Nominations and New Albums!

Tasha Layton is coming out with a new album! Entitled, “How Far”, Tasha’s album is scheduled for release on May 13th.

Layton co-wrote nine of the project’s 10 tracks, and interestingly enough, How Far also features songwriting contributions from such names as Matthew West, We Are Messengers’ Darren Mulligan, Aaron Shust and Andrew Bergthold (We The Kingdom), among others.

Here is what Tasha had to say about the upcoming release. “The whole album is summed up in the message of the title track, ‘How Far’. It’s about how God continues to reach out and pursue us even when we run from Him. It was God’s love for us that propelled Him to give His life on the cross. Arms stretched open wide—that’s how far He will go.”

Anne Wilson has landed her first Billboard Music Award Nomination for “Top Christian Song” with her breakout hit single “My Jesus,” making her the only female nominated in the category. The 2022 Billboard Music Awards will be held live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 15th at 8pm and air on NBC.

Here is what she had to say about this honor. “I am blown away and forever grateful that I was nominated for a BBMA. I never dreamed this would happen but I’m so thankful for it. Thank you Billboard for supporting my music and believing in me!! All glory to God.”

“My Jesus” was the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Christian Airplay Chart of 2021 for seven weeks total. Her hit made her the first female artist to hit the top of the Billboard Christian Airplay chart with a debut song. Her debut album My Jesus will be available this Friday, April 22nd. She also performed this past Saturday at the Grand Ole Opry.

Who is Alfred Mosher Butts?

Today is National Scrabble Day – one of America’s most loved games, invented by the guy whose name you see above! From DaysoftheYear.com, here’s some history:

Scrabble, one of the most popular board games to exist today, began with the Great Depression of 1929, which left many people out work and starving for food. Alfred Mosher Butts, an out of work architect, decided to create a game that people could enjoy during their free time.

As an avid fan of games himself, he combined the elements of anagrams and the classic crossword puzzle to create a score wording game. This game was called LEXIKO, it would later change its name to Criss Cross Words.

However, many game manufacturers didn’t agree with the idea he had and rejected his game. It wasn’t until he met James Brunot that the concept was reshaped in rules and design that Scrabble was born.

Top 5 five-letter Scrabble Words (that you will actually use)

  1. JAZZY (33 points) – Of, relating to or resembling jazz.

2. JIFFY (21 points) – A bit, a sec, a skosh, two shakes. A short time.

3. JUNKY (21 points) – Worthy of being discarded.

4. QUAKY (21 points) – Shaky, twitchy, shuddersome.

5. ZAPPY (21 points) – Slang for lively, exciting, straight up fun.

Good Friday Worldwide

It’s Easter Week, and for Artist Newsday, we talked about Chris Tomlin who is preparing for his annual event, “Good Friday Worldwide”.

“Good Friday Worldwide” will take place (as you would expect) Friday, April 15th starting at 8:00pm EST. The live stream can be found at facebook.com/christomlin.

“There’s nothing like being there with people and gathering with people. It (Good Friday Nashville) just keeps growing and growing and growing … with what we’re able to do,” Chris said. “But the heart of it is the same. Coming together to remember the cross, to remember this weekend. That’s what Easter is: It’s a remembrance of what Jesus has done for us.”

“Good Friday Nashville is one of the most rewarding things I have ever been a part of. When this event began 5 years ago, I had a dream it might become an annual thing…a tradition for family and friends to come together, to celebrate, to remember,” shared Chris. “As we got closer to that first Good Friday, I felt a need to make this night more than just a concert. My wife, Lauren, and I had felt a calling to shed light on the foster care and adoption crisis in our nation. It was through that and our first Good Friday that our non-profit, For Others, came to be. And so, each year Good Friday Nashville benefits helping children find forever homes across our state. So, when you join us for this powerful night of worship… know that you are a part of making a difference in so many lives.”
