I starred in Broadway in the 1954 musical, Fanny, playing the title character, for 888 performances.

My most famous role was on TV, playing a mom named Carol, with three daughters and three stepsons. Robert Reed was my co-star, playing my husband, Mike.

I also was a frequent guest on the Hollywood Squares and in 2010, at the age of
76, I competed in Dancing with the Stars.

Every Heartbeat!

Today for Artist Newsday we shared stories about Amy Grant and Unspoken!

Amy Grant will be performing her famous song “Every Heartbeat” on Good Morning America tomorrow morning (2/10). This will be Grant’s first television performance after having open heart surgery last year and this will also be commemorating American Heart Month. To read the full story on this upcoming performance click here and watch the video to “Every Heartbeat” below:

Unspoken has released another great song to radio from their hit album Reason. The song is called “Help Is On The Way” and lead singer Chad Mattson shares the personal ties he has with the message of this new single.

“The title of this song was a phrase that we used in our house often as we were going through a deep season of anxiety about three years ago,” remembers Mattson. “We’ve since come out on the other side, but that hope to know that God had already mapped out our victory before we even entered the struggle was something that gave us the strength to get through.

“David said in Psalm 37 to be patient and wait for the Lord to act,” continues Mattson. “He also said in his older years in the same Psalm that he’s never seen the righteous forsaken. God is on your side. You may not know when, you may not know how, but you can trust that help is on the way.”

Doubts, I’ve had my share of doubts,
But never more than right now,
I’m wondering where are You,
I’m on the edge of fall apart,
But somehow Your promises,
Find my troubled heart

Congratulations to Eliyana of Butler, Ohio for correctly answering that those lyrics were from Leanna Crawford’s song “Truth I’m Standing On” she won TWO $5 Gift Cards to Everlasting Cup!

Listen to win all week!

Today’s Monday Motivation focuses on God’s unfailing love, despite our mess, and on joy.

Todd’s devotional today is called ‘The One Who Sees,’ from author James Banks. Read it by clicking here.

Joe’s devotional focuses on joy:

And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:9-11 ESV

Not to be confused with happiness, joy is not dependent on external circumstances. It’s a Holy Spirit-inspired mystery that defies all reason. Living joyfully is not denying reality. But in the midst of our ‘parched desert’ times, our heavenly Father reaches to lift and sustain us.

PRAYER: Giver of strength, fill me with Your joy in the midst of sorrow like a desert flower, Amen.

Thanks for listening!

Waffles & Winter Clothing!

Joe & Lexie share fun facts and yummy recipes about waffles for Who Knew Wednesday!

Waffle-making made its way to America with Dutch colonists in the 1620s. It was one hundred years later, in Robert Smith’s Court Cookery (1725), that the English language saw the appearance of the word “waffle” for the first time. Waffles were enjoyed sweet, with butter, syrup, or fruit, or savory, with kidney stew.

The word “waffle” is directly derived from the Dutch wafel, meaning a honeycomb cake.

August 24th in National Waffle Day. That date is significant because it is the date of the first patent issued for a waffle iron. On August 24, 1869, the U.S. Patent Office issued a patent to Cornelius Swartwout of Troy, New York, for his design for an “Improvement in Waffle-Irons.”

If reading this made you crave some waffles, check out this link to 90 different waffle recipes !

We also talk to Sharon Metcalfe about a Winter Supply Drive hosted by The Sheppard’s House: A Church of The Nazarene. The Drive is titled “Take What You Need , Leave What You Can”. check out the full conversation HERE!

Here’s Today Trivia Question for Who Knew Wednesday:

Q: What Shoe Brand’s First shoe was inspired by the Waffle?

A: Nike

Congratulations to Troy of Mount Vernon for guessing correctly and winning a $5 Gift Certificate to Everlasting Cup!

It’s Ladies Night!

Today for Artist Newsday we shared two stories, one about Lauren Daigle and Leanna Crawford.

