rule.
  • I was a key organizer of the Boston Tea Party, which took place on December 16, 1773.
  • I served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives and was involved in drafting the Massachusetts Constitution, which later became a model for the U.S. Constitution.
  • I died on October 2nd, 1803, at the age of 81.

…I am Samuel Adams

Who I Am.

Today let me remind you, and maybe even reinforce, who you are! So many of us struggle with feeling valued and wrestle with our identity, but remember, you are:

1. Created in the image of God. We have literally transformed into his image and are reflections of His glory.

2. A sinner. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. We are sinners in need of help being rescued from ourselves, but…remember…

3. …you are worth redeeming! Christ died for us.

4. You are forgiven. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

5. You are invited to live for so much more. Truth sets us free. You have a story that Christ wants to use.

Name an animal sound you might see in a kid’s book.

Peace and Giving

This afternoon, we talked about ways that we have felt God’s peace or encouraged by him in our everyday lives. It’s the International Day of Peace, so we had a special focus on God’s peace. Mike shared how he felt God’s peace during a difficult exam, and Abby told the story of how God helped her feel at peace in the midst of moving.

Mike also shared about the encouragement he felt from Hebrews 2:18, which says “Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” He mentioned how God has been faithful about temptations in his life.

Abby shared a devotional about God remaining the same through seasons of change! She shared James 1:17, which says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

We also talked to Darrel George, Vice President of Development at MVNU, about the results of the school’s Giving Day! It is great to hear updates about the impact of giving on the students! To get involved in the giving day process, you can visit mvnu.edu/givingday.

The name that tune for today was Then Christ Came by MercyMe! Congrats to Janell for getting the correct song! She wins a $5 gift card to Watts’ restaurant in Utica!

Pacific Ocean, Pepperoni Pizza and Mr. Sinclair

Hi!

Today on the show I talked about how the Pacific Ocean was named and how today is National Pepperoni Pizza Day.

Did you know the Pacific Ocean was named by a European explorer named Ferdinand Magellan? I didn’t know that. The reason he named it Pacific was because the ocean was so calm. Pacific comes from the Latin word for tranquil, Pacificus.

Pepperoni pizza didn’t become widespread across the United States until the 1950s! That is incredible to me. So when you think about it, Pepperoni pizza is fairly new to the United States.

A prayer to release fear.

Remember today…who really has the power?

“Be strong and bold. Have no fear or dread because it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. “

Deuteronomy 31:6

As I face the big stuff right now, Lord, help me remember that the magnitude of the danger does not affect or change your ability to protect me. Because you’re all powerful, there is nothing too big or too small for you. I know that is true, whether I have one foe or a million. When I choose to follow you, I’m on the winning team. Please help me keep my eyes on how great you are, instead of how big the danger or the challenges, so that my faith in you won’t waver or dissolve. And I ask that my sleep will be sweet tonight as I commit myself to your care of me.
