It’s that time for the fall flavors of apples, pumpkin spice…so many colors…I love this time of year. You know, apples make me think of two of my favorite memories from childhood:
going on an apple picking field trip in 1st grade
going to a church gathering where we enjoyed slow-cooked apple butter out of a pot on a chilly Saturday night
I have always wanted to try to make my own apple butter…and now I know how! This is what you need:
Today’s trivia: “In 2018, I surpassed Red Delicious as the apple cultivar with the highest production in the United States. It was the first time in over 50 years that any cultivar was produced more than Red Delicious. What type of apple am I?”
The answer? I am a GALA apple! Congratulations to Ruth from Mount Vernon who wins the $5 gift certificate to Everlasting Cup.

Don was our trivia winner today, correctly guessing that the BibleProject has done 10+ videos in 18 languages! He wins the $5 gift card to Everlasting Cup.

Today’s Monday Motivation includes a reminder about our need for God from Pastor David Platt and Peter Chin’s devotional from Our Daily Bread, called ‘Not Second Rate.” Click here to read it.
In his book, Radical, Platt writes, “In the gospel, God reveals the depth of our need for him. He shows us that there is absolutely nothing we can do to come to him. We can’t manufacture Salvation…we can’t program Salvation…and we can’t produce Salvation. We can’t even initiate it.”
“God has to open our eyes, set us free, overcome our evil and come to us. This is the beauty of the gospel.” He did come to us, in the person of Jesus!
As long as you and I understand Salvation as a “checking off of boxes” to get to God, we will find ourselves in this meaningless sea of world religions that actually condemn the human race by exalting our supposed ability to get to God. On the other hand, when you and I realize that we are dead in sin and deserving of God’s wrath, with no way out on our own, we begin to discover our desperate need for Christ.
Our understanding of who God is (and who we are) dramatically affects our understanding of who Christ is and why we need him.
Name something ‘sloppy’ people spill their drinks all over… 1- Their clothes 2- Themselves 3- Carpet 4- Table 5- Other people
