Hallelujah Here Below: Week 5

This week, we wrapped up our devotional called “Hallelujah Here Below” from our friends at Elevation Worship. Today, as we finished, we talked about names. Our names and the name of Jesus.

A name is a powerful thing. Over time our name comes to fully represent everything about us; who we are and where we came from. And it’s the one word that’s uniquely connected to our identity. When someone says our name, we listen.

There’s a lot of meaning in a name, and there’s power in the act of saying a name — especially the name of Jesus. It’s both familiar and sacred. Almighty, yet accessible. Divine and simultaneously human. There’s no other name like it. No name deserving of the praise, adoration, or worship that the name of Jesus deserves.

Today, on the topic of names, we listened to a couple of songs that fit into our theme.
We looked at “In Jesus Name” from Kutless.
This song reminds us that in the name of Jesus, In Jesus’ name our sins are washed away,
In Jesus’ name we are rescued, we are saved. Love has come to make a way for us,
There is freedom for the broken, healing for the hopeless, and that for all of our days, we have a shelter and we can rest in Jesus’ name.

In the Greek, Jesus’ name is best translated as “Savior”, and when we say His name with this meaning His supernatural power shows up. It requires faith to cry out to an invisible God. Every time your lips utter the name, “Jesus,” that’s what you’re doing. You’re saying, in faith, that Jesus has the power to bring you to the other side of your circumstances.

We also listened to the song “Pray” from Sanctus Real today, hitting on the power of just uttering the name of Jesus.
There are days where we need God more than our words can actually say, and to be honest, I’m having one of those days today. In this song it reminds us that God already knows our hearts and our needs. God knows every part of us, so even if it’s just to speak the name of Jesus, we should pray. There is so much power in just uttering the name of Jesus, even when, and especially when we don’t really have any other words for our circumstances.

Whatever your circumstances may be today, remember this:
In Jesus’ name, there is hope.
In Jesus’ name, there is power.
In Jesus’ name, there is Resurrection.
It’s in His name that every need is met and every soul is satisfied.

Our prayer for today is one I’m praying over myself, and I’m praying it over a few of my friends today too. Maybe you need to pray this prayer over yourself today.

“Lord, I come to You speaking Your name today in confidence. Knowing that when I speak your name holds the power to bring me to the other side of my circumstances. I thank you that there is power in even just speaking your name. Your name is almighty and accessible, divine while still being human, and I rest in the fact that there is no other name like Yours. There are no other names deserving of the praise, adoration, or worship that Your name deserves. As I speak Your name today, I do so knowing that there is hope, power, resurrection and satisfaction in it. Bring me to the other side of my circumstances today. Give me strength. Give me rest. Give me hope. Amen.”

Thanks for listening! We’ll see you in a couple weeks for a new Praise Thursday series!

Who Knew Wednesday

This week is time for you to get packing, packing shoeboxes to be more specific! Operation Christmas Child has opened up its many drop-off locations to make it easy for you to drop off your shoeboxes! Collection started on the 12th and will wrap up on Monday, November 19. The clock is ticking, its time to get your box ready!

Here are some of the drop off locations in and around Mount Vernon:

  • Brandon Baptist Church, 13513 Sycamore Road in Mount Vernon
  • Faith Baptist Church, 8764 Martinsburg Road in Mount Vernon

  • Grace Pointe Community Church, 892 E Columbus Road in Utica

  • Johnstown Independent Baptist Church, 7397 Johnstown Alexandria Road in Johnstown

Here are the times these churches are accepting boxes!

What is Operation Christmas Child?

  • This operation is run by an organization called Samaritan’s Purse, a charity inspired by the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke. Here is the Samaritan’s Purse Mission Statement:  Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Here is some more information on this great organization!
  • Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has partnered with local churches around the world to deliver 157 million Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts to children in need in 160 countries. Each one—packed full of fun toys, school supplies, and hygiene items by a family or individual—is sent with prayer that the child who receives it will experience God’s love through their simple gifts.
  • This year, Operation Christmas Child is celebrating 25 years!

How do I participate?

  • Easy! You can pack a shoebox! Here are the steps:
    • 1. Find a Shoebox – Start with an average-size cardboard or plastic shoebox. If you want to wrap it, cover the box and lid separately.
    • 2. Girl or Boy? Decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a boy, and the age category: 2–4, 5–9, or 10–14.
    • 3. Fill with Gifts – Select a medium to large “wow” item such as a soccer ball with a pump or stuffed animal, then fill with other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies.
    • 4. Pray- Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift. You can also include a personal note and photo.
    • 5. Follow Your Box Labels – Donate $9i online and receive a tracking label to Follow Your Box and discover the destination of your shoebox gift.
    • 6. Drop-Off – Take your shoebox gift to a local drop-off location during National Collection Week, November 12–19, 2018.

Don’t have time to pack your box at home? Good news! You can now build your box online, for just $25! Want more information? Click HERE!

This day in history:

  • Apollo 12 was the sixth manned flight in the United States Apollo program and the second to land on the Moon. It was launched on November 14, 1969, from the Kennedy Space Center,
  • This Doesn’t get near as much attention as Apollo 11, the first manned flight to the moon
  • Mission commander Charles “Pete” Conrad and Lunar Module Pilot Alan L. Bean performed just over one day and seven hours of lunar surface activity while Command Module Pilot Richard F. Gordon remained in lunar orbit.

Our Trivia Question for today:

What percent of the universe is dark matter?

Answer: 27%

The rest of the universe is around 68% dark energy, and less than 5% of the universe is made up of what we would consider “normal” matter. This means that roughly 80% of the mass of the universe is made up of material we cannot see.

Congratulation to Megan from Gambier who won a $5 gift card to Troyer’s of Apples Valley for correctly guessing today’s trivia question!

Thanks for checking out our blog! Have a blessed day and thank you for support of the Afternoon Drive!

Artist Newsday, GameTime Tuesday!

Today for ANGTT (Artist Newsday, Game Time Tuesday), we shared some news from our favorite artists, played some games, and had a couple of visits from our friend, Tom Turkey, (Yes, his last name is Turkey).

For news today, we shared the following…

Casting Crown’s “Only Jesus” album drops on Friday! “The theme that continued to come up while working on these new songs was that I am not the point – it is not about me, it is about pointing to Him,” shares Hall. “God is already at work in our lives, and He has a plan that He places us in so that others can know Him.”

There are 12 tracks on this album, featuring the title track, “Only Jesus” and the already popular song, “Home”.

Our friends at NEEDTOBREATHE are releasing a new album, called “Acoustic Live, Volume 1. It’s a 12 track album where all the songs were recorded acoustic and live, hence the name of the album. It includes some acoustic versions of their already popular songs “Brother” and “Testify”.

My friend from Momentum 2018, Riley Clemmons, released Christmas music! Oh yes! It’s her “Silent Night” EP, featuring the Christmas Classics, “Silent Night” and one I can’t wait to hear from Riley, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. It came out a couple weeks ago and I have been listening to it on repeat

Our Song Poetry song lyrics today were…
“My heart’s beating, beating inside my chest
Oh I’m coming alive with joy and destiny
‘Cause You’re restoring me piece by piece ooohhh”

That’s Natalie Grant with “Clean”!
Congrats to Teresa from Howard!

Our Name that Tune song today was “Trust in You” from our girl, Lauren Daigle!
Congrats to our winner, Rebecca, from Butler!

Congratulations to our registrants for the Totally Tasty Tom Turkey Hunt!
