Unsolved Mystery Monday?

Todd hid dog toenail clippers in the Mystery Box today – congratulations to Lorena of Mount Liberty who wins the $5 certificate to Troyer’s of Apple Valley.

There used to be a popular TV show called “Unsolved Mysteries” and when I was a kid, another one called “In Search Of.”  I loved watching those shows and thinking about solving those mysteries…

Today Todd shared some stories of some of the more recent mysteries that are still confusing the experts. The first deals with an unexplained tremor. Read more here from Reader’s Digest:

On November 11, 2018, low-intensity seismic waves were detected around the world, from Africa to Chile to New Zealand to Canada to Hawaii, according to National Geographic. No one knows what caused the waves, which were the type that would normally be observed at the tail end of a significant earthquake. The theories so far: Was it a meteor strike? A submarine volcano eruption? An ancient sea monster rising from the deep? The investigation continues. Here are more of the biggest unsolved mysteries about Planet Earth.

On August 20, a leading Dutch cybersecurity expert, Arjen Kamphuis, checked out of his hotel in Norway, telling friends he was flying back to Amsterdam. He was never seen again. In September, his ID card was pulled from nearby Arctic waters. Yet Kamphuis’s phones had been turned on more than 1,000 miles away in a small northern Norwegian town on August 30. Because Kamphius was an outspoken advocate for online privacy, some speculate he was assassinated. Others believe he’s become a spy.

The challenge of patience…the power of the Holy Spirit.

Today, we continue our devotions from the book “Time with God for Fathers” by Jack Countryman.

Today it’s all about the challenge of patience, and the power of the Holy Spirit to help us!

THE CHALLENGE:

Romans 15: 3-5 starts our plea, “Father, help me to be patient.”

For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”[ 4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.

Patience has been defined as learning to accept difficult situations without giving God a deadline for their removal.

We know we need patience, but we generally shun the process by which we learn. We want it now. We can’t wait. When we do this and decide we can’t wait for God’s direction…and move ahead on our own…the Old Testament has something to remind us.

“Wait on the Lord, be of good courage; and he shall strengthen your heart. Wait I say on the Lord.” That’s from Psalm 27:14.

The bible promises our trials and tribulations will produce patience as you learn to endure, to bear up, persevere and to keep holding on with no worldly help in sight. If you do so, God will grant you all the patience you need.

THE POWER

So where do we turn for daily guidance on how to live, what to do, where to go, whom to see, and how to make decisions? And how to find that patience we need?

John 14: 16-17 gives us a clue…

16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

The scriptures say the only guide worth trusting is the Holy Spirit.

He’s the only one who knows your past completely…from the moment you were conceived to the present…and who knows your future from this day to eternity.

Only he knows God’s plan and purpose for you what is fully good and right for you. The spirit of Truth is the inner compass for your life, pointing you toward what Jesus would be, say, or do in any given moment.

God desires to make his will known to you. He wants you to know what to do and when to do it…and he gives you this knowledge through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Trust the Holy Spirit to be your daily guide.

Global Love Day with the Drive!

What an appropriate day here on the Afternoon Drive to fall on Global Love Day!
Wow. Man, it’s been an absolutely crazy three years as a WNZR staff member. Next fall, I will be part of music ensemble on campus and then I will be attending the Contemporary Music Center in Nashville, Tennessee in spring semester.

Today on the show, we shared some easy (well, in theory) ways to express your love. This is something we so often forget to do, but goes such a long way when we do.
From Psychology Today, we shared 7 ways to express your love.
Some highlights included…
Tell your loved ones how much you love and appreciate them.
Write a letter or send a card to someone you love, and mail it.
and… Practice the art of forgiveness.

“You can write non-songs…” – Hannah Radke

Read the full article from Psychology Today here!

We also love to tie in the spiritual aspect of our topics, and today is the perfect opportunity for that! We shared 14 ways to show love to those you love that are biblically- based! Read the full article from Crosswalk here!
Some highlights…
Pray for them – The Bible is full of people praying for the ones they love. The church prayed for Peter in jail (Acts 12:5). Jesus prayed for the disciples (John 17:6-19). Paul prayed for the Ephesian believers (Ephesians 1:15-23)
Humbly serve them – Jesus set the example (John 13:1-17). He calls us – His followers – to also humbly and graciously serve others (Gal 5:13).
and… Rejoice and mourn with them – We show deep care for others when their hurts and joys are also ours. Don’t hold back. Let the tears and the cheers flow! (1 Corinthians 12:25-26).

Take the time to tell the people you love that you love them.
Not just today, but every day. Life is too short.
Enjoy the time that you have with the people that you love.
Drive around town together with the windows down and the music blasting.
Sing really loud and bad harmonies to your favorite songs like goofballs.
Appreciate every sunset and every clear night sky.
Fly kites in 30+ mile per hour winds.
Fall in love with the eye color of your friends. Their voices. Their smiles.
Support each other. Cheer each other on. Sit front row. Make signs. Be loud.
Drive to an event in Cleveland on a whim with your apartment mates.
Laugh together. Cry together. Forgive. Encourage. Surprise each other.
Worship together.
Do really stupid Photoshop projects simply because you can.
Go to concerts in Columbus with your mom.
Complain about life at 2 in the morning with your roommate.
Have a wall-full of post-it notes with goofy quotes and memories.
You know how much different your life would be if you lived without regrets?
I do.
Don’t let any of it slip by.
Tell he people that you love them that you love them.
Life is too short.

So, to my Birch 201 family: Breah, Emily, Kelsi, Mariah and Veronica. My whole WNZR family. My MVNU worship family: Michaela and all the rest of the team. My Reynoldsburg AHHH!!! Family, and to my MVNU Jazz Band family…
Thank you. I love you.
