Today being both Praise Thursday and the National Day of Prayer, it was incredible to hear the show lead off today with the song “Hosanna” by Selah. Hosanna (also our Word of the Day) is an expression of adoration, praise or joy, and that’s what today is (was) all about!
I also shared a short devotional from my NIV Bible about prayer and its importance in developing a deep, lavish love for God. Paul shares in Philippians 3:
7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
Yes, Paul considered all of his accomplishments garbage and rubbish compared with the the value of knowing Jesus and becoming more like Him! How do we do this? When we pray, we develop our love for God by asking Him for the desire to make Him first in our hearts. We also ask for the strength and stamina to stand strong in our commitment to Him. Then, we devote time and energy every day to those prayers and strengthening our love for Him. This process is dynamic; always growing and changing and continues for our whole life.
Thanks for listening!
