Lexie and Joe talk about Walking Tacos today for Who Knew Wednesday!
“Walking Taco” or “Taco-in-a-Bag” aren’t actual tacos, but are Midwest names for the Texas dish called “Frito Pie”.
The “walking frito pie” began in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the 1982 World’s Fair. Petro’s Chili & Chips established a booth at the Fair. The Fair’s theme was “energy,” and the product was originally named “Petroleum Belly.”
The “walking taco” quickly became popular at other fairs in the midwest during the 1980s and 1990s!

Oh, I have days I lose the fight Try my best but just don’t get it right Well I talk a talk that I don’t walk And miss the moments right before my eyes
These lyrics were a stumper and we will bring them back for next week’s game!
So…what inspired Jeremy Camp to write the song ‘Keep Me in the Moment?’ Here’s what he shared last March:
“When I wrote this song, it really was inspired by a conversation with my wife Adrienne. We were talking and realizing that our daughter Bella only has a few more years in the house with us because she’s going to go off to college. It really sent us on a trajectory of being more intentional with her, and of course the whole family and just realizing how fast time goes, and I don’t want to miss out on any moment. I realize so much with our society we live in, we have our faces buried in our phone so much, and we’re not even keeping our eyes open to things around us – that God may be trying to reveal things in our family, in friends in our lives or whatever it may be. We’re so caught up so many times in what’s next or what’s tomorrow or planning for next year and I’m not saying planning is wrong, but we may miss what God has for us today. And for me, I don’t want to miss anything that God has for me. I want to stay in the moment. It’s been a life lesson for us right now and kind of a reset button and it’s been so good, I pray it encourages you guys.”

Today for Praise Thursday we shared devotionals that encourage us to stay in the moment. Alyssa shared a devotional from Hannah Brencher of Proverbs 31 Ministries called “Be Where Your Feet Are.”
Here is a small highlight from this devotional: “I felt like God was with me in that moment, sitting with me in that coffee shop, whispering, “Stop striving. Stop chasing. Be here now. Moment to moment, I will lead you.”
Today’s key verse reminds me of the promise God makes to me: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:8).
I love the picture painted here. I love knowing God wants to teach me which paths to travel on. He won’t just keep an eye on me; He will keep a loving eye on me. He wants good for me, but it begins with me putting my hope in Him.
That is the tough part for me. Sometimes I think it would be easier to put my hope in myself or in my future. I want to skip the investment of hope and keep my eyes fixed on things I think I can control. But I miss out on life when I don’t live in the present moment God has given me. I miss out on so much. He has a daily mission for me, and it matters.
Joe shared a devotional that also hit on the keep me in the moment theme: We had a ‘Keep Me in the Moment” moment at church on Sunday when our pastor referenced Ephesians 5. He’s been talking recently about Atomic Habits, which is a popular book…but he is reminding us we need to have atomic habits concerning our spiritual disciplines. The first atomic habit is to put God first. The second atomic habit is to make sure you’re intentional about relationships. That’s what Paul talks about in Ephesians 5 when he gives us guidelines for Christian living. Nurturing the important relationships means that you have to be present in the lives of your family and your friends. For me it also means being present in the lives of my students. There’s kind of a running joke in the office that if my chair is turned towards my computer, you could walk into my office and say anything and I won’t hear it. And I would say that’s about 98% accurate! So for me, staying in the moment means the chair is turned and making face-to-face connection.
Q: What was the name of Joseph’s youngest brother?
A: Benjamin
Congratulations to Ben of Fredericktown for answering the question correctly and winning a $5 Everlasting Cup gift card!
Lexie gives you the details of National Awesomeness Day!
This special national day gives people the chance to recognize how awesome themselves and the people around them are just, to put it plainly, awesome.
The website for National Awesomeness Day shares this: “The International Day of Awesomeness is a celebration of awesomeness. People are awesome every day, frequently don’t realize it, and their feats of awesomeness are rarely recognized. We aim to fix that, with a special day to both perform and celebrate feats of awesomeness!”
Joe thinks of awesomeness as something that makes him feel like he is “in awe.” Things that make him think of that are Babies, and Niagara Falls!
Lexie shares that sometimes we don’t see how awesome we are and maybe that causes you to feel worthless some days. But This Devotional gives us perspective: we are worth it because Christ died for us! And that is pretty awesome.
Today’s ‘Who Am I?’ Trivia:
– I was born this day in 1983 in Oklahoma
– I auditioned for a record contract when I was 14 but it didn’t work out
