Game Time Tuesday – 8/4

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive.

We played song poetry with these lyrics:

Could it possibly be
That we simply can’t believe
That this unconditional
Kind of love would be enough

Josiah from Sunbury called in and correctly guessed that those lyrics belonged to MercyMe’s song Flawless.

Joe talked about the Chris Tomlin concert at the Ohio State fair that he and some of our staff got to attend. You can see all the pictures from that by clicking here.

We also told you that our Big Blue Crew will be on the road at August First Friday, the Hartford Fair, and the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival. You can find out all the information on those events over here.

Our word of the day was luminaria, a noun that is a traditional Mexican Christmas lantern. You can read more on that here.

Have a terrific Tuesday evening!

Mystery Monday – Fairs, Food, and Chris Tomlin

Today was the first day almost back to normal for the Afternoon Drive.

We were On The Road at the Knox County Fair all last week and you can see all the pictures and videos from that over here on our Facebook page.

It was also Mystery Monday, and since Joe Rinehart was On The Road with Big Blue and the rest of our crew at the Ohio State Fair in preparation for the Chris Tomlin concert, I decided to have an Ohio State fair themed Mystery Monday question.

I asked what the most popular fair food is at the Ohio State Fair and, after receiving around 30 guesses from corn dogs to saltwater taffy, I finally got a call from Rosana from Butler correctly guessing deep fried buckeyes.

Our Word of the Day was leitmotif, a noun meaning a dominant recurring theme. You can read more on that here.

Have a great week!

Chris Tomlin Game Time Tuesday

Today was Game Time Tuesday on the Afternoon Drive, and we had a special version of Song Poetry.

We played Chris Tomlin Song Poetry with these lyrics:

There’s a place where mercy reigns and never dies

There’s a place where streams of grace flow deep and wide

Where all the love I’ve ever found

Comes like a flood, comes flooding down

Travis from Mt. Vernon quickly called in and guessed that those lyrics belonged to Chris Tomlin’s song At The Cross (Love Ran Red) to win a pair of tickets to see Chris Tomlin at the Knox County Fair on August 3rd. We’ll be playing Chris Tomlin Song Poetry on the Afternoon Drive and Morning thing all this week and next week for your chance to win a pair of tickets, so make sure to keep listening.

We had a Buzzword stumper with the word French.

Our Word of the Day was histrionic, an adjective meaning theatrical. You can read more on that over here.

We also talked about junk food, in celebration of today being Junk Food Day. You can read more on the holiday over here, and find the list we shared of extreme junk food over here.

Mystery Monday – Joe’s Return

Today was Mystery Monday on the Afternoon Drive, and it was also Joe’s long-awaited return!

We played Mystery Box and, after several guesses, Eric from Fredericktown called in and correctly guessed the item was a cherry Air Head.

We recapped our trip to the Utica Community VBS kickoff yesterday. You can find pictures, a recap video, plus the video Joe and I talked about where Wesley and I competed in Slurping for Snakes over here.

Our Word of the Day was hobbyhorse, a stick with a imitation horse’s head on it. You can read more about that here.

Praise Thursday – July 16th

Today was Praise Thursday on the Afternoon Drive!

I shared some devotionals from an awesome ministry called Our Daily Bread. You can check out their website over here for tons of daily devotionals.

The first devotional I shared was titled Ordinary People, and it was all about how God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary work for His Kingdom. You can check out that devotional here and the verse that goes with it over here.

Next, I shared Seeing Beyond Loss, which was about looking to God instead of dwelling on disappointment or sadness. You can read the whole thing here. You can see the verses that go with this over here.

Lastly, I shared one that I think is VERY important to today’s society, and it’s called Web Wisdom. This devotional is all about asking for God’s wisdom and guidance before you comment something rude and condescending, or post something you know you probably shouldn’t. The whole devotional won’t be online until August, but you can find the verses that go with it here.

I told you about SonFest 2015, which will take place on Saturday, September 26th on the campus of MVNU. Tickets are on sale now, and you can find out how to get those and more information on SonFest over here.

Plus, I let you know that Michael W. Smith will be coming to Columbus this fall. He will be at Grove City Church of the Nazarene on Monday, September 28th at 7:00 pm. You can find out all the information on that over here.

Our Word of the Day was celerity, a noun meaning rapidity of motion or action, or swiftness. You can read more on that over here.

Also, don’t forget to check out all the videos our Big Blue Crew put together at the Nazarene Youth Conference in Louisville, Kentucky last week. There are 6 different videos and they are all so cool! You can find them all below: (just click on each title to watch that particular video)

Candy-Crazed Who Knew Wednesday

Today whalloween-candy-by-phanton-kittyas a very sweet (pun intended) Afternoon Drive!

Since it was Who Knew Wednesday and Gummy Worm Day (you can read about that here), I decided that I would combine the two and spend the whole show talking about CANDY! (Plus, Joe’s still out for the rest of the week, so there’s basically no rules, right?)

I first filled you in on some gummy worm fun facts in honor of the holiday. I also tried to tell a gummy-worm inspired joke that I messed up… You can find all those facts and more jokes over here.

I then shared “The Abridged History of Popular Candy in America”, which you can find here.

I also read part of USA Today’s list of the Top 50 Candies of All Time, and you can check out the entire list over here to see where your favorite candies rank.

Then, I shared some Sweet Tooth Candy Trivia that you can find here.

Plus, I shared this list of the most popular candies for different decades from 1950-1980.

I also took the What Candy Are You Quiz, where you can find out what candy best fits your personality. I got Cry Baby’s because I’m “tough, adventurous, love to try new things, and quirky”. You can take the quiz for yourself over here. Leave a comment below letting us know what candy you got!

Our Word of the Day was calumny, a noun that means a misrepresentation intended to harm another’s reputation. You can read more on that over here.

And don’t forget to check out all the videos our Big Blue Crew put together from the Nazarene Youth Conference in Louisville, Kentucky last week! You can watch all six videos over here.

Thanks for listening and have an awesome Wednesday evening!

We can get through it all

Herb from Fredericktown quickly called in and guessed that those lyrics belong to NEEDTOBREATHE’s song Brother.

We also had a Buzzword stumper with the word ticket.
