Mystery Monday

Today on Mystery Monday we almost had the full Afternoon drive crew with you! Malisa and Lilly took the 4 o’clock hour and the Joe and I took over for Lilly!

If you’re weren’t aware, October is PIZZA MONTH! Oh yes!

Our mystery question for today was:

“If you ordered a pizza with “The Works”, name a topping you would expect on it…”

Survey says?
1.Pepperoni (33)
2. Onions (27)
3. Mushrooms (14)
4. Sausage (10)
5. Olives (6)
6. Anchovies (3)

Congratulation to Sally from Mt. Vernon who correctly guessed the top two answers to our mystery question and won that $5 gift card to Troyer’s of Apple Valley!
Woooo man oh man that was a tough one, but we got a winner! Yes!

And it’s not the Drive until we share some recipes with you, is it?
Check out this link to 50 easy pizza recipes from the Food Network!
Of course, we’re going to tell you our favorites!
Lilly’s pick? Memphis, baby.
Stretch dough into a 15-by-9-inch rectangle. Top with cooked chicken, 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, scallions, pickled jalapeños and 1 cup shredded cheddar. Bake until golden. Here’s what makes it Memphis that the recipe doesn’t tell you…
You gotta add coleslaw. Storebought is fine, but I suggest hommade!
Go Downhome with the Neely’s and try this recipe!
Malisa’s pie of choice? Baked Ziti Pizza!
Watchya do… Press dough into an oiled 15-inch pizza pan. Drizzle with olive oil, then top with 1/2 cup tomato sauce and 2 cups shredded mozzarella. Bake, then garnish with pecorino, dried oregano and olive oil. Top with ziti and more cheese before baking.

Want a breakfast twist? Of course you do! Check out this bacon-egg pizza!
Stretch dough into four 6-inch rounds. Top each with diced raw bacon; bake until crisp. Crack an egg onto each crust and top with olive oil, salt and pepper; bake until the eggs set. Top with baby greens

And a fall take on a comfort classic? Why not?
An easy apple cheddar pizza!
Stretch dough into two thin 9-inch rounds. Brush each with olive oil and season with salt; top with 1 sliced apple, 1 teaspoon fresh thyme and 1 cup shredded cheddar. Bake until golden; top with crumbled bacon and maple syrup.

We’re gonna get bougie real quick. Here’s the recipe for a ham and brie pizza!
Press dough into an oiled 8-inch square pan. Top with 2 ounces sliced ham, 3 ounces sliced brie and 1/2 thinly sliced green apple. Add olive oil, salt and pepper. Bake until golden. You can swap out the ham for prosciutto to make it even more bougie.

Gotta get a pizza in there for my little sister. Megan Kara, this one’s for you.
Pineapple does belong on pizza. So here’s a Hawaiian recipe!
Stretch dough into a 15-inch round. Top with 1/2 cup each tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella and diced pineapple, 2 ounces sliced ham, and red pepper flakes; bake until golden.

Thanks for listening!
– Lilly, Malisa, Joe, Hannah, and Todd too 🙂
The entire Drive really. We appreciate you.

Praise Thursday

Today, we continue sharing devotionals from the book Let’s Pray: Talking to God with the Words of the Bible, by Dr. James Banks, who serves as a pastor at Peace Church in Durham, North Carolina and is a regular writer for Our Daily Bread. Today we are setting up the last chapter of this devotional, “Prayers to Say Thank You.’

Where would you be without Jesus? Take a moment to really think about it. The words of Ephesians 2:12 sum it up well: “without God and without hope.’ Without Jesus, we would be hopelessly, eternally lost.

We can never thank God enough. Praying the thank you prayers of the Bible cultivates gratitude in us and opens our eyes to “the riches of his glorious inheritance” that we read about in Ephesians 1:18. Praying prayers to say thank you is like counting the treasures of everything God has ever done for you, is doing for you…and ever will do for you.

Jesus once met ten lepers at the Samaritan border on the way to Jerusalem in Luke 17. He healed all ten, but only one came back to say thank you. Where were the other nine? Maybe too caught up in the gift to remember The Giver. It’s easy for us to point a finger of blame at them but we can probably admit we’ve joined their party more times than we’d like to admit.

The one who came back and fell at Jesus’ feet” thanking him for what he had done,’ was a Samaritan. Jesus told him, “stand up and go. Your faith has healed you’ (Luke 15:16)
Real gratitude makes us come back to God. We have a choice. We can go our own way, distracted by everything God has given us, or we can come to Jesus and worship him for what he has done. Keep your eyes on the gift. Turn your heart to the giver.

Did you know that coffee is the second most traded commodity on earth?
Yep! There are approximately 25 million farmers in over 50 countries involved in producing coffee. Coffee is second only to oil.
Did you also know Beethoven was kind of a jerk about his coffee?
Unfortunately! When he drank his coffee, he was extremely particular about its preparation. He insisted that each cup he consumed be made with exactly 60 beans.

Want more fun facts? Check out Good Housekeeping and Mental Floss‘s articles filled with some more interesting tidbits on coffee!

Let’s Pray: Prayers for Guidance and Direction

Today, we continue sharing devotionals from the book Let’s Pray: Talking to God with the Words of the Bible, by Dr. James Banks, who serves as a pastor at Peace Church in Durham, North Carolina and is a regular writer for Our Daily Bread. We finished up our chapter from Let’s Pray on Prayers for Guidance and Direction today.

The temptation we often face is to run our own lives and then ask God to bless us. What God wants from us is very different. Oswald Chambers observes, “If we could see the floor of God’s immediate presence, we would find it strewn with the ‘toys’ of God’s children who have said, “This is broken. I can’t play with it anymore, please give me another present.” Only one in a thousand sits down in the midst of it all and says “I will watch my Father mend this”.

David prayed “O Lord, I give my life to you… show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you”. The Bible’s prayers for guidance and direction all have dependence as their starting point. In every instance, God matters more than what is asked, even though the request may be urgent.

Our Shepherd wants us near Him, especially when we don’t know which road to take. These are prayers to help us draw close…

1. Show me the right path

“O Lord, I give my life to you. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”

2. Send your light to guide me
“Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live. There I will go to the altar of God, to God – the source of all my joy. I will praise you with my harp, O God, my God.” (Psalm 43:3-4)

3. Guide my steps by your word
“Your laws are wonderful. No wonder I obey them! The teaching of Your word gives light, so even the simple can understand. I pant with expectation, longing for your commands. Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name. Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. Ransom me from the oppression of evil people; then I can obey your commandments. Look upon me with love, teach me your decrees. Rivers of tears gush from my eyes because people disobey your instructions.” (Psalm 119:129-136)

Prayer starters…
Show me your presence, Lord – From Exodus 33:18
Show me to how to have more faith – From Luke 17:5
What should I do? – From Acts 22:10

Thanks for listening!
– Lilly and Hannah!