Lauren Daigle is kicking off 2021 with the release of her new single, “Hold On To Me.” It marks her first offering since the release of 2018’s GRAMMY Award winning break out album Look Up Child. “Hold On To Me,” to be released February 26th combines Daigle’s legendary range and powerhouse vocals with the sweeping melody and heartfelt lyrics that convey a deep message of hope.

“The thing I love most about this song is that it lends itself to someone who is feeling incredibly vulnerable, someone who is feeling insecure, or uncertain,” shares Daigle. “There are times we may need a reminder of who we are and that we are worthy of having joy in our lives. In moments where the future may look uncertain and unknown, this is a song of hope that any person can cling to.”

Leanna Crawford has put out a brand new single called “Mean Girls” and she just recently released a new music video to go along with the single. Sharing the message of the song, Crawford explains, “The words we use are powerful. Some words can build people up while other hurtful words can tear down. Sadly, we’ve all experienced the latter and it’s those words that we just can’t seem to get out of heads no matter how old we are. I wrote this song as a prayer for myself but also for you because sometimes we need to be reminded that our worth is so much more than words.”

Motivation for a snow day!

Today’s Monday Motivation comes from the book “3-Minute Devotions”…

#1 Laughter

On your feet now-applaud GOD! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence.
Psalm 100:1-2 MSG

As children of the Creator Himself, we were made to laugh—to experience great joy. Our design didn’t include for us to carry the stress, worry, and heaviness every day. Go ahead! Ask God to give you a really good laugh today.
Prayer: Lord, help me to rediscover laughter. Help me to take every opportunity You bring to see the joy in life and the comedy that it brings to my world every day. Amen.

#2 Christian Living

You’re no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone.
Ephesians 2:19 MSG

What seems impossible on our own becomes a pleasure when we have help. We are never alone in our Christian journey. We are given one another, and we are even in touch with God’s Holy Spirit.
Prayer: O Lord, show me how You want me to be. Open my eyes, my heart, my spirit. Amen.

Name a subject on which people are always giving unwanted advice.
1 – your love life
2 – raising kids
3 – money
4 – weight/health
5 – cooking

Congratulations to Esther from Mount Vernon, who guessed the top two answers and wins the $5 gift card to Everlasting Cup.

Thanks for listening!

Taste testing something new!

I was intrigued earlier this week when I found that Coke was rolling out “Coca-Cola with Coffee.” Lexie and Zoe looked for it over two days, but found it last night at a convenience store. It is interesting – the flavor seems to be heavy on the Coke first, then the coffee kicks in. Here’s a picture:

Here’s the link to the story from USA Today.

and…IT’S NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CAKE DAY…(AND I’M SHOUTING…)

In America, chocolate was consumed primarily as a beverage until the 1830s or 40s. Chocolate cakes, as we think of them today, mostly did not exist then.  According to the Dover (DE) Post, the chocolate cake was born in 1765 when a doctor and a chocolate maker teamed up in an old mill.  They ground up cocoa beans between huge millstones to make a thick syrup. The liquid was poured into molds shaped like cakes, which were meant to be transformed into a beverage.  A popular Philadelphia cookbook author, Eliza Leslie, published the earliest chocolate cake recipe in 1847 in The Lady’s Receipt Book.  Unlike chocolate cakes we know today, this recipe used chopped chocolate.  Other cooks of the time such as Sarah Tyson Rorer and Maria Parloa all made contributions to the development of the chocolate cake and were prolific authors of cookbooks.

The first boxed cake mix was created by a company called O. Duff and Sons in the late 1920s. Betty Crocker released their first dry cake mixes in 1947.

Today’s Who Am I? Who Knew Wednesday question:
– I was born today in 1901 in Coulterville, PA
– I was a boxer and football player before getting into the business of football
– I bought an NFL franchise for $2,500 in 1933
– My team has six Super Bowl rings
– My team has the same colors as my city’s baseball team and hockey team

The answer is Art Rooney – the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers! Congratulations to Richard from Fredericktown, who wins the $5 gift card to Everlasting Cup.
