This morning we had the opportunity to attend the United Way of Knox County‘s kickoff breakfast for their 2016 campaign! If you missed the program, “Good Morning Knox County,” head over to mvnu.tv and click the “On Demand” tab.
Their goal this year is to raise $1 million dollars by January of 2017. They are 26% of the way there with $260,549. We talked with the team about the campaign and how you can get involved! Today and every September 12th is dubbed Video Games Day, to honor the sensation that started in 1950 at the Canadian National Exhibit with a computer named Bertie that could play Tic-Tac-Toe.
Eddie asked this trivia question: what are two of the top three selling video games of all time? This article by Forbes magazine answers the question. Congratulations to Spencer from Utica who guessed all three – Tetris (above), Minecraft and Wii Sports. He wins the $5 certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley.

Did you know Apple Pie is NOT an American original? It was first conceived in 1381 in England. The Dutch are also well-known for their apple crumb and apple lattice pies.
Originally, apple pie eaters DID NOT eat the crust. Sugar was very scarce in the 14th century so crusts simply held the pie filling and were called coffins. Yes, like the burial coffins.
Today’s Word of the Day is lattice, which means ‘a structure consisting of strips of wood or metal crossed and fastened together with square or diamond-shaped spaces left between, used typically as a screen or fence or as a support for climbing plants’ (or a pattern that looks like that). It can also mean, in physics, a regular repeated three-dimensional arrangement of atoms, ions, or molecules.
