(Daniel) – Overcoming despair? I found myself in a bout of despair today; the reason might sound silly, but the Browns traded Myles Garrett to the Rams for less than I wanted. That just kinda ruined my day; it’s not the end of the world, but it kinda feels like it is. At the end of the day, football is just a game, so I am trying to remember what really matters, and it’s not football.

The results of the day doesn’t really matter, especially sports. The wind blows, the sun shines, and Jesus is still Lord. So I looked to remember these verses. John 16:33: “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV): “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So if you have something that has you down, look on the bright side and remember that Jesus is Lord and that is what really matters.

(Joe) – Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” How many times have you pondered that verse? That verse hit home Friday night as I heard Matthew West share a story about God opening the door for him to share and pray with his Uber driver at the Phoenix airport recently. He said it was a powerful reminder that his time on this Earth is a limited gift, and he wants to live with purpose every day.

The reality is that we don’t walk this planet forever, so are we treating each day like it could be our last? If God opens a door for us to share His truth, are we taking it? Matthew said he doesn’t want to lose any chance to let people know that they are loved by the one, true king. James 4 reminds us that our life is a mist that appears for a little while…so let’s not waste it.
