Walk With Your Work!

Today is Who Knew Wednesday, and it’s also National Social Media Day!

Remember Friendster and MySpace? These two services completely changed the way we communicate with friends, family, and even random strangers when you think about it. The founding of some of the largest social media platforms came much later: Facebook in 2004, Twitter in 2006, Instagram in 2010, and even programs like Facebook Messenger and Snapchat in 2011.

In fact, what you’re reading right now IS social media! Through the internet, we are blessed to have easy access to whatever we may be curious about! So to celebrate, text that old friend from high school that you’ve never had time to reach out to, and tell them “Happy Social Media Day!”

The Knox Chamber of Commerce has announced the Knox Workplace Team Walking Challenge. A perfect opportunity for businesses around the area to get out of the office and get active!

The event runs from September 5th through October 2nd, so you have plenty of time to get your team together and compete for the countywide competition.

Today is the last day of June, and that means July First Friday is just around the corner!

This month is all about “Honoring Our Hometown Heroes” and kicking off July 4th weekend!

The event will begin at 6pm on July 2nd and run through 9pm.

Who am I?

  • I was born in Baltimore on this date in 1985, making this my 36th birthday.
  • I was thrown into the fire at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney at just 15 years old.
  • Despite not earning a medal in those games, I would accumulate 23 golds, the most by one athlete in Olympic history
  • In 2008, I won the most gold medals in a single Olympics with 8, and broke world records in 7 events
  • I am now happily retired and married with three sons

I am…Michael Phelps!

Congratulations to Monica from Mount Vernon for winning this week’s $5 gift card to Everlasting Cup with her correct answer!

I got the devil on my throat
Got blood on my hands
The ones that I love are in danger
I’m a fallen man
But I found me a river
And it washes me clean
I know that I’m drowning for trying
But I’ll never leave

Congratulations to Zach of Lexington for correctly answering that those lyrics were from NEEDTOBREATHE with their song ‘Survival’, he won 2 $5 gift cards to Everlasting Cup!

They make it happen, so we don’t have to!

Thank you to all of our PUBLIC SERVANTS on this day designated by the United Nations to honor them.

To engage in public service is, in general, to work to improve our fundamental human rights, such as access to water, homes, and medical treatment. Those who work with Volunteer Fire Departments and Ambulance Corps are involved in providing services like these, and aiding the security of our homes and ourselves every day. Without them, our cities and towns wouldn’t be nearly as safe, and there’d be no-one to respond when danger calls.

You may be surprised how many people you know that are involved in the public service industry. Do you know a mail carrier? How about a librarian? A trash collector? Did anyone you know serve in the military or work in education? All of these are types of public service, and without them, we wouldn’t live in the world of safety and security we do today.

How can you celebrate Public Service Day??

One way is to head to your local utility providers, city or county agencies, or local fire departments, and send them an email or a social media post, and deliver a hearty thank you to the people who work there and provide you with the services you need. Thank them for restoring power after a nasty storm, or checking to ensure that you have no gas leaks after an earthquake.

Today we also heard a little bit about the Centerburg Heart of Ohio USA Days Festival, starting tomorrow.

When plans don’t work out…

Today my plans got derailed a bit due to an equipment issue that knocked us off the air for about 15 minutes. I picked this devotional for Monday Motivation because it’s a good reminder of this question: how do you respond then your plans don’t work out? Or get postponed?

This passage is called “Imperfect Plans” from Jennifer Schuldt. Read it from Our Daily Bread by clicking here.

Name Something In A Person’s Closet That Only Comes Out On Special Occasions
1. Suit/Tux (35)
2. Dress (26)
3. Jewelry (10)
4. Dress Shoes (6)
5. Shotgun (4)

Congratulations to Craig from Mount Vernon, who guessed correctly and wins the $5 gift certificate to Everlasting Cup.
