Spotlight on Jeremy and Natalie!

Today our artists of choice were Natalie Grant and Jeremy Camp.

Camp has been a busy guy. With a new music video coming out May 24 plus the everyday pressures of being a big time artist, he somehow has time to work on a feature biopic film! You can find out more here! https://www.newreleasetoday.com/news_detail.php?newsid=3909

The joy of children and the joy that comes from worship

Today, we continue our devotions from the book “Time with God for Fathers” by Jack Countryman.  Our focus today is on the important role of parenting.

Today our topics include children and worship – and the joy they both bring.

Children are a joy from the Lord!

Matthew 5:13-16 reminds us that we are the salt of the earth.

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Jesus wants you to take your role as a parent seriously. As salt, our behavior is to be distinctly different from those who do not know God.  It must not reflect the same kind of behavior that corrupts a godless culture.

Do your children see that you are burning with the light of heaven? What good works do they see you doing that reflect well on your heavenly father? How does your faith cause you to behave differently from anyone else?

Let your light shine brightly for God and he will bless you beyond what you can imagine!

God fills fathers with joy when they worship Him

John 4:23-24 gives us a clue to what God seeks:

23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

God is looking for men who eagerly worship Him…according to the truth of the scripture and the power of the Holy Spirit.

In order for us to have an intimate relationship with God, it is essential that we come to him with an open heart.  We must be willing to surrender our life and worship Him in truth and in spirit.

Bringing glory to God will refresh our spirit and draw us closer to the heavenly father.

Make worshipping God a part of your character-building walk with him.

The impact that you will have on those you love will fill your heart with a deep sense of satisfaction; and give you a peace that passes all understanding.

Giving Mom a Little Luxury…

Today’s Mystery Monday focused on a Family Feud-style mystery question:

100 married moms were surveyed and asked this question: “What do moms really want for Mother’s Day?”

The top answers: 1- family time; 2- flowers; 3-time alone or peace; 4- dinner; 5- a vacation

Congratulations to Pam from Fredericktown who wins the $5 gift certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley!

We also shared some ideas for the Mother’s Day procrastinator – here are some luxury gift ideas from the New Yorker magazine:

  • a Shiatsu foot massager – the Japanese style of massage; some of these are even heated!
  • linen sheets – there are some inexpensive luxury sheets out there that can make mom’s sleep time special…
  • a sitting ball chair – these are still popular in the office, but you can get some that actually look like they belong there!
  • a lighted vanity mirror – you can spend a few bucks on this, but a good one will last a long time!

Confession and Praise: equally important

Today, we continue our devotions from the book “Time with God for Fathers,” by Jack Countryman.  Our focus is on confession and the equal importance of praise.

CONFESSION OF SIN IS NOT EASY; Proverbs 15:29-33:

29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

30 Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones.

31 Whoever heeds life-giving correction
will be at home among the wise.

32 Those who disregard discipline despise themselves,
but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.

33 Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord,
and humility comes before honor.

A father’s pride and ego is like a wall that separates him from the will of God; and that wall is not easily broken down.

When you believe you are self-sufficient and don’t need to answer to anyone, Satan will have his way in your life. When you become self-absorbed and listen to no one, there is no room for God to come in and change you for his glory.

The Bible clearly says in 1 John 1:9, “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Don’t let anything interfere with your confession. Let go of your ego and pride. God wants to restore you to his family today. His grace is sufficient and nothing can take that away. Praise God!

THE JOY OF PRAISING THE LORD; Psalm 145: 1-4

I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.

Life has a bunch of twists and turns. Sometimes it takes us down unexpected and difficult roads. So, sometimes it can actually feel strange to praise the Lord in those moments.

Still, He seeks your praise in all things; whether they appear good to us or not. Remember that God is good and always gives ample reason to praise him.

God’s overriding purpose for your life is to glorify him and He will use any means to accomplish that. Ask him to open your heart so that you will see life’s circumstances as he does. Psalm 146:2 says, “While I live, I will praise the Lord. I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.”

Despite how you may feel, praise can flow from you like a fountain beginning right now.

Thanks for listening!
